I thought we'd sell this game out with ease but the game being on TV, no available parking and train service disruption has ended any chance of that.

Strange either way only taking 1400 as we've taken more to less important games this season!

Did you used to take the home ends back then?
You've lost me on that I'm afraid.
But I suspect you might be referring to an activity which was perhaps more prevalent in decades of yore...before all-seater grounds,cctv,pre-bought tickets and segregation all came into play.

You mean the 1980s that you were so keen to bring up earlier on?

Crewe's support has always been poor both home and away as far back as i can remember and I've been going since the late 60's. In fact for a couple of seasons in the early 80"s they failed to bring 1 single fan to Prenton. In more recent times for a league 1 fixture less than 230 showed.

No way there'd have been no Alex fans at Prenton Park-even In the early eighties.
I don't think you had much segregation going on back then,if any at all,so you probably just didn't 'see' any.
Your support at that time was dire-probably worse than ours.I recall you lot only opened one stand for a while to try and make the 'crowd' look more packed,or something.
I also recall your dreadful average gate of around 1,600 when you finished about 6th in the mid-eighties and that Clarke fella was scoring for fun week in week out.
The turning point for you lot,gate-wise,was the final home fixture v Exeter,I think,in about '87.You needed a result to avoid possible relegation and got a healthy turnout. This increased interest carried on next season and your gates continued to improve, which was good to see, looking on as a football fan in general.

Three sides of Prenton park were closed after barriers collapsed during an FA cup game against Huddersfield in 1980, leaving only the main stand and paddocks open. Away fans were allocated the Bebington paddock. Crewe weren't the only club not to bring an away following in those days either, but clubs like Torquay and Aldershot had excuses.
The lowest Tranmere away following I've ever witnessed was at Mansfield in the mid 80"s when 16 turned up for a Tuesday night game.
Back in the dark days of the late 70 s early 80 s 100 was considered a decent away turn out at Prenton park but trouble usually ensued, which played some part in stopping real football fans from returning. This and mass unemployment following the closure of Birkenheads key industries led to poor attendances.

Ah that explains it. Yes he is a goon.

I should have thought it suspicious there being two, they haven't got that many fans.
Er,what was your home 'crowd' v Hartlepool in the mid-eighties? 893 or thereabouts...and just a few seasons after your glory years of Dixie McNeill and Second Division football too!
We were shit for a long time but have never had the embarrassment of less than 1,000 turning up.
In a word: loyalty. ;)

Yes,I think the amount that travel consistently to all games in the lower leagues is clearly better than it was in the 70's/early eighties. There were many occasions back then when pretty much no away support was visible at Gresty Road.

Is this the 'lower league crowds from the 1980s' thread?

Crewe have had crowds dipping below 3000 THIS season, let alone the height of football hooliganism and a general apathy towards football in the 80s.

Besides noone at Crewe would have noticed. Too busy abusing the academy lads.

We've had two crowds below 3,000 this season...the first time we've dipped below 3K for a league game in nearly 20 years.
Like I said before: loyalty.
As for the academy lads jibe-that's a pretty cheap shot and reflects badly on you.
I could mention sheep but won't.

A sheep comment would be a lazy stereotype. The academy comment is based on documented fact. In poor taste maybe but I don't particularly like you.

That's twice more than ours has and our opponents frequently bring double figure away followings, sometimes less for the smaller further away teams.

Can one of the Admins please fuck Football Purist off again?

Back on topic, 725 Shots out of a crowd of 1248 at Solihull.
Gurrd effort. How many you reckon you'll bring to us, massive game for both, hopefully a good crowd.

Look,I don't particularly care whether you like me or dislike me but I don't think I've ever done anything that would make you 'dislike' me,other than me being a Crewe fan and engaging in a bit of banter with you.
But each to their own,etc.
