Been planning this away day for a little while, should be good, an Interesting game this. After the massive night on Tuesday, there's a chance this could a little like 'after the Lord Mayor's show'. We picked up knocks to a few players, some others put in massive shifts and must be feeling it, like Gradel who's played 140 minutes in 4 days after 6 solid months injured. So I imagine there will be some changes made for us. A point would be a decent result for us looking at the league table now.
For Newcastle, paper talk suggests McClaren will be sacked if he doesn't win this. Newcastle have to attack us, their crowd will be expecting them to come out, especially after by accounts a lackluster and timid defeat against Stoke. And to be honest, it's all music to our ears. We like teams to come out at us, and we have a brilliant record over the last 3 years of getting managers sacked
Jonjo Shelvey has called on his team mates to show "big balls" on Saturday and has fired something of a rallying cry. We'll have to see if his team mates pay any attention!
We will need to dig in here and keep things tight to start with, which isn't always something we do well. If we can force Newcastle into getting frustrated and throwing more players forward, that would play completely into our hands. BUT, it means we have to remain strong initially. If Newcastle score first we're in trouble.
Perhaps another score draw like Sunderland, that'd do. A defeat puts us back in the crap. A win all but secures survival.
Excellent way to end an excellent week. every year we for some reason hit our stride in March and we're looking close to being safe as a result.
Huge oerfrmances from Josh King, Steve Cook and Charlie Daniels. Newcastle though we're woeful. With that squad and that budget, they should not be close to the position they're in, McClaren can't have long left surely? Locals were not happy and really showed it.
On another note, I bloody loved St.James' Park, despite being above the clouds
A scrappy game with out a huge amount of quality on show, but a few huge individual performances from us lifting us above Newcastl's level just about and got the job done.
Charlie Daniels needs to be in that England squad sooner or later. Is there a more in form left back?
Newcastle in a world of trouble, but not beyond them to finish 4th from bottom with a fresh idea or two.
