Looking to continue our good run in this one and feeling pretty confident. Barnet have won only 5 points away from home this season I believe and we have been pretty good at home so far. That being said I was at The Hive earlier in the season when we put it an AWFUL display so always a chance we could slip up.

This is the first time Barnet have been back to Sixfields since they were relegated a few seasons ago. I was surprised that a lot held grudges based on the behaviour of some of our fans chanting going down etc. We have faced it several times when we have been down there, surprised it struck such a nerve.

Anyway going for a 3-1 victory for us. Holmes, Cresswell and Rico.

It's pretty mindless behaviour though, to celebrate the misfortune of a club you literally have no connection to except playing them twice a season. I don't hold a grudge personally, bit I can fully understand why some do.

Anyway: we'll lose (probably after going 1-0 up). Next.

I think it all stemmed from Barnet fans behaviour a while before that, there's always been a bit of needle. Barry Fry sprinting down the touchline in the cup etc.

I fancy a 2-2 draw here. Barnet impressed me going forward but are suspect at the back.

Difference is they did go down tho, and the kids in the corner rubbing it in would have left a bitter taste (maybe their relief at seeing our bogey side relegated)
Could easily have been us the season before and the season after and I really did feel their pain, I cringed at our younger fans lack of compassion for fellow lower league supporters

We will probably win the first 70 minutes and then concede two.
Our first eleven are playing well but we fall apart when the subs come on. If you took away the last 20 min of the last 4 games we'd be Scored 6, conceded 1.

Whilst I can understand that to a degree it is kind of par for the course. If your losing a game the other team will songs about that. Same with when your down the bottom, was just surprised at a few Barnet fans who seemed to have as much of a problem with us because of it. I imagine it would of been the same in the games leading up to that.

It was one group of Northampton fans who were more interested in showing how pleased they were to see us relegated. It wasn't about winning or losing the game and there was nothing like it in the previous games that season.
tbh the whole day just seemed surreal, everyone had put so much emotion into the last game at Underhill the week before that there was none left by the time we got to Northampton. We were relegated with a whimper and part of me was just relieved it was all over.

It's par for the course only for people who are knobheads that get more enjoyment from the disappointment of others than the team they pay to watch and support. Chants to and fro are normal and expected for anyone, but taking enjoyment from the relegation of another team? Nah.

Especially when dropping into non-league, you never know what'll happen to a club. Look how many have gone bust or are never to be seen above county level again. It's not really something to laugh at

Yeah thats fair enough. As stated above though think a lot of it come from the teen contingent in the corner and they always come out with rubbish. Some young lad came up to me after our game at the hive and started singing "2-0 on your big day out", I simply laughed. Certainly wouldnt wish non league on anyone though!

On the day our friend Rob Dunkley, who this L2 forum is named after, has been buried I think we ought to stop the petty squabbling and have a reality check guys

Yep, loved the flowers by the way.

It's completely par for the course. The "Going Down" chants have happened to us every time we've been in danger of relegation and (some of) our fans sing it at other teams that are relegation-bound - not something I do personally but it's as standard as the "you're shit....aaah" chant at the opposition goalie.

I think a few Barnet fans need to get over themselves. It's football, people sing naughty songs and take the piss!

I was at sixfields and the fact we went out with a whimper bothered me more

Blimey Ive sung far worse to Plymouth fans during the foot and mouth crisis years ago

It's football FFS

I agree with you BFS,
However I will admit that their fans behaviour on that day made me far less sympathetic to Northamptons plight since and tbh Id rather be tinpot Barnet than begging bowl cobblers.

Still, we are both over the bad times and hopefully can just look forward to a decent league two game.

It's football, fans chant 'naughty' things at games, stop being so precious. #going down, going down # and others with similar messages are sung at every ground where the other team is in danger of or have the potential to be relegated.
We are immune to it now we have had it chanted at us enough times, our best response is normally #so are we, so are we #.
They say that the first is the worse...you probably won't be so precious the next time...

Bullshit. You think in my 25 years of supporting Barnet I've only seen them relegated once. I'm not precious and if you come to a day when your club drops out of the football league then you will be better placed to understand the risk to a clubs survival it poses.

Perhaps Hereford, Scarborough, Stockport and Darlington were not warning enough.

We are all well aware of the implications of dropping into Division 5 and none of us would want it for our own clubs, but at the end of the match, it's only a chant FFS.....

Deepcut 100% agree with you, the way I see it as much as it's hard to take getting mugged off by other fans, we are all the same and if we sat down afterwards had a pint we'd say we don't mean what we sing.... But it's football

Back to the game, we played really well at Cambridge and should of won. Akinde and maclean are a real handful so I think it will be exciting game. Draw is what I hope for.

I can't make the game but have so many great memories watching bees away at Northampton both at the old ground when Gary bull scored a last minute pen to send that terrace mad and Dougie freedman spoiling the party when your ground opened..... Not forgetting the floodlights going out and us going top in September... Great times

It is indeed only a chant. tbh it wasn't a chant or the words of any chant that bothered me that day, it's the pleasure and joy that small group took instead of focusing on their own teams achievement of the play-offs that just seemed sad, but we all have supporters of that ilk who are more intent on insulting the opposition than praising their own team. In hindsight the chant of 'we'll never play you again' while the cobblers players were doing a lap of honour could easily have come back to haunt them if the last couple of months had panned out differently.

Losing our home and league status in the same season was tough, moving into a half built stadium without gaining planning permission first and having the local council trying to prevent us playing put us in a difficult position. Add to that the dismantlement of the Development squad that had been playing against premiership sides in the Cat 2 competition caused a lot of the good work done to build for the future to be wasted. Even though we have by some miracle made it back in two seasons, it will take years to repair the damage that one season did to our fan base and to complete the work started at the Hive.

Anyway I think it's time for all of us to move on and hopefully both sets of fans will be able to watch their teams in a completed stadium in a few seasons time. Has work started again on that stand?

New plans are being drawn up at the minute, money has been set aside by the chairman to complete it, what we'll get is still unknown.

It's really holding us back at the minute though, the recent Pompey and Accrington games were home end sell outs, and the game against you and MK a week later in the cup will be as well. With Accrington we split the away end and got another 300 home fans in, but that won't happen with you or MK!

I still remember our FA Cup win at the County Ground in 90/91 when Kevin Durham (RIP) scored direct from a corner. Freezing cold but a great night for us.

Par for the course yes, as is any backlash/ill feeling from the fans you are singing it to. It's football. Saying that, Torquay were a lot more gracious in 2001 than Northampton were.

Chanting or no chanting, it doesn't change the fact that Northampton are generally a very dislikable club. Always have been, always will be.

I agree, I find a lot of our fans come across as very bitter don`t you think?
