Can't see us getting anything out of this despite Newcastles poor start. Just hoping for an improvement on Saturday.

Seems Referees are going to be giving a few penalties to Newcastle this season.

Just seen that Gouffran started. I didn't realise he was still there. Rafa is really giving the dead wood a chance to show that they aren't entirely dead. Still can't believe how much money Newcastle have spent, yet somehow have kept Dummet as a starter.

makes up for the blatant penalty denied at fulham. i mean, not really since that error cost us a point... but still.

we've got gamez and haidara to come in to the side yet, benji. hopefully one of them takes his spot soon enough. terrible player.

The last time Shola grabbed a hat-trick. Least tonight wasn't that bad.

Reading have been fined £5000 for "failing to control players" (or gathering around the ref). The incident was in the third minute of the game when the ref awarded a goal for Newcastle when it clearly came off his hand.

The Reading players gathered around the ref to make him check with the linesman who agreed with everyone that it was handball and no goal.

So we got fined to stop Gayle get away with cheating? Refs have been terrible this season and the FA are just letting them get away with it.

The rule is that you can't crowd the referee, not that you can't crowd the referee unless you're right.

And had we not we would have been 1-0 down? It took A LOT of crowding just to even get the ref to consult the linesman. Common sense should prevail.

Meanwhile Gayle gets away without any punishment despite clearly trying to cheat. It's as bad as denying a goal scoring chance with your hand. And the referee will be free to ruin games for more Championship clubs safe with the knowledge that the FA will side with him if he fails again.

Don't really understand why the ref had to consult with the linesman. If the liner saw it surely he would put his flag up and give a free kick? They must have guessed

The point is that if they aren't punished for crowding the referee, then they aren't implementing their own law correctly. The referee consulting the linesman or not is a separate issue.

If you let players get away with it when they're right, then they will try it when they're wrong. And that makes the entire thing pointless.

OK, maybe it is just a terrible law that gives too much protection to the referee. If they cannot be ridiculed when they are wrong, why bother to praise them when they're correct.

The handball itself was just SO obvious, that it seems ludicrous that the only party punished from the whole event is the club that were nearly cheated out of conceding a goal.

Either way, i'm sure any Championship club would take a £5k fine over a goal conceded.
