I'm going cos I've got my lad and I'm trying to force him to like football and I've got tickets for Stockport too, purely because I agreed to it a few weeks ago when we weren't in turmoil. Really cba though. Buzzing to watch us twat it up to Quigley tomorrow and then watch Stockport bang 4 past us on Tuesday.

Spireite Samaritan Helpline required

I see Danny Webb has just promised a ‘return to free-flowing football’ in his presser. So we’ll see how that works out.
Yeah Wild is ripe for picking. Rowe, Hurst, Burchnall...whichever respective club out of those three sacks off their manager first will probably come knocking and get their man. Only thing Halifax can do to stop it would be to go up and even then the lure of a proper club will probably bring him back down here.

Before Stocky hijacked the thread last night with yet more unfounded claims about another club’s manager (although his allegation that Rowe was hoofball paled into insignificance with what, er, subsequently emerged just days later), I asked what Grimsby were good/bad at. I’m hoping to assess whether we will win. Can you help out SoC?

We're good at having a lot of possession and creating chances. We're very bad at actually converting any of those chances. Think we're something like 3rd in the league for chances created, but only 12th in goals scored.

We're also quite good at being solid at the back, and then making one defensive fuck-up per game which the other team inevitably scores from. Sometimes we get away with it (Wealdstone last week), most other times we don't (losing 1-0 at Halifax after giving away a daft penalty, forgetting how to defend set pieces and losing 1-0 to late goals from them against you lot and Chesterfield).

If Webb's management style is like his playing style Chesterfield will be all-out, hell for leather batshit mental.

I remember him coming on as sub for us at Port Vale and genuinely scaring the living daylights out of not only the other players but most of the crowd. A demented look in his eyes as he ran round the pitch like a shit roadrunner.

The only question relating to our game is how many will Andrew Dallas score.

Ive heard he demands intensity from the lads - it’s a shame they didn’t show it at Eastleigh where we got away with murder.

Ah sorry mate I missed that. We're pretty tidy on the ball I'd say, we like to get it down and zip it around pretty fast but it has the potential to fall flat on its face when the opposition is all up in our faces. I wasn't at our match vs you at Blundell Park earlier in the season but the only team I've seen pass better than us has been Solihull probably, which came as a surprise as I thought they were gonna try and kick us off the park. How good we are on the day usually relies on how McAtee and Taylor link up. They've got a great understanding and they're both better than most attacking players in the division and we create a lot either directly through them or through them bringing the wide players in. However, that brings me onto what we're bad at...the wide players have generally been inconsistent and wasteful, Erico Sousa being the prime example of that. He'll absolutely rinse your full back and then comically fluff a cross or a shot. We also don't have a natural number 9 in the squad and the amount of chances we miss in the box or the amount of times the balls rolls/flashes across the box with nobody there is infuriating. At the back we're tough to break down but have a silly error or two in us every single match. As you can imagine Waterfall and Pearson clean up in the air, but are a bit dodgy on the deck which is almost certainly what Burchnall will be looking to exploit. We've struggled against the more aggressive teams and generally performed better against the teams that try to play a bit. however that lack of a fox in the box means we haven't taken anywhere near enough points from matches against the sides above us despite matching or outplaying pretty much all of them.

A return to free-flowing football suggests we have been free-flowing at points throughout the season which we have not been. We have been efficient, I would say. Very German.

I'm hoping Ponticelli's workrate will pay dividends next to Palmer, he is usually handicapped by us using him as the focal point and booting the ball at him, with Palmer doing this much more effectively these next few games are a huge chance for Jordan to show what he can do.

Think it will be low scoring so hopefully our defence can concentrate for the whole 90, going for 0-1 Wrexham, Ponti to get it.

He's one of two names that have made their way into the rumour mill this lunchtime.

We might well be asking the question, at least.

I can understand why but I'm sure we'll set the compensation fee at a price you'll not fancy.

This was pretty much your game at ours last month! You created a lot second half but couldn't take them.
And our goal was a well taken one but probably should have been cleared.

What do you reckon? I've been given a figure from the same person that told me we'd asked the question. Just want to see how far apart they are

I have no idea on the numbers involved. But there's a few factors to consider.

1. He's probably one of if not the best manager in the league. Considering where he's had us punching since his arrival and this season stepping up further.

2. Your a promotion competitor. Works the same as a player approach in that situation. Why would we shut ourselves down and aid yourselves.

3. He has 18 months left on a current deal. So we are not under pressure like we might be if he was out of contract in the summer.

4. His next move will be to a football league club.

Thing is we've just spent January telling players they are not leaving and rejecting bids. So why would we now sell the manager

How often does a club get a say in whether the managers stays? Manager usually says I'm off and compo is sorted, usually pretty low compared to what you'd pay for a player too.

Grimsby’s away form:

LLLLL

One guess how this is going…
The two oldest brothers, combined age 304, should surely call this one a draw. A nice 0-0 like Blundell Park should have been but for our full-back and keeper's little combined feck-up. A nil-nil will send Paul Hurst all chipper (relatively) in the post-match interview, like he was early season.

I don't think the current club get to decide how much compo is paid either do they? Or have I got that wrong? I'd take Wild for sure, and he'd probably go back and pinch Warburton, Spence and one of two others wouldn't he. It's only little Halifax at the end of the day isn't it

Wouldn't you prefer Woodman? Doing a cracking job at Bromley. ;)

Why wouldn't the club that owns his contract get to decide on the compo?

I'm only bantering. In terms of compo though, I always thought that got decided at a small tribunal or something. I don't think you can demand an amount, like selling a player.

Tribunals are only for players that are out of contract are they not? I assume players and managers that are in contract the owner of that contract says what amount they want. That's certainly the way I believe it is anyway.

Nah, pretty sure the ‘buying’ club can just pay up the rest of their contract and they’re off (or come to an agreement). Why it’s ‘compensation’ rather than a ‘transfer fee’.

You can't count all those years playing friendlies against welsh sheep farmers XIs and Welsh Cup fixtures as part of the Brotherhood history - it's Football League only, Otherwise we'd have all sorts of rif-raf claiming Brotherhood status. Sorry it's got to be 1921 for Wrexham...

I think the English Brothers should decide. So is it

1864 followed by years of friendlies, Welsh Cup, FA Cup as a non-league team, getting kicked out of that after 1 year for rioting, and some non-league combination thing, or;

1921 - when joining proper football civilisation in the august 3rd Division North

And how do we know that in the early years some of Wrexham's games actually were to proper football rules - were they all even 11 a side, or was it some primitive whole village melee thing...

The Combination was a perfectly acceptable alternative. We had clearly been denied access to the Football League because it was a deeply racist organisation.

If you are going to be a purist about this then the only actual Brotherhood team in this league are Notts County, not you Johnny come latelys
