Oxford vs Peterborough

A team calling themselves the Posh travel to 'Old Money' Oxford. A loss to Fleetwood last night means Oxford are currently on course for 15 points this season. A win on Saturday would mean that we could wait until Saturday 15 October to pick up another point, and still be on track for that lofty goal. That's a powerful incentive and it seems likely to prove the difference - I don't know a single Peterborough fan who expects to get anything from this game.

I will go for a 3-0 win to Oxford.

Turning now to the visitors, and I am always reminded for no good reason of a defeat that the Posh inflicted on us during the opening day of what proved to be a calamitous 2000-2001 season, our last in the third tier, during which we shipped 100 goals and finished bottom of the pile, a mere 25 points from safety.

More recently, many Oxford fans feel grateful for the assistance that Peterborough provided during our lean years in the Conference, when they had a policy of signing literally every player at every other club in the division. Made things easier.

Peterborough fans, please feel free to tell me about your team and any reasons I should be excited to witness you play in two days time.

I think I was pretty clear in my reasoning - the lads are desperate to reach that 15 point mark by May and the chance to get three points on board in a single afternoon will be the difference. Or maybe I'm aware of the futility of predicting a result between a team that I love and a team I last saw play in the summer of 2000 and I haven't taken it that seriously?

With regard to your second point, I think a lot of us would have suspected that League Two was pretty shoddy at the top end last year. Northampton aside, we all went through bad patches and did our best to throw it away at every opportunity. Add to that, the top two suffered some big losses on the playing/managerial side. It's pretty clear that we didn't have the summer we wanted - I'm not at all surprised to see us in the bottom quarter of the league.

Sure Oxford will improve but don't fancy the flat 4-4-2 they're using. Way to easy to find space between the midfield and defence unless you have a League 1 version of Patrick Vieria who completely bosses the midfield.

Having no luck at all so far this season, just been confirmed that Curtis Nelson is out for 4 weeks and Christian Ribeiro will be out for a further 3 months. That means in the first few weeks we have had 8 players have to miss games due to injury or suspension

Sounds very much like our season last year when we had 10 first teamers on the sidelines for a few weeks which saw us fall to bottom place so beware.

Good result, we got battered in the first half, the ref not helping, we were much better in the second, scored pretty much from kick off, and were the better side for most of the half, Peterborough were a good team, although they've got some wankers playing for them

Thought both teams were poor. Posh very much so, think a draw would have been a fair result. Dunno what baldwin was doing for the penalty.

Oh and the smell from the sewage works was awful. Any player ever turned you down because of it?

There's a fine line between healthy dislike and being the first response to anything that is posted about another team. Of course it's good to get other clubs perspective, but I think there'd be a fair bit of piss taking if Ox were posting in your threads as much.

Back on topic: great to get a first win before it became too much of a thing. The first half was pretty low on excitement but we came racing out the blocks in the second and the game picked up. Either side could have won but we had the luck, which is a welcome change this year.

Maguire, Lundstrum and Eastwood all showed a bit of what they can do. Edwards looked very solid. Dunkley and Thomas make us look a lot better - if we ever get our first XI on the pitch, I think we can consolidate our place in this league.

Posh had some nice one-touch attacking moves that were a step above anything Bristol R or Chesterfield did. Very focused on one approach though, and the through ball behind our defence never really worked. Lovely finish for the goal. I thought your #15 would have been useful in a yellow shirt!

Apart from the smell of shit around the stadium, it was an enjoyable game.

We weren't at our best, we improved second half but we just were not good enough in the final third with our last ball. I don't think Oxford deserved all three points, but that's football.

The penalty was a moronic challenge from Baldwin, who has been nothing but a liability this season. His own fault as he was out of position and way too far away from Bostwick which, in fairness, Oxford exploited well.
