I don’t get how you can be a critic of him considering he hasn’t even kicked a ball for us yet?

He’s literally 25 years old, majority of his clubs have been loan spells when he was 20, 21, 22 etc when he’s only just learning the mens professional game aswell, it’s not as if he’s some 30+ year old journeyman that’s had permanent club after club, year in year out!!

Last couple of years it seems he’s kicked on and found a bit of consistency under Sarll at Yeovil and their fans aren’t happy about Quigley being let go for a reason. Sarll has a good reputation for developing young players so that bodes well in my eyes. I wouldn’t read into much that’s wrote on this board in regards opinions on players anyway, remember in the summer when Jacob told us Tshimanga only scores penalties? Exactly
I'm trying to reserve judgement, but I am underwhelmed as fuck. Smacks of a 'just want to sign someone, anyone' signing after being turned away for his main targets. Hope I'm wrong but his record does not bode well, and he's mentioned a lot in the 'shit strikers' thread for a reason. A different option off the bench... maybe.. but you don't want to be paying a fee for an option off the bench in this league. Tom Denton is back soon/now, he can give you that. Do we even need a target man though? We look best when we get it down and play it. And a 2 and half year deal? Fucking hell. I'm happy to be proved wrong and hope he scores an hatful, but I'm unconvinced this is a good one. I just don't get it

Hes not as bad as some of our comments might make out, it's just a really odd signing for a team going for promotion, particularly given the length of the contract.

I'm sure he's been brought in to do one very specific job and I'm sure he will do it adequately.

Denton may not even play for us again, I know he’s back in training but this happened last time and he broke down and got injured again after about a week of training. Denton’s lack of mobility for a target man makes him extremely one dimensional aswell. He can literally head it, that is it. He can’t run, even his bringing it down on the chest and playing someone in with his feet leaves a lot to be desired. Quigley strikes me as a far more mobile target man that isn’t as one dimensional as Denton, so doesn’t just limit his strengths to having the ball launched up to him like you have to with Denton… from what I can gather Quigley has a bit of pace too.

Also regarding his record, he had 12 league goals last year for Yeovil despite being the ‘second striker’ as such, providing the knock downs and foil for Rhys Murphy who was their goal scorer. As a target man, that record ain’t bad in my books. Those type of players are tough to judge on goal scoring stats alone… yes of course goals are massively important to any striker, but if his off the ball work makes us a better team and help players around him perform even better, then I’ll take it!!

I agree 2 and half years is maybe a bit excessive, but at the same time you’ve got a southern based player who probably wants assurances of commitment from the club buying him that he isn’t going to have to upsticks from the south and move up north if it’s only going to be a short term thing!

On your second point it is literally that. He isn’t being brought in to be the main man, or even the second main man in terms of hitting the back of the net… that’s what Tshimanga and Asante are there to do. I can see Quigley playing in those horrid physical away games on difficult pitches where the style has to be mixed up. He’s also going to provide us with a further option off the bench in games where we’re chasing a goal, or plan A isn’t working. As you say, the only potential negative of this deal is the length of the contract if he does flop, but there’s always that risk I guess.

You got dangerously close to criticizing Lord Tom Of Denton there, but I'll let it slide this once...

With Quigley it wasn't even so much his goal scoring record I don't like the look of, but his CV in general. He's been on the books at Maidstone, Bromley and Dagenham and they got rid, without mentioning his myriad loans which never went any further. How are we paying money for someone who Maidstone didn't think was good enough. His whole career profile just smacks 'avoid' for a team with league aspirations. I'd just sooner we develop the Asante/Tshimanga partnership as much as we can, 2 players with ability who could pick defences apart if they get on the same wavelength. I guess we need cover once Payne is fired into the nearest bonfire, and once Quigley pulls the shirt on I'll get behind him, but yeah... not feeling this one!

Genuinely interested - what’s happened with your owners that has caused such a reaction with the fanbase?
He's a one man band with no actual money, he bought the club with loans. He hasn't put anything into the club, we never hear from him unless it's negative. I wouldn't buy a second hand car from him, put it that way.

No proper strikers in our starting XI today, Yussuf and Reid on the bench. Knowles, Wakefield and Lo-Everton probably as a front 3 so pace but no big physical presence.

Probably not a terrible line-up. Our defence can handle physical presence all day but pace can get in behind them.

Call me crazy but there's no reason to think we couldn't win our next 3

14 points off the play offs with 2 games in hand on some, 1 on most. I'll dare to believe
Nay, Nay and thrice Nay!

Let's just look at the back half of the season one game at a time and just make sure we are in this division for sure next year and be bona fide contenders for the title next season.

Anything more than that is a bonus!

Just you wait for those knock downs and flick on’s into the path of Kabby!!
Oh that bald fella is Tom Denton?! I assumed you'd got an ironic stripper in for some morale boost or something. Denton definitely had hair last time I noticed him, which was ages ago admittedly!

We’ve started very well against Bromley so I’m fully expecting us to go a goal down before half-time. How is Chris Bush still playing in this league? Perhaps the most mediocre player I’ve known at this level.

Im not at the game but it's grim listening. Sounds like we've actually gone backwards in our extended break.

Played well until we scored. Don't think Bromley got in our half except for set pieces. We've not done a lot since we went one up but still didn't look like conceding until some poor defensive work where we should have cleared it but didn't and they scored.

They are playing for the point and winding our fans up again so fully expect them to go on and win.

We are bad. Really bad.

Won't even reach the playoffs the way it's going.

Mullin has died, RIP.

1-0 at HT, dominating the game but it's the classic case of we should be 2 or 3 up and will that come back to bite us in the arse?

I'm here. It's possibly the worst I've seen us this season.
