Congratulations to Gateshead FC on joining the relegation battle in the Vanarama National.
Thankyou, we have been making a determined effort to do so over recent weeks. Things may change now though.

Good start for Aspin then.
He wasnt even manager today, he sat in the stands and watched the game while Micky Cummins & Ben Clark picked the team.
Lee Nogan is also coming in as his assistant once he waits out his 3 week notice period.

How's the new stadium progressing ... or has it been mothballed?
No one really knows or is telling. Last rumour was that a site near the Metrocentre was being looked at, then we changed owners so who knows.

Chuffed Aspin's got the job. In reality it's a step up given Gateshead's budget must be nearly twice ours, and they're full-time. Gives Aspin a much more realistic chance of getting a team into the league. I hope it being his hometown team helps too. Either way it's convenient that we've finished with the Heed this season as I can now wish them well and hope their playoff bid restarts, probably my new third team.

Neil needed a change of scenery and a fresh start. His last few months at The Shay became a multitude of nonsense decisions. He has an eye for talent lower down and his earlier sides with us had fight and a 110% attitude. A full time team and budget might be the challenge he can rise to.
Few things fans and players need to be aware though.
1. Don't question him. Those that fall out with Aspin will learn he has a long illogical memory. Ronaldo could have pissed him off and he would find him on the peripherals of the squad for the rest of the season in place of a kid from Coventry's U19's.
2. He does not like natural width. Any naturally wide players you have might as well start seeking their careers away from the Heed. Unless you are a striker then there might be a future for you (see point 3).
3. Forget your natural position. Does not matter if you have played a role your entire career, if Aspin decides you are more suited elsewhere then that's your new position regardless of whether you have the technical and physical attributes. This applies to new and existing players alike. "30 goal striker in the lower divisions? Excellent sign here. Oh and by the way have you ever considered a role running up and down the channels nowhere near the goals".

Another gateshead fan chipping in here, yes we have others. Best of luck to aspin. Im one for giveing managers time and get sick of managerial merry go rounds at other clubs but malcom crosby defo had to go. Worcester was bad but there was no way back after halifax. As for ground i believe its back on agenda, which is good. It seemed to get quitely shelved last season before new owners came. Whilst the international stadium aint ideal its in town and its well maintained and good facilities. Rather that than depressing grounds like brunton park and kenilworth road, like a trip back pre war

Will be interesting to see if he goes down the same route he did with Halifax when they very effectively got to the playoff semis. The swarm of battlers in the middle of park shouldn't be too difficult to recruit, I wouldn't have thought. Finding another Lee Gregory to latch onto them through balls isn't something anyone should be counting on though. I haven't paid a massive amount of attention to the Gateshead squad over the past season or so, so forgive my ignorance but are there any/many of the Mills squad left there?

Good luck Aspo, a Vale legend and only 15 months ago was hoped he would take over at Vale Park but seems to have had a bad year and hopefully can recover his managerial career.

I wish him all the luck in the world. Neither Aspin or the Halifax supporters should be bitter either way. Parting was best for all,

Just 2 senior players that mills signed are still there thankgod as he made some poor signings and wasted alot of money. Matty pattison and john shaw are the two but john shaw had been with club before. The best of the players in my opinion are those signed by ian bogie

You must be the only person who'd prefer the International Stadium to Brunton Park and Kenilworth Road!

Nice to see the Conference's most overrated manager continuing his fine work in the North East.

Proper football grounds as opposed to an athletics stadium where you are miles away from the action? No contest.
Running track aint idea but haway brunton park belongs in pre war, not pleasant facilities for fans, mind few more like it

I'd have thought he's slipped somewhat from his hiatus, you know, that time he guided a part time club into the play-offs, and then a place in the top ten, while over-rated full time clubs like Lincoln and their hilarious managers floundered in mid table obscurity. Still, you carry on perpetuating your fallacies if it makes you feel clever, while at the same time looking like a dick.:woot:
