MK Dons v Wigan - Return of the Griggle

Haven't seen a thread for this game, if I've missed it feel free to delete.
Looking forward to this game, what a way to start the season and see if the mass changes at MK1 will pay off from the word go. I still think we are a couple of players short, but our first team looks like it could be as good as any in the league and optimism around the fanbase is as high as it's been since we got promoted.
Not sure on what our starting 11 will be either, our midfield is bristling with talent, and Robbie hasn't exactly stuck to a single formation all summer. I'd guess at a 3-5-2 though.
Looking forward to the return of Will Grigg, he'll inevitable score though and do the celebration that he favoured while with us, dubbed 'the Griggle' by our fans.

I think this will be a good 'litmus test' for us to see where we are compared to one of the better teams on paper in the league. Don't think our squad is too far off the quality of what Wigan have, especially as we still have 1 or 2 more to come in, including the fabled #9 which according to our manager will be "worth the wait".

I'd be worried if I was an MK Dons fan if you lost this and you're target is promotion. We're historically poor in the first month or two of the season especially away from home. We've got a new manager still trying to implement his style of play and players still getting to know each other. MK have a good team on paper and should be up there, but like I've said before your keeper is very dodgy and will cost you points. How many points you lose before you drop him could be the difference at the end of the season. Expect us to line up something like this.

Personally I think you're as biased against Nicholls as we are about players like Maynard. He's clearly a much different player since he left you and most Dons fans rate him from what we've seen of him and he's certainly gotten stronger throughout pre-season.

He scored 5 against Chorley's under 21's so I'd say he's unstoppable.

Didn't see much of Nicholls at Wigan, but for us in the handful of games he played last season he wasn't bad, certainly not raised any concerns as yet. Time will tell.

Agard – Tshibola – Ariyibi
Seager

Near enough our best 11, aside from maybe Aneke but he's out injured until end-September.

I still think Wigan might have a bit too much for us regardless of previous seasons and our current squad. Looking at your lineup, a lot of quality there for this level.

It will be a very competitive game.

We've only won 5 opening games in the past 31 seasons. Believe we have the worst opening day record of all 92 football league sides. Just 2 opening day wins in the last 15 years. 2009,2013.

One of the toughest games of the season, so all things considered a draw would be decent. Still got lots of key players only just returning from long term injuries too.

Didn't think we played badly enough to actually deserve to lose. Lewington and Ariyibi disappointed me but the rest seemed fairly decent. It proves we need a strong number 9, to come in soon apparently, another tricky winger and another Left Back.
All in all a good performance against one of the best sides in the league.
