I had a flyer on my car today supposedly from the police about complaints in the area about people parking on the street. I park on the street next to mine as the one I live on is permit parking only and the next street isn't but says access only. Technically I am a resident using the street for access to my residence (being all of a 20 second walk from where I park my car). The flyer also said it would be a final warning and a fixed penalty notice would be issued next time.

Am I in the wrong here for not paying to park on the road outside my house and parking a very short walk away where there are no signs about parking as such but only access?

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Wouldn't you be able to get a permit to park outside your own house?

I would say no you are not wrong parking a short walk away.If there are no restrictions on the road you park on then i cant see what the residents problem is.

As Silkyman says can you not get a parking permit?

It's a case the permit outside my house would cost for it where as no cost on the next road. Will post a pic of the flyer later when home

This permit thing for parking outside your own home is bollocks. They tried to introduce it in Matlock last year, and there was so much uproar that it got scrapped.

I think the flyers are fake as well.Surely the police have better things to do than worry about who is parking where especially somewhere you can legally park.Sounds like a couple of residents are just upset over people parking in front of their house. As has being said as long as you are not blocking someones drive and there are no parking restrictions in the road then you can park there.

Have you been warned before? I'm with everyone else, it's ridiculous having to pay to park outside your own home.

It's not his own home tbf, it's his student accommodation.

Well, I assume that's what he means anyway.

If the sign on the road is one of these

then I think you're committing an offence by driving down the road when you're not accessing a property on that road. Pretty difficult to enforce though, and I'm sure the police have better things to do.

The majority of residents' parking schemes are introduced because residents ask for them...

The one in Matlock was due to the amount of County Council employees who park on the roads during the week.
