It makes no sense at all from my point of view. Also, what happens if Pep leaves Bayern after next season and Arsenal express an interest in him taking over from Wenger? Is he bound to go City in that scenario?

Also Ancelotti is a superior manager to Guardiola. Not sure why you'd downgrade on him after a year.

There's always the chance Guardiola signs an extension at Bayern too. I think Pellegrini will stay, but if not & Ancelotti becomes an option he'd be the best option to go for

Imagine never winning a trophy for over thirty years, then sacking two managers the seasons after they won a league title. Then think about spending close to £1bn on players in under a decade and now claiming the squad is in drastic need of major surgery.

He's not the man to establish any kind of league dominance (admittedly that's a tough ask in the Premier League), I don't think he's particularly good in the transfer market, not very good tactically, and not going to deliver City European success so this is good news for everyone else - particularly in the light of all the Pep to City stuff that gets talked about every season.

City have a good side, but in the big games Pellegrini is lacking in ideas and if his players aren't at it on the day, they invariably lose. Unless he wins the title once more, he's out the door at season end.

On TFF Pellegrini was considered superior to Mourinho by most of the Spanish football neckbeards. That forum deserved to die really.

Surprising news but I'm happy about it. I like Pelligrini and am more than happy for him to carry on.

He's an animated corpse though! At least once he's out of football he'll find work as an extra in The Walking Dead!

LOL from a Club in the habit of Sacking it's managers to a series which regularly kills off it's main characters. Out of the frying pan into the fire :)

habit of sacking it's managers?

We're not exactly Chelsea or Sunderland now are we. we've had 3 managers since 2008/09. So have you.

Heart warming to see the entirety of the Etihad fanbase stay behind to give Pellegrini an emotional farewell, the bloke who won them a league title and got them further in the Champions League than anybody else before him.

I posted more pics on it in the matchday thread; utterly disgraceful; if one of Liverpool's manager's had won the Premier League recently, they'd be carried around the city on a sedan chair. Spoilt twats.

Awful club with awful fans, lets be honest the only reason they are not widely despised is people think it's hillarious that United's city rivals are competing with us.

It's actually craxy that the City squad is in that state given how much you spent on it. They pretty much need the same as what we need. We've pissed money up the wall these last few years but when you think that 2 years ago they were champions whilst we were languishing in 7th, and they've spent more money in that time whilst losing far fewer players it's astonishing.

Thinking of players who've gone past their peak in that time you've basically got Toure and Zabeletta yet over 200 million spent they look a far worse team.

Big job for Guardiola , Champions league or not.

How many City fans actually knew Pellegrini would be coming back out to give a speech? Genuine Q.

Booing the team and manager as well as walking out on them.

That young lad showed more maturity than any other person being interviewed for a fan channel ever has.

GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD
Christmas trees littering the roads in January, Sinead O’Connor singing on The Edge’s 1986 solo album and the desperation in Richard Blackwood’s voice as he failed to grasp the concept of lemon zest live on a morning TV cooking show in front of Tim Lovejoy. These are the only three things in the history of man that are sadder than Manuel Pellegrini’s leaving do, held on the pitch after Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal. Having twice blown the lead to put their Big Cup qualification in serious jeopardy, the Etihad was about a quarter full when Pellegrini took to the mic after his final home game, standing in the centre circle like a bicycle with a puncture abandoned on a nearby hillside, in front of a lonely solitary banner bearing his name and face, flapping silently in front of a near-deserted, newly-extended South Stand, blocking the view of nobody.

Already bleary-eyed, The Fiver watched intently to see what the Chilean would deliver as a parting gift to the few that didn’t have somewhere more important to be. Perhaps he would go full-Skeletor, defiantly flip the bird, drop the mic and skip down the tunnel. Or perhaps he would deliver in that snoozy atin tone, a message of thanks, of hope, of integrity. “It was not our way that we wanted to finish the season,” he Pellegrinied. “We wanted to qualify for the final of [Big Cup] and win today to qualify for the next [Big Cup]. For me, I’ve had three wonderful years, so all I can say to all the fans is thanks for all, I will never forget you, and most of all, don’t change. This team needs you and I am sure you will be a very successful team in all the competitions.”

Farewell then, fair Manuel. You were charming. You had nice hair. You were – especially in your first season in charge – pretty darn good. You were dignified in making way for Pep. But this is the EPL, the Best League In The World™: a place full of fire and brimstone where viewing figures reign supreme over substance. If your leaving do is anything to go by, you didn’t quite cut it, did you?

Better for Everton.

I agree, but Pellegrini will have a point to prove and where better to do that than at a club that has under-performed and therefore under-achieved during the course of this season

Johnny will be gutted. He claimed de Boer was nailed on. Pellegrini if it comes off is a better choice anyway.

If you wanted a manager with a more aggressive demeanor to organise a defence and counteract the softly softly "everything is awesome" Martinez approach, then I wouldn't say Pellegrini is exactly ideal. But clearly a step up on Martinez.

Where is the news source? I see nothing yet.

Everton would be punching massively over their weight if they get Pellegrini, he would be a fantastic appointment. As I said before Martinez got the axe, he's criminally underrated.

I guess everyone's forgotten the amazing job Pellegrini did with Villarreal on a measly budget. He would be a huge upgrade for Everton, I think he could get a better job elsewhere though. Just because he hasn't succeeded at the highest level with City (he arguably has considering he won the league during his tenure), doesn't mean he wouldn't be able to improve the fortunes of a mid-table side like Everton.

He made Villarreal a Champions League side, he got them to a Champions League semi-final and finished second in a league which has Barcelona and Real Madrid in it. With Villarreal. A team that only made its debut in La Liga a few seasons earlier. He also led Malaga to the Champions League for the first time in their history. Gash?

Like Ranieri and Rafa, he couldn't succeed at the biggest clubs and couldn't achieve their definitions of "success", but there is nothing to suggest he wouldn't be a fantastic appointment for Everton. The pressures at those elite clubs are far in excess of what he'd have to deal with at teams that should be challenging for the Europa League, like Villarreal and Malaga. He significantly overachieved with those clubs. Everton hasn't had a manager of his calibre in the Premiership era. His teams play sexy football too.

Martinez is a goner anyway, it was fun to watch while it lasted.

He's not going to United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, City (obviously) or Spurs. Southampton, West Ham, Stoke, Swansea, Watford all have settled/newly appointed managers, he isn't going to manage at any sides lower than those I mentioned and he supposedly said that he wants to remain in the Premier League.

Everton really isn't that far fetched.
