so is he in charge for the final then? seems risky
No the Messiah that has led FGR to two thrilling 1 - 0 victories over Dover followed by a wonderful 1 - 1 lucky home draw will still be in charge for the final.

Of course loyal Town fans are firmly behind Hurst like they have been all season, in no way resembling a bunch of psychos on crack in their endless mood swings.

But you have missed the point, our fans are not claiming to have the play offs already won due to our last 3 games, unlike some of yours.

C'mon, you've got a fair few claiming it's in the bag already as well. And nothing wrong with believing in yourselves.

Very good.

Swindon's 14/15 budget, according to Lee Power, was less then 2m.

For Cooper to get them to the league 1 play off final whilst playing great football was a real achievement. He's also won the Trophy at Darlo, the Conf North by a mile with Kettering and had them near the top end of the Conf before leaving, and he also had some great cup runs at Tamworth and Kettering.

His record is a lot more impressive then a lot of managers. And he's a club legend who still loves the club. Which helps.

I call bullshit on the budget, mostly because it's Lee Power saying it. He's overspent everywhere he's been previously and left numerous clubs in poor financial states.

Kettering's budget was above everyone else by more than they won the league by - Ladak was really pumping in the money back then. No idea on the Darlo budget when he won the trophy, but nobody at conference level takes it seriously unless you just happen to find yourself in the latter stages.

He did have a decent record with Tamworth before the Kettering move to be fair (when you take in to account their resources, survival in the league was an achievement most seasons). He manages to get players up for big games and has shown he can handle a budget.

All in all probably a decent appointment for FGR, and a man very likely to get them promoted IMO. The football will not be attractive however, but so long as Vince opens his wallet then it should be successful. Expect to sign big bulky players at both ends of the pitch.

I think he's changed from his Kettering days, even if it wasn't really him implementing the style of play at Swindon.

Certainly in his brief time here he attempted to get us passing it out from the back and playing attacking football, even if it wasn't particularly successful.

Oddly a trio who played for him at Kettering are with us, Kelly Bennett and Jennings and a proper trio of heavies they are :fl:

Except that Marcus Kelly never actually played under Cooper IIRC. Bennet and Jennings did to be fair, but they are more of an average build rather than the slightness of Kelly.

Think of players like Exodus Geohaghan (or however you spell it), they were more typical of Cooper's reign at Kettering.

If true that's unexpected. That said it is very possible that Ladak had a hand in player signings, selection and tactics while Cooper was at Kettering, so maybe he's just a manager who is more willing to take instruction on the playing side from a chairman/DOF?

Absolute legend Frank Gregan says, "I think the appointment of Mark Cooper is brilliant, so much so that he is the first manager that I have taken the trouble to write a congratulatory email to on his appointment despite having had a couple of very good footballing friends take the reins in Nailsworth since my departure.

He’s the perfect fit for the job. Experienced at a higher level, a former player at the club with a wealth of contacts and a father who knows everything there is to know about football."

Champions 2016/17 it is, then.

Not convinced by Cooper myself, seemed like his job at Swindon was just to turn up and pick the team. If his role at Forest Green is the same then he could be successful, but I'd be interested to see how he did with his own recruitment and coaching. I remember when we were linked with him last summer, looks like we made the right decision not appointing him in the end.

There are leagues of difference (literally) between managers that should seriously be considered at conference level and at championship level. It would have been ridiculous for Wedensday to appoint him IMO while he is a good appointment for FGR.
