Well Done Gateshead, it will be good to renew our acquaintance but they are a bogey team for us.
Having said that Alty are going Full time next season :sb:
So are Macc it's just been announced, as crazy as it seems for a tier 8 team....

Noticed that, surprising.

Be interesting to see how it works out for you, comes across as trying to run before you can walk to me though. Senior players at that level won't like it and you're better off saving the money being needlessly spent for bigger challenges in the years to come. Us, Hereford, Darlington etc can all testify to that.

If Brackley had won league and got out of this hellhole I would of posted the same message.
Gateshead were the best team I saw this season and scored a massive 97 goals.
Correct me if wrong but was talking to your turnstile operator and he told me how much your chairman puts into your club,so should be near top.
It’s clubs like York,Boston and Flyde that’s done poorly.
On a separate note York last years books are in and have a net equity of £3,582,036 after sale of Bootham Crescent.
Did he tell you a figure? Be interested to know. And also how he knows... cause the rest of us don't.
Anyway, since I don't know, you'll note I didn't mention the finances.
Either way, we're not wealthy enough to be full-time, to have a deep squad or to have ever paid a fee for a player in our history. So we're still punching well above our weight compared to full-time ex league clubs...
And for us Nat North is no hellhole, it's the highest league we've been in in the clubs 131 year history... so we're enjoying it!

Yeah feels like a waste of money to me going pro this early. Should buy us a smooth passage up through a couple more divisions but might leave the resources looking a bit depleted by the time we reach tier 6.

Started the prep for next season with the signing of Jacob Hazel from Whitby. 26 goals last season. Paid a fee as well. Desperate for a regular goalscorer after Charman left, so hopefully he can cut it a level up.

Turnstyle operator would be privy to that then?

Brackley Town's keeper Danny Lewis ends the regular National League North season with 28 clean sheets from 42 games.

Their defence have conceded just 23 times this season.

City 2 Blyth 2. Kinda summed up a lot of our season. McClure once again out injured so Matt Green (2 goals in 19) led the line with Hulbert (2 goals in 18) behind him. The usual central pairing of Nugent and Gerring again out (over a month now) so Martinez and Harrison started. Can't see Gerring being with us next season.

We dominated most of the play, in chunks anyway, but despite quality final balls had nobody to stick it in over and over again. Hulbert tries but I can't help but think he's had a purple patch and 2 years from now he'll be playing southern league football. He's missed some absolute sitters recently. Green just doesn't put his body on the line and there's basically no goal threat from him. We need 3 new forwards as McClure can barely play 15 minutes every 3 weeks.

Blyth looked good going forwards and hit us on the counter attack for the first, bit of a keeper error but Wiles-Richards has been immense for us since he came in on loan and kept us in it with decent saves. They actually made our keeper work, something we couldn't do. Dawson then missed a penalty, cracking it against the crossbar.

We've left it late for about 3 weeks in a row now and yesterday was no different. Robert came off the bench and slotted home a equaliser and then Tomlinson who has been superb the last few months hit what we thought would be the winner a minute later. However JJ O'Donnell got a, deserved, equaliser in what was basically the last kick of the game.

Jordan Thompson was missing due to injury, but rumours are Southend are interested (Collymore was at Meadow Park last weekend).

I was going to add now that we have been promoted you may have more of a chance to sign the three players we have on loan to you permanantly. But after reading your report -- Maybe you don't wish to.

Really pleased AFC Telford managed to stay up, it's a club with real potential if they can find the right manager, players, board, backers and other important stuff.

Would definitely have Tomlinson. Martinez I think is a tidy player too so wouldn't be against him coming. Hulbert has just faded away unfortunately

Russ Penn and Jimmy O'Connor have signed 3 year deals with the club. Perfect day to announce as the Daily Mail (not that it's exactly trustworthy) had a story yesterday about how Penn is attracting EFL interest

I’ve always thought that too. Decent ground, and when they do well can get some good support. Massive underachievers over the years however.

We've released 5 players today and transfer listed one.

Fabien Robert is the most high profile released. Frankly kept us in the National South a few years ago, scored some of the most outrageous goals you'll ever see. Sadly this season, like too many other players, spent it on the sidelines injured or suspended. Had a great end to the campaign however.

Centre back Tom Harrison has gone, bit surprised at that one. Young and committed but probably made too many mistakes. Max Sheaf was a major disappointment and he did nothing in his loan at Hungerford either, no surprise he's released. Goalkeeper Jake Cole missed way too many games with injuries so again not much of a surprise. Ben Gerring picked up a bad injury which ruled him out for the rest of the season so was always going to leave.

Bernard Mensah transfer listed. Cannot describe how poor he's been.

Reserve keeper Armstrong, CB Jordon Thompson and Daniel Leadbitter have been offered new deals.

Apparently only 5 players have been offered deals for next seasoin for us. The new manager will have a rebuild on his hands.

They are mostly just the no brainers who have resale value that we have to get done as quickly as possible.

I'm guessing: Williams, Stevenson, Weeks. Stanway and possibly Roberts. Burke and Heywood are already contracted aren't they?

Our retained list is out. Largely what fans expected, can see most of the released players dropping down a level or two:

Released:
Brandon Taylor
George Smith
Joe Wheatley
Lexus Beeden
Alex Storey
Danny Ellis
Jake Cassidy
James Beauchamp

Returning to parent club:
Danny Rose
Nathan Lowe
Tyrone O’Neill
Cameron Thompson
Dominic McHale

Albeit it sounds like we're fairly progressed in trying to give contracts to Rose & Lowe.

Great to see that York have won their playoff tonight. Really pleased for John Askey and though it seems a pretty hard route now hopefully they keep it going.

Askey has turned this club round,Fantastic appointment.
Dont believe we have players to get promoted but future looks good.
Fans are happy and got 6316 tonight with only 300 Chorley.

I have to disagree with the final point. We finished 21 points ahead, but York in form, Brackley not. A real 50/50 game I reckon. Think the crowd might be a touch lower on Saturday.

To be honest that's when Askey is at his best working with players who aren't perhaps the most talented but getting them to work as a unit. Great bloke just a shame he was let down by a bunch of wasters with us. One of the knocks that was against him in the past was some of the recruitment could be a bit lazy i.e. going after his former players but its been very telling he hasn't done that at York. That crowd is incredible as well, about four times what certain clubs in our league get.

You would think brackley and their 400 fans would welcome the income. Let York have 3 sides of the ground if you can’t fill it.
