Oh, Ameobi came on. Imagine that - a blue plaque "On the 9th of January 2016, former England Under 21 international Shola Ameobi made a 19-minute substitute appearance here."

As we play in the world's oldest international stadium we've had a lot of famous players and teams over the years.

I graced the Sin Siro several times. My final outing in the late 90's.

David Beckham and Alan Shearer
Team wise Newcastle, Aston Villa and Sunderland of the mid/late 90s hence Shearer, Beckham was on loan at PNE when he came to the bank.

England under 19's played a couple of matches at Aggborough with a team that featured Wayne Rooney, Glen Johnson, Stewart Downing amongst a few others in 2002. Other than that, we had Jan Molby as manager for two spells and Mike Marsh played for us for a while

Team wise, we had West Ham United come for a FA Cup 5th Round match in 1994 that we lost 1-0, having knocked out Preston at Aggborough and Birmingham at St Andrews.

I'll add George Best, Bobby Moore and Denis Law to that.

Also, we've had all the famous refs too. Jack Taylors first game after refereeing the 1974 World Cup Final was Aldershot V Huddersfield in the old fourth division to name one, another 'first' was Mark Halsey's first game back after recovering from cancer was ours against someone I can't remember.

Recently for Truro City, Barry Hayles. During the late 70s when Truro's current ground opened, Glenn Hoddle or Steve Perryman

When the great John Charles passed away it was remarked that he played at Crabble (against the old Dover FC) during his time at Hereford.

He'll do

As Les mentioned earlier, Bill Shankly. Wasn't just there for a day out like the rest of all the other mentions here too, so I think we've got this one.

The Busby Babes, George Best, Dalglish, Rensenbrink, Charlton, Pirlo to name a few.
Why tf did Pirlo go to Wrexham?

George Best.

For us I guess it's Jamie Vardy.

Glad hbk's posted a slew of threads tonight. Capped off a wonderful Saturday.

I remember the Halsey game, it was a game under Dillon and he gave us a penalty with 5 minutes to go when we drawing, but I think Morgan missed it.

More recently would be when we played United. Berbatov, Vidic and Owen all started among others, and a certain Paul Pogba came on in the second half.

Under 21 match against Wales in late 90s. Gattuso played as well. Pirlo used to be a striker in those days and he missed 2 penalties in the match, both saved by Anthony Williams. John Oster was sent off and Zambrotta was as well I think.

Surely not the same Anthony Williams who couldn't catch a cold when he played for us?

Completely forgot it before but your post reminded me that Sir Alex Ferguson was United manager when we played them and was in the away dugout!

We've already established that we've won, by virtue of having a stadium that holds internationals. Before being tinpotters we used to be a reasonable league team with regular games against top level opposition, and we've played in Europe. So lots of greats have played on the hallowed turf.
