So we're gonna be part owned by Russia and part by America.

What could possibly go wrong?

A chunk of club shares to be bought by some American off of the Russians, but with the Russians retaining overall control.

Not sure what it means for the future.

Strange timing for this to come out.

More to come next week, will try all my usual mates and people who know things, and see what I can garner.

So Maxim Demin has sold 25 percent to Matt Hulsizer, a Chicago based banker and trader worth $3Bn according to Forbes. He part owns Minnesota Wild NHL team. Also owns a musical / theatrical business.

He's been looking for a European football club and randomly, he's found Bournemouth.

:dk:

It means Demin gets back the majority of the money he's put into afcb over the last 5 years, yet still retains control of the club. So a good deal by him you'd think. What this new blokes sees in us, we'll have to see..

Last thing you want with a seemingly stable ownership is uncertainty/change.

I'm hoping Eddie signing a new contract just over a week ago was a way of the board showing that this won't lead to changes in our structure

Other than that God knows... I can't see us going on a massive spending spree in January, Howe has never done that before. Hopefully, as with Demin, it just sures up us enough so that we don't need to sell our best players as soon as they show promise.

Well it's confirmed.

This investment firm from Chicago with a portfolio worth $13 Billion at the last count, have purchased a 25% stake in AFCB for an undisclosed amount. The company founder Matt Hulsizer and his associate Jay Coppoletta take directorships on the board. They say they've been talking with AFCB and Maxim Demin our principle owner for the last 15 months about plans and ideas.

The same company have put around $100m into their Ice Hockey team Minnesota Wild since taking over there. I've frankly no idea about how NHL finances work and how significant that may or may not be. No details on what terms they did that or what terms may be involved here.

The stated aim is to establish AFCB in the top flight.

Yeah, us and about 30 other clubs in the country. They might be a shade late to the party on that one, for this season at least.

Yeah not a lot of detail at this time. Doesn't feel particularly good, not quite sure, impossible to make a judgement at this stage.

It's interesting that Demin created a good few million £ worth of shares in order to legally fund AFCB through FFP, at his own risk in what happened to those shares. And now those shares he created from thin air he's managed to sell on in just a couple years. Win-win for Demin.

Will they be under pressure to spend in January?

I assume that's the idea. Comes with often recited risks if it doesn't pay off.
All depends on the timescale expectations from all parties involved I guess. It would be utterly moronic to expect to survive this season given the position and circumstances we find ourselves in. I can only hope it's with a view to where we might be in 5 years or something.

I'm actually surprised that they gave Howe a new contract despite their poor run.

I know he's loved down there, but owners are generally ruthless in the big league, and with the transfer window approaching I thought he could be under a bit of pressure.

To quote one of our new American overlords:
"We're betting on the jockey as much as the horse"
I assume Eddie Howe is the jockey.

Reading up about this firm, it seems they've recently opened up an office in London and want to expand / diversify in the UK. I guess Bournemouth is fairly well connected to London (When SouthWest Trains can be arsed and the M3 isn't being dug up) and with all the publicity the club has received, i guess we bleeped on the radar.

Would just like to hear some detail sooner than later, beyond the just few paragraphs of waffle we have today.

I'd be surprised if we went mad; partly because Eddie hasn't done that before and secondly because the players of real quality aren't available in January.

But we were likely to be one of the busiest clubs in January either way to fill the gaps of our best players who have disappeared. The challenge is of course ensuring we're still in touch when January arrives.

They would face an immediate revolt. Eddie is safe even if we lose every remaining game this season (Which we could well do at this rate). Thankfully as well Maxim Demin is one of Howe's biggest supporters and I would imagine will throw his weight around if necessary to keep him in the job.

Figured I'd bump this old thread to complete this little story. The 25% stake in AFCB sold by Demin to this American group, has now been bought back by Demin, bringing the club back to being 100% his baby.

The American group have presumably made a profit, that 25% share worth more in a club now in it's 4th PL season likely to be a 5th, compared to when they first came in during our first PL season when things looked 50/50 in terms of survival. They helped us over the line those first couple of seasons, sat back for a couple of years, and now it's job done for them and they hop off our ride.

They've since bought minority stakes in Roma, Saint-Etienne...and Dundalk. So their scheming in European football continues elsewhere.

When Demin sold this minority stake, he made back much of his initial investment in the club. And ever since been able to watch the club spend enough to survive, him not having to put anything in, turning profits so far due to the silly PL money. A cushy arrangement for him.

So why Demin has chosen to dip back into his personal pockets and buy that chunk of the club back for himself is as yet unclear.

Theories range from everything between: A) He means to sell the club on and wants to reap 100% of the sale value (panic stations). Or B) the American group were happy not being very involved and just sitting on their share, whereas Demin wants to get more involved again, and wasn't going to do it unless he controlled everything as he did previously (happy days).

I haven't a clue, not much comes out of the club these days unless it's carefully curated and released via official channels or leaked via a couple of preferred journalists, and they're batting very straight on this one.

It was announced yesterday that our (Yeovil Town) owners have agreed a deal to sell a majority shareholding to American investors and it could go through this week. Putting 2+2 together i'm thinking it could be Peak6 given the timing of their sale of your shares plus the close relationship between our two clubs especially regarding Norman Hayward (the less said about him the better).

Do you think this sounds credible? If so how have Peak6 been for you and what could we expect? It sounds like they are pretty hands off and not very active.

Interesting, I know Hayward still has contacts at Bournemouth. There's still some old school club staff in various roles, who've been around since Norman's days in the 90s. Getting fewer by the year mind.

Last I heard about Norman, there was some ongoing argument between Hayward and another Yeovil director who ended up resigning and leaving the club as they couldn't work together? Norman always was stubborn, probably only gotten worse with age!

The Peak6 bunch do seem to have a very wide portfolio of sporting interests. From NHL in the 'States, to a minority stake in Roma at one end of European football. But then if they can buy out Dundalk FC, heck why not Yeovil?

Foremost I believe they are interested in land/stadium development to bring physical assets to their name. I'm guessing the business model being that they retain some hold over whatever facilities they fund. A new stadium has struggled to get off the ground here for many reasons, but a new ground was the initial intention. At Dundalk their ground needs complete redevelopment and they're looking for a new site currently. At Roma they're building a new stadium scheduled for 20-21. This is what Peak6 are interested in.

So IF it is Peak6, then there would be some kind of building development in mind for Yeovil too. Yes they are quite hands off when it comes to running a club day to day, they aren't interested in that and they rely on locals to do that for them.

Thanks, that's very interesting and would fit with what the club needs. Our ground needs serious development as the facilities are very poor and we have almost no off-field income from it.

Yes Norman (and the rest of the baord) had a disagreement with Andy Rossiter which led to him quitting as a Director. Since then he's been very vocal about the aituation at the club.

Apparently the new owners have been backing our manager during the transfer window which doesn't bode well as we need a new one of those as much as we need a new stadium! Interesting times ahead at Huish Park.
