According to Sam Elliott from the NLP, Ady Pennock has left Forest Green.

That's exactly what you need before the play offs are just about to start.

Best me to it. In hindsight, it's terrible timing though with FGR's current form, I've a feeling it'll have a galvanising effect.

Now official.

Forest Green Rovers have made the “difficult decision” to part company with manager Ady Pennock ahead of the National League play offs after a run of seven games without a win.

Despite finishing the regular season in second place, Rovers missed out on automatic promotion after recording just one win during the final two months of the season leading up to Saturday’s remaining fixture against Dover Athletic.

Forest Green Rovers chairman Dale Vince said: “it was a difficult decision just a week out from the play-offs after Ady had taken us to our highest placed finish in the National League.

“However, as a club we felt we needed to make this change, in order to give us the best chance of succeeding in the play offs.

“We thank Ady for his efforts while at the club and wish him well in the future.”

Forest Green Rovers Academy manager and former 1st team captain Scott Bartlett will take over as caretaker manager.

Pennock joined Forest Green inNovember 2013, replacing previous manager David Hockaday who had been at TheNew Lawn for over four years.

He guided FGR to a 5th placed finish last season, before losing 1-0 and 2-0 in the play off semi finals against eventual promotion winners Bristol Rovers.

FGR going down the Sheffield United route of 3 or 4 years back of sacking the manager just before the PO's to get a 'honeymoon period' from the team.

Weird that he stuck by Hockaday for so long on a bigger budget, with less 'success'.

Burr to FGR.

Incredibly harsh - they could have let him have a stab at the play-offs

I badly wanted them to lose in the play offs and this has only made that feeling intensify. I hope they lose heavily to Braintree or whoever they face in the play offs. Piss off Vince!

Wait this isn't a joke? You lead a team to their best finish ever if I'm right and you're rewarded with the sack just one game before the playoffs what a ridiculous decision.

Great decision, pennock lost the dressing room the players had no faith in him whatsoever, fans had no faith either, I fell this might be the risk we need to take to actually do it now! Far more confident for the play offs.

Scott barlett already has a 100% record as fgr manager ;)

Can sort of see the logic, in that he wouldn't have got any more out of the players in the play-offs and there's the spectre of a no-show like against Bristol last year.

Are you Dale Vince?

Embarrassing in all honesty. Is this what football has come to nowadays? Shameful.

Countless non league clubs would swap places with FGR at the click of a finger. Dale Vince is clearly a ungrateful c***.

If it's an FGR vs Grimsby play-off final, I'm backing the Codheads.

They haven't won in 7 games and are still comfortably ahead of 3rd - form going into the play offs isn't relevant. If the players can't get themselves up for a play-off match because they have an issue with the manager then it is them who should be sacked not Pennock

Somewhat ironic that it seems the loss to Halifax, guided by former Rovers manager Jim Harvey, was the last straw for Dale Vince. The best football I have seen played by Rovers was largely during the reign of Harvey, who knows what he might have achieved with the current squad, maybe Vince overheard the fans musing over precisely that point. The atmosphere on Saturday, despite a pretty healthy crowd, was a bit like a morgue on a Bank Holiday. There is no doubt that this is a risk but I am now far more optimistic that Scotty can motivate the players and take us up to the Football League.

Bizarre decision. However...

They were utter turd against us last year, and their recent form has been dreadful. That all started when Pennock started throwing his toys out of the pram when they dropped points against okay opposition (Wrexham at home?) and its escalated. I don't think they had a chance in the POs personally.

Maybe now they just about have a chance, although newly appointed, inexperienced caretaker for the POs doesn't scream success.

The more and more I think about it, I reckon Dover are going to do it this year. (Although I want the Mariners to win the POs)

There will be a lot after that job. Steve King, Richard Hill, Steve Burr...

^ A bit embarrassing from a moderator. Obviously if any of us said that we'd get warned or worse, EXPELLED.

I wish Dale Vince was the admin of this forum. He'd know who to get rid of. :ds:
