Joey Barton was far from being a shit manager although I'll concede thus far he has not set the football management world alight.

But Denzel you being an Exeter supporter indicates that you live outside the north west area where local clubs have greater knowledge concerning local managers.
Directors and fans watch local tv and radio and are therefore in a better position to make judgement calls than the rest of us outside that niche area.

It is the same down in the West Country where the same faces appear on the management roundabout - Gary Johnson being one example where he has managed Yeovil, Bristol City, Cheltenham & Torquay.
I do live in the South West but I know that Sheffield isnt in the North West :)

I'd say that he is a sh1t manager as with Fl££twood's resources they should be in the automatic promotion places

Wage wise they'd still be behind Hull, Charlton, Peterborough, Ipswich, Sunderland, Oxford and maybe even Blackpool now.

That Garry Hill interview after we’d beaten Woking 3-1 wasn’t as bad as it sounds, he was saying that he was frustrated that they had lost 3-1 and that we had had some really good teams in the previous few years that had beaten them and that he said Woking had missed a trick losing to us that day because he felt it was the worst team of ours that he had come up against.

Actually just listened to it again and he does come across as a proper bitter twat.

Here's here calling Matt Rhead a dog as he walked past him at 1:12.

He's not right though on that really, our teams got better every season in the Conference. Had that 2014/15 side had another striker of Connell/Hearn/Amond quality then we'd have challenged Barnet and Bristol Rovers for the title.

Yeah I actually think that was our best ever team down there, better than the one we actually came up with. I think it was with about 4 or 5 games to go we’d gotten back to within 1 point of Barnet and then it was the 2-2 draw with Gateshead that did us in after destroying them all game but they had yet another keeper performing heroics against us that day. That meant Barnet had a 3 point cushion and way better goal difference meaning we would need them to slip up twice for us to catch them and the games after that seemed to go really flat.
Even the next game at Alfreton with 2500 of us there didn’t have that same atmosphere for me as we’d watched the Barnet game in a pub in Alfreton before it and Barnet had won 1-0 so we all knew then that we wouldn’t be catching them.

I think at the time and just after we went up, I thought that that 14/15 side was the best however after a few seasons reflection I genuinely think it was the signing of Nolan in the second half of the season that got us over the line after the form of Amond got us through the start of the season. The 14/15 squad had Magnay though I guess, who was probably one of our best players down there in terms of individual seasons. It's tight, but I reckon I'd go 15/16...just.

I thought the GTFC side of the 12-13 season was the best and if they had beat the Stags at Christmas instead of the game being postponed surely they would have pissed the league.

Joking aside that team up until early New Year was really good and would’ve had a good chance if it had stayed together but then Scott Neillson fucking off was a huge blow and Ross Hannah having to go back to Bradford for a month and then coming back a worse player screwed it all up for us.

Was that season we had Nathan Pond as well? Him going back was a massive blow, despite having Miller and Pearson. That was a good squad. Maybe a little light in CM though.

Really good we had the sprinklers then.
To be fair to us even in the rearranged game we were the better team by far for an hour until you brought Matt Rhead on and he headed in a corner with virtually his first touch.

Other year when we played Swindon at home Wellens was getting some hammer from a few behind the away dugout and he came into the crowd, Stewards swamped him and he made put he needed the toilet. c***

Kevin Betsy is one of those players who always terrorised us. I used wince when I saw we had that Wycombe team with him, Nathan Tyson and Tommy Mooney in.
Yep I remember playing them on a Friday night 05/06 when we lost 1-0 and the first half Betsy ran the show nobody could get near him and we really should’ve been 3 or 4 down by half time.
Second half we absolutely murdered them though and it was one of those ridiculous games where we hit the post, 2 or 3 shots cleared off the line and an away keeper playing the game of his life.

Yeah, Betsy was magic around then. We played Wycombe live on Sky around Xmas that season and both right midfielders - Betsy and Shane Tudor - ran the show. Ended 4-2 to the Chairboys, but could have been 8-8. Such a shame that Mark Philo was killed shortly afterwards as Wycombe never really recovered from it. Pretty certain they would otherwise have won the division. I forget what happened to Orient and your mob come the end of the season #balloonparty

Craig Armstrong took out Michael Reddy (sacrificing himself in the process) in the Playoff Final leading to our promotion and Grimsby's tailspin into the Conference.

What great days they were.

I left 2 minutes from the end of the Northampton game so as far as I’m aware we won promotion didn’t we? :bl:

Meanwhile this was happening at Oxford v Orient:

I remember that game, think Mooney scored the winner. But I seem to remember Sergio Torres was the one running the show. Super little player at that level.

Sergio Torres is a legend at Crawley. Played loads of games for us. Scored the 93rd minute winner v Derby in the fa cup (we were non league) and just an all round good egg. His mum and dad used to travel on the fan' s coach to games when they were over from Argentina.

He was a guest of the club at the Leeds game and only hung his boots up last year and is now at Eastbourne as the assistant manager.

Edit. Just realised Dean Cox is also at Eastbourne.

Maybe Torres as well then but Betsy definitely terrorised us for the whole of that first half too.
Lost count of how many ridiculous chances we had in the second half too, I knew if we got 1 we would go on and win but their goal seemed to have a forcefield around it stopping anything going in!
