What's wrong with Nolan? I'm a big fan of his (as a footballer, as a person not so much).
But you've just highlighted it, it's how he is as a person that affects the first part. Utterly complacent, only plays when he's arsed. We've all said a lot about his so-called ability yet here he is in his fourth season at Conference level. There's a reason for that, I think a few are starting to realise this.

Time for him to put up on a consistent basis.

I think he'll play an important role this year. As we saw on Saturday, Stanley and Sparrow are just too old and slow to play together, we need some mobility in the middle of the park. He changed the game when he came on. He's always been the type of player who will thrive in the summer months with the ball at his feet but our style of play will never suit his game in the winter months.

Is that Craig "Will Only Be A Squad Player" Stanley that started?
Haha, it certainly is! I hasten to add I wasn't one of those who made such spurious claims.

He was alright to be fair, kept it simple and all that. But we had Nolan on the bench and we've got Tempest to come back, so he's certainly not nailed on to start every week.

Away to FCUM tomorrow, really wish I was going. Can't quite believe that they built a new stadium with only 500 tickets available for the away fans.

That doesn't sound like a huge away end, thought it is probably larger than many, unless there is an option for them to use other areas of their ground if they play a visiting team with a large following. I think they took something like 750 to their game against Gloucester, in Cheltenham, last Saturday.

We haven't had a problem taking away followings anywhere else in the league. I think because it is their first competitive home game they aren't allowed to fill the ground but even so a 4400 capacity is just way too small.

I'm also off to Gateshead tomorrow, just got back from two days in Nottingham to watch a cricket match that finished the day before I got there *ahem.* So based on that, our game will be postponed! Going for a 1-1 draw with 350 SWA. Based on what I've read so far in this thread, must dig out the binoculars...

Nolan gave us a bit of movement in midfield for the final 20 minutes or so on Saturday, but he just doesn't do enough for me. He doesn't create enough, doesn't score enough, isn't really someone who'll tackle/intercept enough either.

Is that Craig "Will Only Be A Squad Player" Stanley that started?
Did anyone say that?

I think most of us would be happy with 4 points from the next two games so anything other than a defeat today would be great.

Would like to see Mekki, Margetts and Mangan all start though.

Welcome to the forum!
Thanks mate, I was around at the start of the year but can't for the life of me remember my password, pretty much the same username but obviously first time down in the depths of the non league area ;)

Quite like this one thread for all matches thing

Gutted to be missing the FC United of Manchester game tonight. Should be a great occasion and atmosphere. Shame we are playing them in their first competitive match a their new stadium otherwise we might have been given more than 500 tickets.

I couldn't get to EP last Thursday, I heard the queue's were huge and some who queued didn't even get a ticket! Madness for Conf North level.

Anyway, even if Bell-Baggie and Evans are fit, I suspect we will go with the same starting XI than last weekends win over Boston as follows:

GK Hurst
RB Morton
LB Roberts
CB O'Hanlon
CB Thorniley
RM Dyson
LM Ledsham
CM Rule
CM Montrose
STK Odejayi
STK Gonzales

If he learnt to tackle instead of dangling in his foot in it would be a start, the one time he did try to tackle someone he's gets it completely wrong and gets a red card. He did very little last season. Thought he showed plenty of promise when he first arrived but he haven't rated for a while now and along with Power they looked a very poor pair midfielders for us last season. Our midfield improved with Charlee Adams in there.
His goalscoring record doesn't inspire me either. I didn't rate Scott Kerr in his last couple of seasons either but then I suppose I compare them against the likes of Glenn Cockerill, Phil Turner, Bobby Cumming and John Finnigan and maybe I shouldn't dunno.

Gary Johnson was on SSN this morning talking about the league cup ties tonight, very odd.

Tonight will be a chance to see whether our team has any/enough goals in them. Failure to win would be disappointing for everyone and we need home form to keep crowds and income sufficient.

Also, would reaaaaallly like to see us play 2 strikers up front from the start.

I am too travelling to Dover this afternoon. Pretty optimistic for this one, as although we got dominated at the weekend, you couldn't fault the effort and desire of the players to grind out a result. If that character is reminiscent throughout the season, we should stay well clear of relegation.

Snedker also looks like a great find in goal. Feel him & Dawson will be our indispensable players this year.

Envy will get you nowhere sunshine, I'll send you an autograph in the post if you want.

We'll go 4-4-2 when everyone is healthy and it will be Sparrow and Power at CM.

Haha, yes please! Wasn't expecting a bite that quickly but then I thought you'd have to protect your 'reputation'.

Why do all our managers rate Power so highly? I was amazed on Saturday that the match sponsors didn't give him his usual man of the match award. A captain that gets as many yellow and red cards as him is always a worry.

Cheltenham away tonight, and if we play for 90 minutes as we did for 70 on Saturday i'm confident we will get something. We certainly can't afford to give 2 goals away like we did on Saturday again.

I don't wanna be the guy who says "he's not that sort of player", but he's not that sort of player! I'm not saying he's the perfect, all round midfielder, but he's better than Stanley and Sparrow and in our system we need some mobility - otherwise as we saw on Saturday, there's a good chance our midfield will get overrun. If only we did have a modern day John Finnigan!

I don't wanna make a habit of disagreeing with you, but I thought Power had a pretty good game on Saturday. When he's given a free role he can be a very effective midfielder.

Power's another that frustrates me. Not his fault, but he's not got that turn of pace over 2 or 3 yards to get past someone so ends up turning back on himself and insists on taking 5 or 6 touches as opposed to 2 or 3. Slows things down.

As you say, he's much better further forward.

Can't lose tomorrow. Enjoying chipmunx' views that Cook is full of confidence so is going to score tomorrow. We all know how his mind works; when the opposition gets on his back, head goes down, simple as. I think we have the quality to win tomorrow. Judging from the highlights, Barrow look very suspect at the back.

We were pretty lucky to win on Saturday against Dover, but we improved during the match. It looked like a few of players who've stepped up from the Conf North need to get used to the pace of the game. I think that we're being over-estimated a little in general tbh and wouldn't expect more than a mid-table finish with our current team - so I can't imagine getting anything out of this match. The defence will be better though, I think.

Cook was the difference for Barrow on Saturday. I didn't see him while he was at Grimsby obviously but with us he's only ever done well. I don't know if he's more settled in the North perhaps...?
