Got to expect at least a play off place, even if we don't go up. What would happen if we didn't make it to the PO's, who knows?

Surprised so many Derby fans seem overjoyed with the possibility of Clement who has never managed a club before, seems a huge risk to me given they had a manager who's been there and done it.

I don't know what to expect from a manager who has never managed before, but the board have made it perfectly clear they want to be a Premier League team this time next year.

Overjoyed is a strong choice of word to use. I don't get that feeling from our message boards. I think he's an interesting choice with very good potential, a little different than appointing someone out of the Championship managerial recycling bin and that makes it more exciting for me.

We all saw how our "been there done that" manager performed when his head had been turned. McClaren's performance over the past few months had been absolutely terrible. I can understand why our board didn't want him taking us forward, we want someone fully committed to this football club.

Of course it's a risk. Wasn't it a risk appointing Steve McClaren after his last spell at this level? All managerial appointments can go tits up no matter how experienced they are/aren't.

As far as my expectations go, what LC says above is spot on for me. Play Offs at least, finishing outside them would be seen as under performing just like this season just gone. There's some decent players here and Clement will have money to spend.

Yeah, Daily Mail reporting 1 million a year now, 20k a week.

Same as what SuperDerbySuperRams has said on the Derby Mad board. And given his track record, I trust everything he says.

Certainly going to be a world away from the Spanish elite duopoly. First opponent of the new season - Steve Evans? Welcome (back) to England!

Clement told the objective is automatic promotion. Wow.

Surely that is your objective for next season? Doesn't mean he'll be sacked if he doesn't achieve it.

I was expecting top six as the objective again. Not the pressure of top two for someone whose never managed before.

I would have thought with the squad and budget you guys have, you should be better placed than anyone to get automatic promotion.

Bar a ridiculous collapse and very unlucky play off final in the last two years, you would have done it.

They've now set the bar for the dim-witted lot who will be boo'ing us off the pitch when we draw to MK Dons at home on the opening day.

There's plenty of people within the club who know the ups and downs of football, we aren't going to sack a manager we've just appointed on a 3 year deal because we haven't got top 2 in his first year.

Bit of unwanted pressure maybe but having worked at Chelsea, PSG and Madrid where the expectations are to win every game you play I'm sure he'll be alright.

Let's see what this summer brings.

I'm very excited by the appointment. He's been at some of the very best clubs in the world in terms of player quality with one of the world's best current managers, he knows his trade and his contacts will be unreal.
He also sounds confident, if you watch his interview you can tell he isn't afraid and looking forward to the work.

He reminds me of Karanka, a person who hasn't really managed before coming from a top coach, albeit with a different style. As for the top 2 target, what's stopping him? We have the midfield/attack of a top 2 quality with what seems to be coming in transfer wise, if he can sort our defence then we'll be right up there.

Very interesting appointment, but one I generally feel happy about. He obviously knows the expectation and is confident in his ability. I just hope our lot give him some time and they don't start turning on him when we're not top come the end of September.
