Give it Wenger. Its a no-brainer. He doesn't have to spend any dosh and finishing 4th in a world cup would be a massive improvement

Would love it to be Wenger but he will still feel there's unfinished business with Arsenal, I expect if Gareth Southgate does well in his 4 games he will be given the job.

Wenger would be an excellent appointment for England, by far the best they could hope for, but it's looking fairly clear he is only using the prospect of taking that job to get a better contract at Arsenal....

Southgate had one full time job at Middlesborough where he did reasonably ok, but then got them relegated and was sacked. For the Under 21s he's had some dreadful tournaments (was it 2) before winning the, rather unimportant, Toulon tournament.

Is he a good manager? Well, the evidence suggests not. I hope they appoint him.

My favourite Southgate moment was him telling Fabio Cannavaro how to defend during a punditry session.
