Much improved performance on the road, deservedly taking the lead through Smalley who is proving to be a bit of a find. Second half they threw the kitchen sink at us with Jeacock making several good stops to deny them an equaliser. So it was ironic that a a howler from him gave them it. Crazy amount of injury time again, Boro almost won it but a shot went wide of the post. Then in the last kick of the game Smalley almost won it for us with a volley that just went wide.

Couldn’t get to go Saturday but watching highlights seems a typical affair for us at home currently we create next to nothing until about the 80th minute.

Go a little away with it in other home games as we at least scored one but didn’t against Tamworth and lost.

Tactics seem to suit away football, need changed at home we create very little.

Interesting game for Curzon need to really be going to Peterborough and winning if wanting to be top half challenger so we will see.

We have done better away but Lakeland has a shocking record vs poorer sides we should easily have been top 7 last two seasons but for that major issue.

Away at Tamworth tonight, would happily take a point now. Had a couple of injuries occur Saturday so hoping these players are fit, not optimistic.

Back to the top of the table after another pretty dominant home win.

We really should have scored a lot more in the 1st half, 2nd was a bit more scrappy but South Shields never really threatened.

Two wins on the trot for us now after humping Scarborough 3-1 tonight. Hopefully we're starting to put our run of one point in 14 matches to bed now!

One of the worst games of football I've ever seen. A point but my God, that was totally boring to watch

We were really poor tonight and lost to a late 30 yard strike. Had enough chances but generally bad throughout. Not sure Hereford looked up to much other than having a decent left back, but kept in it when behind and then took their chances at the death, could see it coming.

I think once Scunny start to hit the ground running should be plain sailing after that I would have thought.

As I feared, our lack of any quality I depth of squad came home to roost last night, we desperately need to get 2 or 3 players in but I fear there is no budget to do it, looking like a difficult season. Mid table at best I suspect.

Another poor result last night. Peterborough were down to 10 men after two minutes of the match (how do you get sent off so quickly!!)

Yet somehow we were nearly on course to lose that game vs a poor side playing all game with 10 men and thankfully grabbed an equaliser for it not to be embarrasing.

Last week has said enough to say top 7 isn’t a chance with current set up……….cannot score goals need to keep working on finding better solutions going forward.

Following extensive discussions and reflection on the first team’s performances over the past eight months, and having consulted with the Darlington FC Supporters Group Board, the Board of DFC regrets to announce that manager Alun Armstrong and assistant manager Darren Holloway have been given notice of termination of their employment contracts, and relieved of their duties.

David Johnston, Chair and CEO, said “Having looked at results since the start of 2023, when we were top of National League North and in particular the very poor start to the current season, we were unanimous as a board that a change needed to be made. It is a decision that has not come easily. We are sure that all fans will join us in thanking Alun and Darren for their time at Darlington FC and wish them well for the future.”

We will issue a further statement on first team staff in due course.

Update -

Following on from the announcement that management pair Alun Armstrong and Darren Holloway have been relieved of their duties, the club would now like to announce that senior players Will Hatfield, Tom Platt and Jake Lawlor have agreed to take caretaker charge until somebody is appointed permanently to the manager's position.

We are certain that all Darlington fans will support the three senior players as they prepare for the away game at Bishop's Stortford on Saturday.

The club has already received several applications for the role, and the board is now working through them. Applications should be sent by Monday teatime, 11th September.

You need a game against us. We have lost our way and were gash last night. No goals in the team. Hall wouldn't have scored if he were still playing. Really don't get the love-in with him.

It is looking good for Scunthorpe at present they are scoring lots of goals most games which if it keeps up should see them win a lot of games as I don’t see many scoring against them. They just have to be wary as Kings Lynn also looked strong this time last season, Tamworth are doing great at present but the question to ask is whether this is new promoted team bounce and will it stay throughout season and end up abit like Scarborough and drop away.

Got to give credit to Brackley also another season where on paper you think their good times have gone, they missed their chance and yet here they go again, hardly scoring but constantly doggedly determined and steady.

Amazing how teams react to changes in manager.

To get the best out of Hall you have to play the ball to feet and have players running off him, having him upfront on his own and lumping balls up to him just doesn’t work.

We are looking great at the moment, the biggest question is whether or not the off the field issues will have an impact on the pitch.

Jimmy Dean has got us playing some really great football and we do have a good squad for this level so hopefully we can continue to play well and win games.

Been so long since I have actually felt optimistic before games

A wk ago it did look like southprt & rushall might get cut adrift, like telfud were last season. Now it;s really tightened up. Looks like this could be 1 of those seasons where there's about 8-9 pts between the playoffs and relegation come April. A bad last month could see you go from 8th and challenging to being relegated. And maybe vice-versa with a late run.

He is absolutely brilliant, one of the best players we've had in years. Covers ground like nobody else. Got sent off on saturday though so will miss the next three, think we will struggle to replace him.

We had Russ Wilcox on comms last night and he kept saying how good Scales was for him last year too

And pretty much a new squad too. Am pleasantly suprised by the start.

Hoping Hatfield, Platt and Lawlor can turn fortunes around. A loss in this one would be worrying. If Hatfield and Platt play, and they have to, not sure who will be leading from the bench as Lawlor is suspended for his sending off last week so I assume cannot be involved.
