Im got an admission to make I made the cardinal sin of allowing myself to be carried away by our decent pre season.

Terrible start. One shot on target in two games. Toothless. Done by a screamer from Brackley today but we arent gonna win many football matches if you cant find the net.

I stand by the fact we have some decent footballers.
Problem being Billy Heath has now idea how to manage them at all.
Struggling to see why he should remain in post

Got to say Heath was the reason I couldn't put you any higher on the predictions thread. Some good players signed albeit a few of them in the final year/s of their careers or trying to recover from bad injuries. But he just seems to have been found out at this level, hasn't worked since he took Halifax through the playoffs.

Brackley was never going to be a good rearrangement for you, a very solid side who won't be intimidated by the rough and tumble who have a bit of quality as well. Next weekend will be intriguing, I'd imagine we'll be very rusty after a 10 day isolation period, and under Armstrong we've struggled against teams who have big strikers and get balls in the box but our recent record against you has been fairly strong.

Gateshead rarely managed attendances higher than that when they were a step 1 club pushing for the playoffs.
They seemed to be averaging c.950 in their first season back at this level after the change in ownership. Which is why it stood out as poor. Not that I particularly blame them, watching football at that bloody running track is awful, even worse for away fans now as they get stuck in the open in the corner cause the roof of the old away stand blew off. Surely staying full time will be difficult if they fall into consistent attendances of c.750.

Its poor for Curzon because they are offering the best deals in the league by a mile, I gave a tenner yesterday but can pay just £5.

althoigh it’s tough yesterday Man City we’re playing same time and are just 6 tram stops or 15 minute drive away
That is a good deal. Problem is if they're offering cheap deals people are taking it up and attendances are going down then matchday income will become a pittance.

Never understood the change of manager either. When we played them last year they looked a shadow of the sides John Flanagan built for them.

I remember having a discussion a few seasons ago on our troubled managers with who'll leave first?
Billy Heath or Tommy Wright.....I was thinking at the time down at your place Heath screaming from the touchline. Why can't Wright be like Heath. Ours just stood with his arms folded! Fuckin useless...
Remember the conversation well.
Depressing to think Heath is still in post.

Concerning time for the club.
Yesterdays poor attendance of 348 might be a sign of whats to come. People have found other things to do with their Saturday afternoons. After all what is there to attract them back to Alfreton really with the current state of things. A new manager and a fresh approach might be in the best interest of the club. Sadly I doubt our chairman will see that....

Yeah safe to say Brackley and Kevin Wilkin has Billy Heath`s number. They werent overly impressive yesterday either. We made it far to easy.

Billy was absolutely furious yesterday. Taking the paint off the walls. Everyone left the dressing room with their heads down and ashen faced.
He was not a happy bunny. Not surprised either.

Unbelievable Saturday. Being able to do something I'm guessing most fans take for granted like do a few local pubs then walk up to the ground and hop on a bus home instead of a 50 mile round trip for a home game is unbeatable, something we've not had for 14 long frigging years.

Loads of old faces I hadn't seen for ages. A cracking gate of over 2000, fair play to York who took just over 300.

As for the game, first 25 or 30 mins was pretty even. We probably shaded it possession wise but not many clear cut chances for either side. Then we grew into the game and Danny King's finish put us 1 up before the break.

2nd half Robert's strike took a deflection and went in and basically York rolled over. In all honesty, their keeper kept it from being 6 or 7.

Difficult to know how we are from that, 2 games played and unbeaten and Groves has the best ppg ratio of any manager for us so far, but York had key players out and in that second half were really bad.

To be honest thought you looked a good team but not sure how good because we were appalling.
Worried by the end of August we won’t have anything to play for and then get all injured players back.
Spent the weekend in Gloucester, apart from football had a great time, round quayside is quality and worth a trip, not quiet sure about old town centre though never seen so many dodgy drunks,

Quays is where all the money has been spent and its smart round there. City centre is the opposite, its rough as hell and crime is through the roof last few years.

Stayed at New inn,it’s an eye opener round that area, does every drunk and druggy hand out on street.
Never seen a place change in 200 metres like that and seen England abroad 70 times and been to some right shitholes.

There's 4 "gate" streets in the centre of Gloucester that lead to each other, New Inn is on Northgate. There's a halfway house further down the road so yep can be near undesirables. Westgate isn't too bad (it's where the cathedral is) but it's hit and miss, Eastgate st is a dump and leads to the worst area in the city (Barton) and Cromwell St is off that too, Southgate st goes towards the quays.

I see Hereford have signed Zeli Ismail. That's surely a very good signing for the NL North on paper but I'm not sure what he's like nowadays.

Ismail joins Blair Adams, Michael Perrasso, Louis Laing, Liam Noble and Haydn Hollis as young players from the Notts team that Shaun Derry somehow had top of League One now playing in non-league (last season I know with Petrasso).

Zeli looked good then and likely to go on to have a career in the Championship.

To say that we were a bit off the pace on Saturday is an understatement due entirely to the covid break for the last two weeks, but we did come storming back from 2-0 down to tie the game and made some good chances to go on and win.We need to start tonight the way we finished Saturday and if we do that I think we will be to much for Curzon to handle

Chester 0-2 Curzon at the moment Curzon should have made it 3-0 also although Chester then also missed a good chance moments later.

Chester commentators so hard to know here if Curzon doing well or Chester awful, but it’s a very good score line

Just got home from that and although you guys deserved the win it was a completely self inflicted defeat by our glorious managerss, who despite seeing our substitutes rescue a point for us on Saturday started with the same team that found itself 2-0 down on Saturday. We only started playing when those same three subs got on the pitch and caused problems. We had 4 good chances included an overhead kick by George Waring, not to mention a good penalty appeal turned down. To cap it off Simon Grand teed your lad up for a third with an outrageously poor pass back. The three players who went off: Stephenson, Johnson and Hardy look Unibond standard at best. I'm afraid we will be stuck in this league untill we get a decdent manager on board because these two are useless and into their 4th and hopefully last season.

You did very well and your lads up front held the ball up well and caused us lots of problems, for us we pulled three players off on Saturday because they were awful and we started all three again tonight, the managers need to explain why they did that instead of picking the lads that replaced them and did so much better.

Wasn't John Johnston really highly rated at Alty? Always looked quality for them

It’s funny but he has never consistently played well since he came to us very hit and miss and shouldn’t have started at all tonight after being pulled of Saturday because he was so poor.

Unbelievably rubbish, we did improve as the game went on but the issue is that the players impressing off the bench need to be given a chance. Jude, LMH & Askew have to start as they improve us enormously if they do.

Problem is the managers clearly have their favourites and come across as undroppable (Grand, who is finished, and Johnston) in particular.

Curzon did really well on the night and the scoreline does not flatter them one bit.

Should be a healthy crowd on Bank Holiday Monday for our visit. I would make you guys favourites to beat us! It'll be tough for us, especially with the excellent start you've made.
I can't wait first away game in ages :woo:

Got in one with managers having blue-eyed boys. I think they were together and the managers did the same trick at Salford City with Grand and Johnston. Our manager had a soft spot with one or two of his Blyth players that he brought across.

Good crowds at Gloucester and Spennymoor. Those Alfreton, Gateshead and Curzon crowds must be a concern for clubs. Not glamorous ties for any of them but the first home game in a long time for a lot of clubs and that's all they can muster.

Yes totally agree very healthy crowds. I do wonder sometimes are some our fan's watching Spenny? When we don't have a game due to boredom. I don't honestly know how they survive with mediocre attendances. Northern Premier League is actually on a par with these clubs regarding fans coming through the turnstiles.

You can’t write this shit,we have had four games at 2K capacity the council have lifted it to 4K,it’s a 40 million pound stadium that should house 8500.
On a positive note got 4 back in training including 3 defenders so might be able to field a defence for Saturday.
