i certainly think you’re on the ‘optimist’ end of the Notts fan spectrum Jacob, but do you think it’s a bit troubling that Torquay, Aldershot and now Weymouth have put what their fans seem to say are very good/season best performances against us, with us not beating 2 of them, when other performances and results suggest at least 2 of them are dogshit?

In short, are we easy to play against?
I think we are, still look a bit light in midfield, wish Reeves was still here and defensively we've consistently made errors.
We really should be winning tomorrow but we've only kept one clean sheet so far so teams are getting chances to take points off us.

Doesn’t take much to be on the optimist end with us to be honest.

I’d say not really, it kind of suits us more than games where teams sit back and try and kill the game, I think. We’re easy to play against us in a way because I don’t think we put any real emphasis on stopping the opposition and are quite happy for games to be open and end-to-end. I think we’ll win most that end up like that because we have the best front three in the division.

The only concerning sign so far for me was the second half against Torquay when we struggled to create chances against a massed defence. I’m surprised more teams aren’t trying that against us yet. Aldershot and Weymouth games were entertaining and the opposition played well but we were miles ahead on chances created and expected goals in both. We’ll win the vast majority of games that pan out like that.

We’re pretty much what I expected so far. If Roberts stays fit, we’ll go close to winning the league. If any of that front three get injured for any length of time (or sold in January) then we’ll be play-offs again. Still wouldn’t be entirely against a more imposing central midfielder, but we’ve not even seen Vincent yet I guess.
I think Mitchell is going to make a real difference to us, Chesterfield fans don't seem to rate him but he's a handful with pace and think if he gets the minutes and some service he could score loads if he's any kind of finisher.

Either a comfortable Wrexham 2-0 or a spirited 2-2 I think. Will be the first real test we’ve come up against and I think our fans are in for a shock. Should be a good crowd though.
Yeah it seems whenever we have a proper bumper crowd we go and play shit, gutted I can’t go as I’m working and the result of this will determine whether I have a shit night at work or not.

He looks very exciting, our recruitment of attacking players under Football Radar has been amazing. Need them to pluck a midfielder with some muscle from somewhere.

I think we’ve looked okay defensively. Couple of silly errors but if we can keep it around one goal a game conceded then we’re sound because we’ll score plenty. Central midfield is the one big area of concern for me.

Lacklustre performance against Dover and a reported sickness bug in the squad. 4-0 to us.

Yeah midfield is the tricky bit, I can’t imagine Burchnall had JOB in his starting line up and it does say a bit about our recruitment in that area that he’s currently in there.

Putting my positive pants on, every promoted Notts team I’ve known has spluttered (if you can even call it that) a bit at the start and I think this team might be the same.

A mile better than our last two starts, anyway. Well, same as last season points wise, but we’d already lost to Dover and Maidenhead by this point and half the team had Covid.

In defence of our midfielders, it is a bloody difficult job we’re asking. The boys ahead of them don’t do much tracking back, and four of the back five have licence to get forward. Then they’ve got to make loads of passes as well.

I do have a nagging thought about whether we’d be more consistent if we just put together a hard working midfield and let the defenders focus on defending and assume we’d have enough to win most games with those forwards. But then you always feel like you’ve seen a good game of football with us.

We do look better than this time last year but we really could do with a Neal Bishop* kind of midfielder to break it up and do the simple passes well.

It’s going to be the most Grimsby thing ever if it happens but the weather looks appalling all day today. We have a new pitch and drainage system but it’s supposed to bin it down for 10 hours today

I don’t know what Payne has done to make you think that but it’s all a big, horrible, cruel trick
He's just a big strong lad, and knows how to bustle. I've seen a couple times he seems to have quite a deft touch for a big man as well, a couple times vs Wealdstone when he come on he's steered a nothing ball to him round the corner for Tshimanga. He just maybe looks a better foil for a striker like Tshimanga than Rowe, Rowe tends to drift allover the place and drop quite deep. It's worth a try anyway because Rowe has done nothing so far, dropping him might put a fire under his arse if nothing else

If the Grimsby game gets called off for Blundell Park’s first sell out in living memory it’s going straight in the tinpot thread

Aldershot (and Boreham Wood, apparently )
We'll probably find a way to fuck this up
Well, it would be a big surprise to us all here. We have a faint hope, hearing that your midfield was not the best, we get outmuscled easily. Unless he has a plan B (unlikely) , Searle will play 5-3-2 , with, unbelievably, no width. We have no wingers in the club. Relying on the full -backs to get forward is a no-go when we are pressed. Loanee striker Corrie Andrews can do the job in the unlikely event he gets some service.
Plenty of effort, but shot of confidence, 2-0 Southend, always hopeful, but dreading it’s not worse.

We’ve had a few sell outs however our last Tuesday night sell out in the league came way back in 2004

Something like 300 seats left in the home end. We could give ourselves another 300 seats by taking some of the Osmand but I don’t think we’ll do that, especially if Wrexham are bringing over 500.

It’s a very us thing to put in a stinker in front of a big crowd so watch the floaters stream for the bars once Mullin gets his second on 34 minutes.
That's a class home crowd, turning up to get a glimpse of Wrexham.

Danny Rowe has been very poor. I was hoping he'd grab a couple against Dover to get him rolling but he just seemed a bit flat. I wonder whether he likes being the main man at a club (Fylde style) and isn't enjoying the Tshimanga show.

Reaction on here will be incredible if they beat us.
Surely that’s allowed though? Allegedly, players like Mullin are allegedly being paid the same as what 4 of ours combined are, allegedly. This game is like David and Goliath, where Goliath also has a huge penis.

At £150 quid a week per player, Mullin must be more expensive than your entire squad. And backroom staff.

Money? Players down here get paid!

We have always given our team salt and fish as a salary, there is no money in Grimsby or Cleethorpes, we trade for what we want or need.
