I geniunely hope he does well. I don't remember another occasion though that the sacking club has managed to bag a compensation fee 6 months after doing so.

But I'm at a loss as to how Middlesbrough have gone for him.

For 12 months, he was sensational. I did wonder if he'd be in the running for a mid table PL job.

Luton had drawn 4-4 at Newcastle in one of the best games I've ever seen live and then a few days later, go and smash Brighton 4-0 at Kenilworth Road. This was late Jan 2024.

After that point, the club couldn't buy a win and that losing mentality couldn't be shaken off. He should've been sacked after losing 5-1 at Middlesbrough in Nov 2024. The club stood by him though, but he looked a shell of a man.

What has irked me a lot is the lack of preparation going into his two starting seasons. Burnley looked a month ahead of us in Aug 2024. Defensively, Luton were all over the place and it was only really in the spring of 2025 they finally managed to get something together. By that point, it was probably too late.

Throughout his tenure, players were unfit and the amount of injuries disproportionate.

It would be remiss of me also to not mention some apparent off-field turmoil (rumours) which isn't for this place, but lead to significant internal turbulence. Players were also angling for moves away and one individual who decided to not get surgery in order to force a transfer.

The siege mentality is what got us up the leagues. The battlers and characters. We lost this completely last season.

I hope his new backroom team - neither coach also signed today have ever been involved at Luton. I think he needs to learn to lay down the law and not be as nice as previous jobs. He also needs to be financially backed as he wasn't fully so at Luton, as a lot of funds were diverted to the stadium.

I'd expect him to go in for Doughty and maybe Chong and Mengi.
