Yip, i do get all those arguments against clubs like mine, and the citing of other clubs who are of a similar mould to us makes people think it will happen to every "newer" club trying to get to the FL. I'm not saying we will never go pop in the next 20-50 years, but even the biggest clubs can go pop just as fast. Look at Pompey, who even in L2 get 18,000 a game, but are still in the shit financially and are going to be in L2 for years yet. The likes of Bristol Rovers et al, are in this league because they have been poorly run and managed. Its not because their crowds are not big enough to sustain league football, because clearly their 6k-8k per home game is better than a lot of L2 clubs, so the crowd thing is a bit of a red herring, especially if a club is doing so much more to generate revenue than just depend on its fortnightly fan base to boost the top line. Its not just a one man show at EFC either, sure the main man is loaded & its him that has the vision, the contacts and the entrepreneurial skills to move us forward, but i believe we have another 10+ multi-millionaires who are either sponsoring or involved in some way. So if you don't mind, us EFC fans will enjoy what is happening and will get right behind our team and our owner, because i've no doubt you would all do the same if it were happening at your club. Failing that, you could all go back to supporting Man Utd again..

Only a Tin Potter would say this. People who support real clubs don't support anybody else. If you weren't a Tin Potter you would know this. :dk:

Why would you, we don't?

We've had attendances this season when including away fans that have been less than STH's we've had. I do think most clubs do it though, which I find unfortunate.

Fair enough, I have no idea if we do it specifically - it was my understanding from a BBC article a few years ago when Man City were announcing capacity crowds with thousands of empty blue seats.

James Constable was sold a vision. A vision that gave him a 2 year deal with an option for another year whilst EFC hoped to climb a division, maybe two. Sure there were others clubs after him and in a higher division, but they only offered him 1 year deals. The money that we pay him, is somewhere in the region of £400 a week higher that what we would have had to pay "another" run of the mill striker in this league. So given he has hit 20 goals for us this year and is now used to the club and enjoying his football again, i would say that was an extra £400 well spent. He has also rarely been injured, so is worth a lot more than a run of the mill or a striker who thinks he is better than he is, but is injured and suspended for 2 months each season. With all the TV money and the extra play off games, plus the unexpected large attendances we have had this year, we have recouped his "extra" salary 10 fold. You see its all about vision. Not just taking an average Conf Prem striker, to do an average Conf prem job.... So now tell me Akinde is only on £300 a week. You Barnet fans haven't a clue what goes on at your club. Akinde cost you £250k cash to transfer to you in the first place, now who's the big spenders.Show me another club at this level who is doing anything like that!?

I remember Rodney Jack being sold a 'vision' by Rushden as soon as we gained promotion to the Championship, the vision lasted mere months before the money went, he was binned and never played in the second tier again.

Believe Constable is on £1800 a week according to my Oxford supporting friend I speak to, way above the average wage for a League Two player let alone Conference, and that's excluding goal bonuses! He says Oxford could only offer £800 a week. If that's true Eastleigh are paying £200 a week more than our highest paid player.

Never mind that, the real question is whether Eastleigh Fan is the re-incarnated version of Holness, the Crawley fan from TFF?

Close, i'll give you that. Is £200 a week more, really that much?
For every JC, we have a young lad on £100 a week who just makes up the squad numbers. We have a small squad, so can afford to pay the higher earners that little bit more.
I can tell you now, Akinde is on more than JC and thats a fact that no doubt will be denied by the Barnet faithfall.

The thing about facts are that they are so easy to back up, what with them being facts. Opinions are harder, as well, they are just opinions. So I'll look forward to you providing the evidence to support this. Us, Barnet faithful, I'm sure can't deny or support it, as we won't be in a position to know, but we'll look forward to finding out definitively once you show us.

I can't show you what my sources tell me George, its a verbal agreement you see. A bit like the other lad cant show me that JC is on £1800 a week, its just that someone he trusts told him. so he believes it. Thats how it works you see. Some people are in the know, some aren't. I guess you aren't.
But you can check with the player himself. You do talk to your own players don't you? Or do you just turn up and go home to watch Tottenham on MOTD.

Wasn't he out of contract at Alfreton and signed as a free agent? Well that certainly blows his "250k transfer fee" argument clean out of the water.

Not long to go now, nerves are starting to kick in a bit. Really hope we can actually turn up when on TV for a change, or record on BT is woeful.

Just in case any Gas fans have missed this, here's some key info about the arrangements tonight.

For HOME supporters only, The New Lawn’s on-site pub – The Green Man – and the Carole Embrey suite in the East Stand will open for food and drink from 4pm.

For AWAY supporters only, a bar will be available in a marquee behind the North Stand serving beer, larger, cider, lemonade, juice, water and snacks – from 4pm - 7:15pm – capacity is 490.

Turnstiles will open at 6.15pm, so home fans can also utilise the canteen in the East Stand and the Devils Kitchen canteen in the southern EESI Stand.

Away turnstiles will also open at 6.15pm, so Gas fans can access the North Stand canteen.

With the added presence of BT Sport trucks, players families, extra media and added staff, parking at The New Lawn will be closed to fans that are not on the pre-booked parking list. In addition, there will be 'Parking and Waiting Restrictions ' being enforced on Nympsfield Road running up the hill from Nailsworth from 12noon on Wednesday – so fans from both clubs are urged to utilise the 'Park-n-Ride'.

The 'Park-n-Ride' services will run buses at least every 20mins from:

  • Renishaw's car park on the A46 (between Stroud and Nailsworth) – accessed via the entrance opposite Regency car dealership – for fans coming from the direction of the M5.
  • Wyevale Garden Centre car park on the B4014 – for fans coming from the direction of the M4.
Both 'Park and Ride' options will cost £4 per car (CASH ONLY), which is the normal price for parking at FGR games and any profits will be donated to Nailsworth Primary School.

Top setup that in fairness, especially with the short notice.

Yes he was on a free. I reckon he's on a good wage, as are a few of our squad, but I wouldn't pretend to know what that is.

It will be a reasonable wedge I would have thought but like you say I wouldn't know what it was.

I don't imagine his demands are that ridiculous though. It was well rumoured on our forum that he'd signed in principle for us but we tore it up, as you'd offered him full time football and less of a location shift and we wouldn't stand in his way. Could be shite mind :D

Oh how different things could have been...

On a free....absolutely hilarious. Its really hard for me to believe that you haven't a clue whats gone on in that deal.
Really really naive, mate.

He had a one-year contract with Alfreton, and when that expired he was free to join another club? Do you understand the concept of "A Free Transfer" and you're just taking the piss or are you genuinely clueless? Fees are only paid when a player is the property of a club, and given that this contract had expired he no longer was. He was probably paid a sizeable wage, but not too dissimilar to some of your players I would imagine, and it's certainly paid off with the financial benefits of making the Football League (he has been crucial in their title-winning campaign this year).

And the fact that you decided to invent a figure as well :ffs:

Location would certainly have been a driving force behind it. Pretty sure he was still traveling up to play for Alfreton, but DSL might know whether that was the case. As you say, if he had signed for you, instead of us, we wouldn't be where we are and you would have at least made the play-offs.

Fucking hilarious you clueless chap.
Go ask the Barnet board how they got Alfreton to agree to Akinde moving between the two clubs.
You really really are so naive if you think clubs play by the FA Transfer guidelines. £250,000 & a sell on deal to boot.

The vision being a 2 year deal instead of a one year deal. The deal involving large amounts of cash. I didn't think you could top your earlier post for comedy but you've done it. Keep them coming this is hilarious. :bdick:

I was going to say, being lectured by an Eastleigh fan on finances is akin to taking guidance from Robert Mugabe on how to run a democracy.

A mansion can't last on a foundation of sand - that is all.

I wouldn't even mind that much seeing Eastleigh come up. It's somewhere new and I doubt they'd be there for long. Same for Forest Green. Grimsby have probably 'done their time' but it is quite far. Rovers can come back once they get their new stadium as I don't want to have to stand in that away end again.

Good luck to you all :2thumb:

I'm so happy that Eastleigh Fan has set us all right about how football works. If anyone wants to sign any of our out-of-contract players, then that'll be £250,000 please.

My favourite part is that he lectured earlier on how Constable came for free out of contract. But later says everyone else is naive for assuming Akinde went for free and that clubs don't do that. But hey, we're not all in the Barnet boardroom.

If nothing else, I've had a giggle and avoided my dissertation for a while :)
