Was out tonight so missed the game until the last 5 minutes, glad we got a win but by sounds of things we could have been out of sight in the first 10 mins alone, hope it doesn't come back to bite us on Sunday

Grimsby are dodgy at home sometimes, wouldn't say it's necessarily over just yet. Bet Hurst sets up for a 0-0.

I did like Grimsby before I heard that bloody drum!!! ARGH!
Try sitting 2 rows in front of it.
We should have been at least 2 goals up within the first 10 minutes there really and Ollie should have scored that.
Both of Arnold's goals were brilliant as well. A good display by Grimsby but we could have done a lot better. Disley, Pearson and Arnold were the key for us tonight. Looking forward to Sunday now.

Just 2700 Eastleigh fans turn up for the biggest game in their 'history'. Maybe they should have laid on free coaches from St. Marys.
Obviously playing us at home is a bigger draw!

Having your all time attendance record for the visit of Micky mouse Macclesfield is thoroughly deserving of a place on the tinpot thread!

Wouldn't say we are dodgy at home, yes our record wasn't brilliant but it was still 7th best with the other 5 of the top 6 better than us at home. However it was probably the difference between finishing top and 3rd, but we have enough about us to win at home, especially when teams come and play to win as Eastleigh will have to do.

I'd take a 0-0 right now, but I doubt we will set up for a 0-0, it will probably be the same team again baring any injuries.

It had a hole in it by the end, did you smash it over his head fishy?

Well then. At half time I said to myself "even if we concede here, we'll get another back. This lot isn't like the rest. This lot can do it". Their goal went in and I couldn't help but think "typical, typical Grimsby. Rue missed chances before a pathetic lapse in defence lets us down, once again." It crossed my mind but I remembered what I told myself at half time. This lot don't just have the belief previous squads lacked but they also have the sort of luck you need to succeed.

Quality goals by Arnold. Life would be infinitely easier come Sunday should we have had a two goal cushion, but we can't sit here wishing our chances had gone in when Eastleigh had just as many decent chances. Pearson and Arnold were excellent, Disley not far behind. Palmer apart from his one glorious chance wasn't really in it and the back four was extremely flat, which was to be expected when we had Toto on the right.

All in all the win is extremely important considering how we've been barking on about how much better we are away from home. Knowing a draw on Sunday will take us to the final is a bit of a boost, I just pray it doesn't make us set up negatively as Eastleigh are very good going forward.

Richard Hill blasting his own player on the bench for 5 minutes and telling him to fuck off to the dressing room might actually have been the highlight of the night.

We are dodgy at home. I'm fully with MD on that.

Pearson was class tonight. Toto fucked up for their goal on a corner, which was surprising. Was expecting Eastleigh to exploit him being out of position much more. With regards to our attacking, too many long balls up to Palmer and LJL. Admittedly, the Eastleigh defence seemed to sit deep in the first half, but it just didn't work in the second half when they stepped up. If we're gonna go down that route, then it's worth playing Hannah who is more likely to win a loose ball and put a one on one away. Palmer looked off the pace, for me. Can't be relying on moments of genius like the Arnold second goal, which was brilliant. Mackreth was also quiet, despite the Eastleigh midfield not looking great in the first half. Would have liked to have seen more distribution making it's way over to him. However, a decent result. Flitney's save against LJL was a big moment, in terms of setting up the second leg. All to play for, but we've done what we've failed to do for the last two seasons and win a playoff first leg so I'm more than pleased. I think with our home record vs their way record, this one is a more open tie than Brizzle/FGR.

Disappointing game for Eastleigh, but good to watch as a 'semi' neutral. Grimsby deserved the win, and dominated much of the game. They held the ball better than Eastleigh, but Eastleigh looked dangerous on the break in the second half. Thought Eastleigh were unlucky not to equalise just before the end, but Grimsby probably had more close misses throughout. Both Grimsby goals were excellent.

Grimsby contingent large and noisy, although the flare was a bit childish. If they'd provided free travel, they could have filled the stand. Despite all this, I think either team would struggle in L2 next season.

The club must surely be disappointed by the low number of home fans. As someone said...2,700 for what must be one of the biggest games in the club's history. Not like there was a lot on the TV either :bl:

We have only have two players contracted for next season, so should we go up we'll have a decent budget and will be able to rebuild while probably having the luxury of being able to offer our best players improved deals. The current squad would definitely struggle though, I agree.

You might struggle to keep Arnold and Pearson. Are the playing budgets that much bigger in L2 than in the Conference?

They got 4000 Saturday.........

....when Southampton were playing at home too. So there goes the theory from some that there are loads of Saints fans filling the sheds and small green seats at Silverlake. Eastleigh get more when their games clash with Southampton's. Maybe it's Cherries fans come to look at how to do tinpot with real flair.

I think it's about the same mainly due to ffp not being applicable in the conference although I have read that Mansfield have quite significantly reduced their budget following promotion .

Sadly Arnold is not ours to keep, on season long loan from Cambridge Utd.

Pearson should have gone elsewhere earlier than now, so I won't begrudge him a move. If we went up though, I'd like to think it would take a L1 club to tempt him away. We shouldn't be losing players to L2 rivals if we go up. We won't have a massively improved budget, but we'll have a bit more income than we have down here of which we'll see some benefit with regards to wages. Arnold scored two great goals tonight and he has shone at sporadic times this season, but he's certainly not pivotal to our side. I'm not saying the improved offers we would be able to offer the likes of Pearson, Mackreth, McKeown and Magnay would necessarily keep them with us but at least this would be an option that hasn't been as readily available over the past few seasons.

Good luck anyway.
Obviously want Eastleigh to beat you Sunday, but you looked stronger tonight. Similar story with Wolves....would love us to get in the play-offs but I've watched us play all of the teams above us this season. They are all better teams.

Just got in from 12 hours flying to see this! Kind of glad I didn't have to deal with the nerves today, sounds like we put in a perfornance that has become synonymous with us this season. Miss a hat full of chances but have the grit we didn't used to to still put it to bed!

I hope and pray Hurst doesn't set up for a draw, that'd be absolute suicide IMO.

Hurst said in the radio post match interview that he will treat the next game as if we are still 0-0 so will set up to win.

I'd be surprised if its not the same side though by the sounds of things Palmer was quiet again as he has been for his last few games despite getting a rest so maybe Hannah or Pittmam will replace him, and maybe Clay will replace Brown, can't see any more changes than that.

Well that was a long day, but well worth it. Held up twice in traffic on the M1, then again in the Oxford area and yet again on the M3 and around the ground, We did finally get there for 6:45 and managed to get to the nearby Trojans Rugby Club for a couple of well earned pints. We got home at 4am and up again now for work at 8.

We should have been out of sight in the first 10 minutes and I hope we don't live to rue those missed chances as our home form is decidedly average. Two brilliant strikes by Arnold, I was right behind the 2nd goal and it was in the minute it left his boot. Bar their goal I thought we defended really well and Shaun Pearson was immense again.

Anyway, need to finish the job off on Sunday now.

Britain is supposed to be a nation that loves the under dogs, so the overwhelming congratulations bestowed on the real clubs from all and sundry tells you exactly what real football fans think of clubs like Eastleigh and Forest Green. Let's have no slips up now on Sunday, finish the job please. :bdick:

Fair play to Grimsby, better side on the night and could have been out of sight within 8 mins. However, we clung on and grew into the game before equalising. 2 wonder strikes from their lad, and surely he cant do that again on Sunday. We are much better away from home and there is only 1 goal in it, so plenty in this game still. If we score first, it will pile the pressure on Grimsby and then anything can happen. If Grimsby score first, its probably game over, and if that happens then fair play to them, but i am certain we will score, so who knows..
By far the best side i have seen in this division over 3 games. Having lost all 3 games, the law of averages says Sunday will go our way...
Decent away fans, although letting off a flare at KO wasn't particularly great.

It was when we scored when the idiots let off 2 flares. Seeing that you were playing in blue I thought it was a bit stupid to chuck a blue flare on the pitch and they also let off a red flare which was just to the right hand side of where I was stood. We did have a bit of a problem with flares really early on in the season but since about October it's all been fine up until last night.
