Why is it mad to believe you have the best squad in the league?

I’ll let you know in May. Just don’t get too cocky, that’s all.

Seems like you’re completely missing the point being made here. No one is being cocky, or ‘Willy waving’ as you seem to be alluding to.

It’s simply being pointed out that it’s very difficult to argue against a team having the strongest squad in the league when they’ve got TEN (yes 10) first team players out, and still currently top of the league… If another team in this league could cope with that I’d love to know who!?

That’s not us saying ‘wErE gUnNa PiSs ThIs TiNpOt LeAgUe’ or that it’s guaranteed we’re even going to go on and win promotion… just an observation being made about the depth of the squad

Looks at Chesterfields opponents during their injury crisis.

Yeah you can.

Clearly you have a pretty good squad. But you can't really make that judgement until the season is over. At present you have one player scoring 50% of your goals. How would you be doing if Tshimanga got injured? could Payne or Tyson step up?

Most clubs in this league lose 10 first team players and they’d struggle to pick up points in the league below never mind this one… so talking about the quality of opposition is meaningless (Just pointing out that we have played yourselves away, Daggers away and Boreham Wood during this crisis and remained unbeaten)

Ah okay we’re playing that game are we?… How would you do if Mullin got injured? Relegation battle perhaps?

Back to the original question posed anyway, if we’ve not got the best squad, in your opinion who has?

Slow your roll I've not claimed our squad is the best in the league. It clearly isn't.

Also Mullin was just out for 3 games and we scored 7 goals.

Amd in answer to your question, I dont know who has currently got the best squad in the league. It might be you but I dont think anyone can say with any authority.

The reason people have picked up on that statement is that you Chesterfield fans are always like this. When you are doing well you are the best team in the league. Some of us have been here a bit (lot) longer and are a bit more circumspect with what we say.

in fairness looking at fixtures chesterfield should win the next 3 games, before a more tricky run.

i remember the days of altrincham at home “shudders”. it’s a tough league this year, anyone top of it should have a right to be confident of progress.

Solihull and Maidenhead away are both difficult games. If they come out of those with six points they’ve done very well.

It’s clear people are still struggling with this concept…

We are not claiming to be the best team in the league, nor are we saying we have the best starting XI or anything like that as arguments can be made for a number of teams in this league. We’re literally stating that we think we have the strongest squad in the league because with everyone fit we could field 2 completely separate XI’s that would be capable of mounting a title / play off challenge. Personally I don’t think anyone else in the league has a squad depth capable of that

That’s all, nothing more, nothing less..

I remember that Adam as you were due to play Grimsby a couple of days after that Alfreton game who were top of the league at the time whilst you were doing shit but then some silly sausage accidentally left the sprinklers on and it got called off.
Then by the time it was replayed Mansfield had spunked a load of cash at it and were winning every week whilst we’d started to hit the buffers and we lost 2-0.
Although despite that we actually hammered you for an hour and should’ve been 3 or 4 up before you brought the fat lad on to score with his first touch.

We didn’t actually spend big that january at all, it was the game against lpool in the fa cup (when suarez hand balled it in) that gave the players belief, the 2-0 over you was in the middle of a 12 game winning run in the league which either set or equalled a conference record.

about the waterlogging of the pitch. yeah, that was certainly on purpose  , no idea how we got away with that

Folk just don’t like seeing people confident in their own team’s ability. Don’t worry chaps, it doesn’t make your squads shite, it doesn’t mean we’ll win the league, it doesn’t mean we have the best starting XI. But your eyes are painted on if you can’t see our strength in depth. And no, Payne or Tyson wouldn’t be able to step up, but then if half our team wasn’t on the treatment table (I know, doesn’t get mentioned often) we’d usually have Asante/Rowe/Denton in his place who are all proven scorers at this level. Payne and Tyson are fifth and sixth choice strikers.

Face it dweebs, we’ve won the Strength in Depth cup and you can’t do anything but gaze in awe as yet another CFC player limps off the pitch after 8 minutes played only for somebody to come on and perform just as well in their place. What’s this? We’ve just signed a centre back on a free who hasn’t played for the last 5 months and he’s slotted in like a dream. And now what? Ah we’ve just signed Solihull’s best centre half cos why not.

I for one am not struggling with your concept. As a statement of fact, it is purely objective, and you are fully entitled to your opinion.
Don’t be surprised if supporters of inferior teams consider that you are cocky smug bastards.

We can’t even jump on our injury crisis excuse anymore because we’ve just told everyone we’ve got the best squad in the league that can cope with injuries… Fuck

I think Chesterfield have the strongest squad in the league, and claim my £10.00

I'd argue that we do, presuming the team is competently managed. And that's not including the ones we've got out on loan at other clubs in this division, two of whom are above us in the table
