A Champions league winning Forest side visited here and brought the Trophy with them. They signed a keeper from us. I wasn't even thought of then though, so won't claim to have been there.

Big Sam was here a while back when we played West Ham U21s in pre-season and we've hosted Jamie Vardy. That prick scored a hattrick against us up there. On a Tuesday night as well, selfish bastard.

Other than that, I have no clue whatsoever. I'm sure there's more.

As David Beckham is possibly the most famous man that has ever lived (him or Hitler), anyone that's hosted him wins. Barrow faced a strong Man Utd XI in the 90s, but not sure Beckham was one of them.
Joey Barton is one of the most famous to come as a punter (his cousin or mate was in the opposition line-up), and Paul Scholes appeared at nearby Holker Old Boys this summer after someone bumped into him and asked him to play in a charity game (he was on the Barrow AFC side, so possibly the most famous player ever to wear the Barrow shirt...)

Hang on, I forgot someone else. Elton John, memorable because it was the same day he came out as gay. I expect if he'd thought more carefully about it and studied Watford's fixture list, he would have done it when they were due to play somewhere a bit more cosmopolitan, but hey, this was Yorkshire and it was the 70s. The Town fans did their best to show their liberal credentials and even helped him celebrate the news with a jolly sing-a-long. He described the experience a few years ago on Parkinson, "It was The Shay at Halifax" he began. Oh dear. :emb:

So if anyone can find evidence that Hitler played at their ground, they'd win this thread?

Aldershot fans, Mark Halsey played for us. Ha, beat that!

In my lifetime I can remember the following:
Kenny Dalglish (opened a stand)
Wayne Rooney (for Everton reserves against us)
Steven Gerrard (Recording his part in an advert)
Bruce Grobbelar (against us for Liverpool reserves)
Paul Scholes (played and scores for Man Utd reserves against Liverpool reserves in 1995)
Neville Southall (had a complete meltdown which involved throwing his gloves on the floor and storming off the pitch whilst playing against us for Doncaster)
Raheem Sterling (watched us turn FGR over a couple of years ago)

Had a good chat with raheem that night, the game that should of been postponed if I'm thinking of the right match

We had Suarez here couple of years back. One of the top 5 in the world right now. No idea about back in the day, We beat West Ham on 69 and they had World Cup winners Bobby Moore, Martin Peters and Sir Geoff Hurst. Also Trever Brooking and Harry Redknapp turned out for the Hammers.

Played Chelsea in the 80s aswell and they had Hazard. Micky Hazard that is.

I remember a Man Utd XI playing a testimonial type game here in about 87. The only player I remember of that line-up was Paul McGrath. I'm sure Alty Pieman could add a few more.

That's the one. If it wasn't for the TV cameras there I think it may have been abandoned!

I used to stand with Marshall Lancaster, better known as DC Chris Skelton from Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes, on the Star Lane End at Macc. Until he got a new West Brom supporting Mrs and have barely seen him since!!

We used to host a relatively strong Chelsea team in annual psf's back in the day. They fielded plenty of top (ish) players.

I still remember when they played Chris Sutton against us. He couldn't understand why we were singing about hating him... good times.

Many years ago we played Barnet and our manager was Terry Paine. He lined up against Jimmy Greaves in the twilight of their amazing careers. A very special moment when they shook hands on the halfway line both being part of the 1966 England World cup winning squad.

Well John Aldridge is the highest ever goalscorer from the UK and Ireland and he played for us..

In our 1999 FA Cup run we came up against (and beat) a very strong West Ham with Di Canio, Joe Cole, Lampard and Rio Ferdinand then Newcastle with Alan Shearer. The following season also in the FA Cup, Gerrard, Owen, Carragher, Fowler. Those were the days when we used to beat almost anyone in the cup competitions!
