Bolton used to have sponsored injury breaks, where if a player was receiving treatment, the big screen would show adverts for workplace accident lawyers.
To be honest, I think we had something similar, though it wasn't as contemptible as injury lawyers. Whenever a player was down injured, an animation would come up on the scoreboard... something like "Injured? Hurt? Call Medicare on blah blah blah".

Mansfield Town's "One Call girls" made it into this week's Private Eye.

I don't get why they have to wait for their sell-on money, it's not like Bournemouth aren't loaded and can just front it to them.

That reminds me of when we were at West Ham in the FA Cup when Brian Laws was manager, every time someone went down injured the big screens came on with 'this calls for magic sponge' then a big animation of a smiling sponge waving his arms about.
I've just googled it but can't find any pictures but i'm sure you can use your imagination!

Not what you want to see when you've a potential career-ending leg break.

Although after the way we played yesterday I'm surprised we shifted another 138, I went to get mine after 79 minutes and I was happy to get out of there!

Pictured below: a football club who have recently appeared from nowhere but are now rocketing up the leagues, based in a tiny ground towards the north of a growing city famous for being a bit different, and Salford City FC:

Any relation to Red Bull Leipzig?

None that I'm aware of, although with football in Leipzig being as confusing as it is I wouldn't be surprised if they turned out to be some nursery team. They're incredibly international for their level in terms of player recruitment, although all the "Red Bull" franchise clubs have an effective hierarchy anyway, in which the best players within the franchise eventually wind up at RB Leipzig.

Yeah I looked it up and came to a similar conclusion... lotta football clubs in Leipzig, defunct, pheonix and miscellaneous. Didn't realise RB Leipzig were a totally new entity, I'd assumed they'd swallowed an existing club like they did in Salzburg.

Who was it they were eyeing up in England to take over?

Sadly they still did. They bought out SSV Markranstädt and took their place in the fifth tier. Toxic stuff. If I ever wanted to die from a heart attack I think I'd do it some other way than drinking a Red Bull.

Not sure who they tried taking over in England? Be grim if they tried to... Both us and Germany have restrictions against private companies sticking their names into football clubs, most recent example being Evo Stik South tinpotters Shaw Lane Aquaforce FC becoming Shaw Lane AFC this season. Similarly, RB Leipzig are officially called RasenBallsport Leipzig of course, though Red Bull regalia is still absolutely everywhere. Summat uniquely sinister about hollow branding, especially in places as tribal as football.

I think they make exceptions here for former works teams such as Vauxhall Motors. Seems to be more lax in Wales though where they used to have Total Network Solutions, and may or may not still have BAE Systems.

Maybe we should set up a poll, if people nominate things they think are the most tinpot thing on the thread we'll find out which really is the most tinpot thing ever to happen.

My thoughts are
  • My own opening post about Celtic Nation facing a team managed by their owner
  • That one with the manager getting around a stadium ban by watching the match from the attic of a nearby house
  • Mansfield

AFC Bournemouth last night...

"
Scores of fans were left queuing outside Vitality Stadium while the match continued and many took to social media to vent their frustrations at the "chaos".

Sam Davis tweeted: "Kids trudging away from DC with their Dads in tears. Their first #afcb game they could get tickets too. Not upset for me, upset for the rest."

Amy Etherton added on Twitter midway through the first half: "My daughter was so excited to go to the match, but only got in the ground 10 minutes ago. Pretty poor effort from a PL club."

Long-standing supporter Gayle Hope said: "It's embarrassing. Premier League club on the pitch, Wessex League off it."

Many supporters stuck in the queues eventually gave up and went home.

Clearly the definition of "tinpot" has morphed over the years.

In the mists of time it required an action or club to be cheap or worthless, expanded to include inferior or unimportant.

I think it now needs to be defined with reference to

The comments on that story take the tinpottery to another level. The past few years of misery have obviously taken their toll on this guy:

I have given up on AFCBOURNEMOUTH.
After over 50 years .
Thanks Eddie, but your time is up.
Harry Redknapp must step in to keep this club in the Premiere.
He has the experience and respect from every player in football.
The primodonas at the club, are taking us and the money for a ride.
Eddie is out of his depth.
He has lost the dressing room.

I believe it was Leeds United
