Only a month or so away from puck drop, and an interesting summer - the next hockey Jesus is in Edmonton, along with a bunch of other people that don't suck. What is that? The standings won't look right without the Oilers at the bottom.

Expansion applications are in for Quebec (yay!) and Las Vegas (WTF?), and I'd expect them both to sign on for the NHL's centenary year in 2017.

Meanwhile, we Penguin types have picked up Phil "The Thrill" Kessel in the hopes we can score more than 4 goals in a playoff season. We shall see....

Interesting to see that Crosby has been on the same line as Dupuis and Kunitz in off season skates whilst Kessel has been on the line with Geno.

I like the move to pick up Eric Fehr and Jim Rutherford did well in getting Nick Bonino for Brandon Sutter. I'm looking forward to seeing Sergei Plotnikov and his transition from the KHL to the NHL, those seemingly ITK have liked what they've seen from him.

This thread is dead, does everyone just come out for the playoffs or something? :bye:

In unsurprising news, a hallmark of my teams are that none of them, irrespective of sport, can defend. The Jets are proving that with the second worst defence in the NHL.

I didn't realise it was here! Caps are going well. Poxed a bit of a lucky win at the Habs last night, but we get plenty of bad luck so I'll take it. Shrewd trades and Kuzya having a breakout season has meant that all the weight isn't on Ovy to carry us forward. Ovy has had a quiet start to the season as well, so we should really push on when he turns it on

Worst thing is I'm in regular contact with three fans who support the Rangers, Caps and Isles, three sides who have started very strongly this season and are quick to mock the Jets defensive failings. Think I hate the Rags more than any other franchise in the league for a variety of reasons.

Washington were the best team we've played this season so far with Dallas and St Louis the only sides to come even close.

Hoping the emergence of Hellebuyck (think I spelt it right) means we'll concede less, he's started off very well! Pavelec has gone to pot and Hutchinson is far too inconsistent.

Just watched Capitals 5-2 win over the Sabres, really enjoyed it, might stay up for the Flyers game.

We're for real this season. The injuries are mounting up though. Orpik, Carlson, Beagle, Backstrom, Latta all out now. The depth is being tested

Didn't even realise this thread existed. Think we lost a few hockey fans on the transition from TFF to 1FF.

My Calgary Flames are still doing their upmost to claw their way back into contention for a play off spot after a god awful start. Defence has started to pick up, as have the special teams and goaltending, all of which were brutal in the first 15-20 games. Can't complain though, got one of the most(if not the most) exciting players in hockey right now in Johnny Gaudreau. The kid is a frickin wizard with the puck.

We're lucky we're playing in a god awful Pacific Division where bar the Kings, nobody looks particularly strong.

The Jets have the unfortunate knack of failing to win Divisional games and failing to win road games. Our home record and record against Eastern Conference sides is very good but we're losing tight divisional games and there's no surprise we're bottom of a very strong Central. We're a young side and the playoffs last season was unprecedented, but after such a good start, it's disappointing to see us with one eye looking towards next season already.

Seems to be a lot of sub-standard performances in the NHL this year from certain big name individuals, I wonder why that is.

Can't wait for the Winter Classic game with the Habs tomorrow. They are always the toughest out for the Bruins but after really sucking last year this team has the feel of one slowly back on the up. Could do without Marchand going and getting himself suspended for sheer stupidity against the Sens. Him and Krejci (on IR) being out is going to be tough to overcome.

Strange looking at our division at the moment with the Panthers leading the way. Just doesn't seem right but respect to them for doing it. Be a change if they can sustain it.

I wouldn't worry too much, the Habs are crippled without Price to bail them out. Marchand is a dirt bag though, just a horrible human being.

How many times has Marchand been done for clipping now? such an unnecessary, dangerous play

Bizarre thing is, he did the same thing a few years back and got 5 games. He does it again in a worse fashion and he gets 3. The NHL disciplinary panels just make things up as they go along I think.

Having looked forward to the Winter Classic and all the pre-game build up talk about being brought back down to earth against our greatest rivals. Outside of the fact on the PK we were excellent the rest of the game there was nothing positive to say at all. We barely even so much as won a face-off it felt like such was the Habs dominance. I think ultimately we have a good chance of making the post season but when it comes to playing the best teams under the bright lights we're going to come up small like we did tonight. Very discouraging effort.

STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS! I didn't want to put the mockers on the Pens so refrained from posting on here.

Two blockbuster trades today - the first one being the Devils committing highway robbery on the Oilers by getting Taylor Hall in exchange for Adam Larsson. The second trade was the Canadiens trading PK Subban for the Predators Shay Weber.

Edit: Worth checking the replies to the Habs tweet on the trade. Comedy gold.

And Stamkos re-signs with the Lightning, so free agent frenzy got a lot more boring.

Edmonton got fleeced from a pure value standpoint, but they will be a better team for this trade.

Depends on whether or not the Oilers can make a play at Milan Lucic.

Meanwhile Caps kinda fixed a problem position in C3 trading a few shitty picks for Lars Eller. We still need legit scoring in the top 6 so, it's such an issue.

Honestly felt we gave the Pens their biggest test, but there was no stopping them after about 60 games in. Change of coach made unbelievable differences.
