He was terrible for both sides, you were not cheated out of anything

This. I genuinely could not believe he booked for Hoskins as it was one of the more blatant fouls. It seemed to be a case of go down or shout for a foul and he gave it.

10 men v 11 men. Was never a second yellow at all. Penalty looked a dive and if there was contact it was very soft. That's the thing when you're top of the league though you always get luck.

100% was a yellow, player was off to goal. And Hoskins should have won it for us. If anyone deserved to win it, it was us. Also, overheard someone say Field Mill was rocking. Was that rocking?!?!

First half, not much in it apart from the two goals from set pieces. Quality balls in and deft touches from Green for our goals. The ref was a disgrace though. McGuire seemed to be fouled and he was given a second yellow! Very soft penalty as well, looked like a dive. Once again, the key decisions went against us. We need to learn how to fool the ref for these decisions so that we are playing on a level field. Other teams seem to be good at it whereas I think we are too honest at times.

Wilder seems to think Holmes effort was over the line, one thing for sure the Lino was miles behind play to see it.

Spoke to Tafazoli in the petrol station, lovely chap to be fair. Agreed the ref was terrible and the players hated him.

It was certainly very close. I was right behind the linesmen and it was extremely difficult to tell whether it was over the line. I honestly could not tell either way.

Is there actually just a chance we could have a ref that favours us than just actively goes against us. It's seemingly every game just now, the ref at Home to Yeovil and Portsmouth were like the one today, one way traffic. The penalty and the 2nd yellow were poor, poor decisions, very poor. Nothing against Northampton they can't help a ref being so shit.

I don't want a ref to favour us as they shouldn't favour anyone and should be impartial. But it would be nice to have one that at least gives us a fighting chance

Bloody hell are Mansfield fans blind? Both yellows the player got were deserved, actually about the only thing the ref got right. The rest of his decisions were baffling.

Mansfield is a tremendously horrible place.

Draw was about fair after our experiment in the first half didn't work. If we'd played our normal formation and team we'd have won as Mansfield didn't actually have one decent footballer, they just do a lot of the cheeky/dirty stuff well.

Question for you Staggies, did Holmes' shot go over the line? Looks like it went a fair way over judging by the highlights.

And how did Hoskins not bury that chance just after he came on?!

The officials were dreadful for both teams, though the sending off changed the entire game. This ref sent Maguire off last season too apparently - clearly the lads tenacity (which attracts bookings) is something that this official doesn't like.

So I think that it was a very harsh decision, in a game of few bad challenges; indeed it was thanks to the ref that anything was adjudged as nastiness. And the soft penalty?... Possibly given after the ref had a few minutes to think about it, because the shot off the crossbar bounced just across the line and should have been awarded - I sit not far off from being in line with it; the lino was miles off being in line to judge it.

Cobblers have that cuteness that comes with champions. Attacking wise I think you look great; defensively, mmm not so.

I went down Sutton on the piss with loads of Cobblers. Decent lads. Ref was terrible, no sending off, no pen but oh well!

Lino was so far behind it was embarrassing. Hope you Mansfield fans understand why we all rave about Holmes, he is just a game changer!

Yeah we know we need to improve defensively, last 4 goals conceded have all been from high balls into the box.

Holmes changed the game completely in your favour, that's for sure. As good a player as I've seen at this level this season; despite tending to like to go to ground a little too easy.

We commented that we had Smith at our place last season and he conceded a couple of goals identically to today's. However, they were both great balls in and your defensive marking of them made them such easy goalscoring chances; Green couldn't miss.

Mansfield is a tremendously horrible place.

When your town/city has gone through the constant kickings that this one has, to make it one of the most deprived areas in the country, then come back and we'll discuss it.

We're fully aware that we live in a shithole.

Thinking about it, I reckon that was the worst ref we've had all season.

Funniest moment of the game goes to Danny Alfei for kicking it off for a corner.

I hope not, I had him to score 2 or more. If it did Coral owe me money!!

It definitely went in, perhaps not Frank Lampard vs Germany in, but it snook over the line and everyone at that far end of the IGU, with non-too-biased eyesight knew it too.

Unlucky for Holmes, but we were convinced that the ref had it on his mind and we all suggested that he'd even it out given the opportunity. However, wasn't the refs fault, for all of his ineptitude but the linesman, who probably couldn't judge from his position.

I reckon Smith cost you those goals. If anyone saw, the idiot was more about throwing jibes at the Mansfield fans and couldn't stop looking over at the Ian Greaves stand while sticking his glove up in the first 20 minutes. He reminded me of Richard Brodie and Kevin Ellison for fan interaction. He was very poor to say the least.

Just seen the second yellow on Football League Tonight. If that isn't a yellow then my name is Brenda. Your man has got both his legs wrapped round Marquis'

Not seen it myself from tv myself, poor reffing either way as he shouldn't have played advantage and then sent the player off. If he has to go then you stop play and give the free kick straight away

I found that odd as well. Incidentally Darren Way agrees it's a yellow.

No you don't. If he feels there's an advantage on then the ref is correct to let that unfold and then go back to give the player a second yellow card.

It is unusual especially when it would have been a second caution unless the advantage was an obvious benefit to the attacking side. The official has to weigh up this against the player committing another (third) mandatory cautionable offence or the ball going up the other end and the player scoring during the subsequent play, it is a risky judgement call...

McGuire's was definitely a second yellow, christ knows what he was thinking. Completely cost us a chance of winning the game. Hopefully that's the last we see of him now, a liability.

Did well to hold on in the end as Northampton completely dominated the second half (as they should do in fairness). Smiths fault for both goals, conceded about 3 exactly the same when he played for us. How it was a penalty I don't know, never in a million years.

Good luck to Northampton though, got some good players, that Holmes is the best player I've seen this season, absolutely quality.

We know it's not great. It's one of those things. If it were coming from a York fan, a Shrewsbury or a chester fan I'd get it, but Northampton isn't exactly amazing.

I'd much rather have a good time in a crap place than a crap time in a good place!

It's a shame that Murray persists with McGuire though, the refs have had his name for some time now and he gets little leeway when others do, but it's time that he moves away from this next season, maybe the conference might work better for him.

Seemed to work better with the 442 though the lad from Chesterfield is shocking, hopefully Murray will address this in the summer - he needs to refresh his thinking as his home record and his record against the top sides remain shocking, it'll start to catch up with him if it doesn't change.

Was pleased to get a point out of this and have a real go, I think a few Northampton fans were surprised, but not nearly as much as the stags fans. Shame about the crowd being so low
