Definitely the type of game we would lose normally. Palace is a shit fixture for us at the best of times, combine that with Arsenal and City winning earlier and the added pressure of needing the 3 points to keep up and we'd have fucked it up 95% of the time in recent seasons.

Liverpool's form in all competitions since losing to Burnley...

WDWWWWWDWWW

...with thirty goals scored and nine conceded.

Yet the gang on here still reckon they'll lose every week.

Hmmmmm. Can't remember the last time I predicted a loss. Opening day against Arsenal perhaps.

I never said you were part of the gang, Pagnell.

You are one third of the three amigos but that is something entirely different.

Something to take away from our season, already, is our performances and results in the capital.
At no point during the Palace game, even when they levelled (twice), did I think we wouldn't run out winners.

It's early days, but there's so much to be pleased about.

You can fuck right off if you're going to include me in any way with gdragon and saltire. My nomination for you is being withdrawn.

That's very impressive but in my head they got lucky in 90% of them.

Fiminio looks a different player this year ill hold my hands up on that.

Still think they 4 players short to go all season in this style of play.

Well twat em in a couple of weeks....lolz

Mostly played shit and still got the result. Doing what needs to be done, still joint top points wise.

Lucky? Keep trying toddles.

You guys are in relegation form just now, and Barkley is looking like a league one player at best. I think we'll be fine when we meet. ;)

We were at times fantastic going forward, especially in the first half I thought.

Don't think this defense is a title winning one though.

Neither is City's but they'll probably end up winning it. Of the main contenders only Spurs really have an impressive, well-coached defence.

Leicester won the league with a Huth-Morgan partnership ,hardly inspiring but they did enough. I'm not concerned too much re Lool's back four, Matip(and Karius) new to the league,Milner new to the position and as a unit still bedding in. They've been good enough to see us tied for top spot right now and will almost certainly improve as they play more together.

Inspiring or not, only Spurs and United conceded less in the league last season, and even then by only a single goal. Not really the best comparison.

There will a time, probably in the 2nd half of the season, where what you're doing now won't work quite as effectively and it'll be then that we see exactly what Liverpool are made of. Do you have another dimension to you? Leicester proved they did last season when their counter attacking style was found out and they had to switch to grab a goal and defend the 1-0.

The way Liverpool are playing at the moment is lovely but it's no different to the way Arsenal have played for many years, yet when the going has got tougher, they've been found out. We'll see with Liverpool.

Yep, I can't disagree with that. The pitches will get heavier , the weather colder and wetter, there will be injuries etc but these are things all clubs will have to deal with not just Liverpool. Klopp had them playing good stuff thru last winter taking us to 2 finals and I believe he has better quality/depth in squad and also a much less intense fixture list. Only time will tell but for me I'm not overly concerned re the def. As always injuries could change that tho.

Sure the fewer goals conceded the better but that said its not the be all end all of winning football. Neither of those clubs are/were as prolific at the other end either. I suppose we could pack the def each week and look to hit teams on the counter. We'd probably concede less, score less too but would we be any more likely to be successful?
Klopp has his own style and we're still quite early into this season with a new back four and a rookie keeper. The understanding among the players looks good now but should get even better the more they play together as a unit. Leicester benefited from using essentially the same 11 each week. I'm not one for making predicting about winning this or that but I do think we've yet to see the best from Klopp's side this season and I do believe this years edition can be a very very good one.

Huth and Morgan were rocks last season, but the season didn't start that way, we essentially had a score more than you attitude until we changed the fullbacks. It took Ranieri a while to realise his preferred players and their positions.
The first game in which our best 11 actually started together wasn't until Nov 28, in the draw v Man Utd.

Be all and end all of winning football? Who claimed it was? You compared Liverpool's defence and chances of going all the way with Leicester's defence and the fact they did so. But the comparison is nonsensical. As said, Leicester won the title with only two teams conceding less goals, and in both cases only by a single goal. That wouldn't happen with Liverpool, their defence record is poor.

Not nonsensical at all. Leicester's cb pairing and def as a whole were / are nothing exceptional but Ranieri found a system that worked for them last season, not so much this one. I know that's a simplification coz many other factors obviously can play into winning a title.AndI'll disagree with you on Lpool's def being poor though there is defo room for improvement which I think is already happening. Lpool conceded 5 in the first two games of the season v Arse and Burnley . Since then we've scored 30 and conceded 9 in the next 11 games in all comps.

Christ, this is like pulling teeth. The comparison is stupid. Leicester finished 1st with only two teams conceding less. We're currently joint top on points yet every team above 10th place have conceded less bar Watford who are with us on 13. How is our defensive performance therefore comparable which is what you implied in the first post I responded to?

Individually the defenders have done alright, in particular with the pressing game. Karius looks dodgey and there have been a couple of mistakes (Lovren at the weekend, Lucas against Leicester for example) but our main down fall is still set pieces. we always look suspect to concede from a cross..

Our mentality is simply "If you score 3, we'll score 5" but it will be hard to maintain that as even now until we get that first goal we are finding it hard to break down such defensive set ups. As soon as we get the first goal it does force the oppositions hands a bit so it makes things easier for us, however there will be games this season (United and Burnley so far) where we will be up against a well organised defence that we will struggle to break down.

At least we are now hitting some consistency and not ballsing the fixtures that we usually balls up.

Encouraging signs and along with others at the top it's making for an exciting league.
