Bristol City away who have been banging them in pre-season while we've been tragic.

A betting man would have us receiving a twatting as we've still a bunch of players missing. I'd take a 0-0 all day.

- Brady & Holmes injured themselves in friendlies
- Riis & Evans are still out long-term
- Whiteman is still recovering from an operation and hasn't played a minute in pre-season
- Ramsay hasn't started a game in pre-season and is being eased back to fitness
- Sounds like Layton Stewart is going to be gradually phased into senior football
- Bambo Diaby is suspended for the first game
- Guessing any new signings won't be thrown straight into the first XI, especially Cannon who has hamstring trouble (although my optimism for that one wanes by the day)

That leaves us with a pretty bleak team of:

Woodman
Storey, Lindsay, Hughes
Potts, Browne, McCann, Best
Woodburn, Frokjaer
Keane

Cornell, Bauer, Cunningham, Ramsay, Ledson, Mawene, Stewart

Kian Best has looked really promising but throwing a kid in away from home in the first game of the season sounds too much. The alternative would be Hughes or Cunningham who would surely pull a muscle being asked to run that much. I'd try and play a flat back four but i'm not the tactical genius that is Ryan Lowe... Here's hoping we sign a fully fit LWB this week.

Looks like we're going to be without Walton, Luongo, Clarke and maybe Broadhead for our first match. Not a good start...

Southampton on Friday night is fast approaching! They’ve still got a lot of their ‘big’ names although the likes of Livramento, JWP and Lavia have been heavily linked with moves so I’m hoping their heads have been turned. Now is probably the best time to play them, new manager still settling in and not had chance to shake off that losing mentality yet.

Ourselves on the other hand.. it’s been a toxic pre season but with new signings finally coming in there’s more positivity about. Most of them have probably signed too late to have much of an impact on Friday unfortunately. Can see the style of play Xisco is trying to play but it’s not worked very well in pre season, it will need to be better against these.

I’ll plump for a 1-1 in front of 27k

Jack Whatmough in for Liam Lindsay if he's match fit.

Sounds like Ryan Lowe is open to giving Best his debut despite only being 17, he looks up to it physically, and his corners are the best i've seen in ages. I'd imagine his set piece delivery might be what gives him his chance early.

Seems like Holmes might be fit enough to make the squad as well.

Bristol City will be pacey, so imagine it'll just be us sitting deep and just booting it into space, especially with no Whiteman to put his foot on it. Hopefully the rumours of Alex Scott being 'injured' are true.

No signs of any of that losing mentality for Southampton tonight. I’ve never seen a Championship team pass it as well as they did tonight. Their 2 wingers are frightening.

First half we got it massively wrong and sat off them but second half we were a bit better and engaged more.

Overall I’m not too disheartened. That was probably a weaker team than we put out most weeks last season. Once the new signings can start to make an impact things will improve.

Whatmough not fit enough to start.

Same team as my opening post but Ledson instead of Woodburn, shit for shit.

Good luck to Kian Best. 4 more youth players on the bench too.

That's a very good result with the squad we had available.

Only caught the last 30 minutes on a stream and we looked pretty decent, although quite leggy towards the end, a fair bit of cramp and tired passes. The first half was supposedly tragic.

Seems like Kian Best had a really good debut, and from what I saw Frokajer and Keane added some quality and calmness on the ball. Nice goal by Keane, composure. Holmes looked busy when he came on too, looks like he could do a job almost anywhere on the pitch. Browne & McCann did really well in that midfield battle towards the end too, and Storey defended well.

Good point to build on when we get players back and finish our transfer business.

Very good first half .

Took it easy 2nd and they improved but still had some chances.

QPR have a lot of work to do .

Gave us too much room.

Watford really good or QPR very bad? Or a little of column A and a little of column B?

QPR have had a stinking summer window, Ainsworth is massively out of his depth. Wonder how long before he’s back at Wycombe given how things went for them today

We played well but they made it easy particularly first half with no pressing and defending poorly .

Aye, feel sorry for Ainsworth. I'd have had him here at one point.

Jesus Christ, what a win. Completely different to what we’re used to. That first half I thought we were gonna get battered, but we had more shots on target in the end and think we deserved it, just. Both teams missed some big chances. Possession means nothing.

Very tough match against stoke on Saturday. Buzzing to be back, should be a sell out.

They're a team that I expect to be in the play offs. They've made some good signings.

Sunday showed us that we really lack depth. When Harness and Ladapo came on, we could hardly keep the ball. Fingers crossed for some reinforcements.

Doesn't sound like we've got any more bodies back for Sunderland on Saturday. Handed out three pro debuts and another start to Kian Best in last night's penalty loss to Salford.

Duane Holmes might start in place of the useless Ledson, hopefully, but I imagine that would be the only change unless he plays Whatmough over Lindsay, which would be harsh imo. No update on Calvin Ramsay's, Ben Whiteman's or Robbie Brady's fitness.

They tore us a new one at the end of last season due to a tactical shit show from Ryan Lowe, let's hope he's learned a lesson or two.

Woodman
Storey, Lindsay, Hughes
McCann
Potts, Browne, Holmes, Best
Frokjaer
Keane

Be a tough game tomorrow. Stoke are a very decent side from the little I know. Think they’ll be top ten this season minimum.

Watched on ifollow today. Wish I hadn’t. Really concerning and maybe as bad as I’ve seen in the last 15/20 years. I know it’s early days for Xisco but we’ve gone backwards.

But you have our grateful thanks for being so dire. Nice to see Regan Slater playing so well, £50K from the Blades if you didn't know.

Was actually a very good performance really and game overall but both missed good chances.

Some very crisp and fluid passing too although both teams were rather prone to taking too many risks at the back .

Plymouth defended well and posed some threat .

I think Sheff Wednesday may break the record as the worst Championship team in history
Agreed. I can only assume he’s extremely bitter.

Steady, it’s been 2 games. It is fucking terrible, no one can deny that but it’s a new manager still working out his squad. We’re probably about 6 weeks behind where we need to be after starting late due to play offs then the the whole Moore situation.

Naturally we were more on the back foot but our back four, particularly Scarr, Gibson and Earley were fantastic.

You had a couple big chances particularly Bayo going through in the last few mins, but so did we. Randell should have scored in the second half.

About as good and competitive 0-0 as you’ll see. Game opened up last 20 mins and I thought either team could win it.

First visit to Vicarage Road and I liked it. Not a soulless bowl of a stadium and easy to get to.
