LB Ward decent left foot looks tired after 60 minutes though 6/10

Cm Earing shows some nice touches and has decent vision 7/10
Cm Osadebe woeful so far this season gets caught in possession in dangerous areas.3/10
RW Shade looks very good only played one full game and been injured since 8/10
LW Kiernan not impressed so far downgrade on McDonald 5/10
RCF C.F. Wilkinson another I like has bags of ability needs more support up top.8/10

[Bottega Don]

We've actually not been totally horrific in our first few games so this will be nicer than I expected.

GK: Rory Watson 7/10 - Much better than last season so far, can easily change knowing him.

RB: Jai Rowe - 5/10 - Only started twice, looked poor at Walsall away but solid against Tranmere.
CB: Harry Davis - 8/10 - Seemed to have transformed our woeful defense as part of a back 3, really impressive so far.
CB: Manny Onariase 7/10 - Also been fantastic at the back so far, was solid last year but injury prone.
CB: George Taft 6/10 - The worst of the back three but not been terrible.
LB: Lewis Thompson 9/10 - Been our best player so far this season, a really asset in our 3-5-2 that we play.

CM/RB: Tom Pugh 6/10 - Not sure what his best position is, looked solid enough for a player playing his first few professional games.
CM: Alfie Beestin 5/10 - Underwhelming, has a lot of ability but seems to ghost in and out of games too much.
CM: Alex Perry 5/10 - Another player with a lot of technical ability but goes missing too much.
CM: Myles Hippolyte 7/10 - One of our worst players last season playing LM, much improved as part of a midfield 3.

CAM/ST - Devarn Green 6/10 - Flatters to deceive really, doesn't do as much as he should with his ability.
CAM - Harry Bunn 7/10 - Looked impressive until he got injured, will be important to get him back fit.

ST - Ryan Loft, Jake Scrimshaw and Aaron Jarvis have all only played one game up front each due to our injury carousel so hard to rate them.

 

[AR27]

GK: Richard O’Donnell -6- been fine but knocked a point off for that howler at Orient last week.

RB: Finn Cousin-Dawson -6- young lad being targeted every week but has generally coped well. Rewarded with a Northern Ireland u21 callup this week.
CB: Paudie O’Connor -6- largely been solid but we've conceded too many goals as a team to give any defender above a 6.
CB: Niall Canavan -6- as above.
LB: Liam Ridehalgh -6- like him going forwards but suspect defensively.

DM: Yann Songo’o -5- disappointed so far from his two starts. Doesn't look properly match fit after returning from injury.
DM: Elliot Watt -6- would've been a 7 based on the first three games but been sloppy in the last couple.
DM: Levi Sutton -7- only played twice before getting injured but was an important part of how we played, particularly off the ball.
DM: Gareth Evans -5- better than he was last year but still not good enough.

RW: Alex Gilliead -6- fantastic until it comes to shooting or crossing.
AM: Callum Cooke -8- superb and everything goes through him.
LW: Charles Vernam -7- beats a fullback for fun but needs to work on that end product.
LW: Lee Angol -7- surprise performer until his injury. His finishing was woeful but rest of his game very good.

ST: Andy Cook -8- 4 goals so far and always looks a threat. We are screwed if he gets injured.

Crankshaw, Eisa, Lavery and Threlkeld not played enough to score.

 

[Moomin]

My take on ECFC:

GK Cameron Dawson: Best ‘keeper I’ve seen for some time, wonderful shot stopper and good with his feet. Sadly he’s only on loan for Sheff Wed so chances of keeping him are slim. 9/10

RWB: Josh Key: So pleased we kept him with Sunderland sniffing around. Quick and getting better technically 8/10

LWB: Jack Sparkes: looked good for the first couple of games but then broke his collar bone so is out for a while 6.5/10

CBs:
George Ray: been pleasantly surprised. Wins loads in the air and strong tackler and is a good character. Decent signing 7/10
Pierce Sweeney: So pleased he’s come back. Looks much fitter and gives us balance on the right 7/10
Alex Hartridge: Had COVID but since coming back in looks very good and is getting better all the time. He’ll go far 7/10
Jonathan Grounds: Seems to be made a scapegoat already after being sent off and missing a penalty in a shootout. Saw him once and he did ok but he’ll be backup now 6/10

CMs:
Tim Dieng: Another nice surprise. Keeps it simple and has a good engine. Like him 7/10
Harry Kite: Latest academy player to break in to the team. Similar to Dieng, does the simple stuff well and gets stuck in. 7.5/10
Nige Atangana: Never fit long enough and won’t get in now we’ve signed Kyle Taylor and Archie Collins is on his way back. 5/10

CAMs
Jevani Brown: Yet another nice surprise! We were told he was lazy and shit but so far he’s been excellent. Links the play really well and creates chances. Hope he keeps it up 7.5/10
Matt Jay: He was made captain and had a slow start but is back on form now. Expect him to get another 20 goals this season 8/10

Strikers
Sam Nombe: he’s our record signing and has all the attributes to be a top player, but is still raw. Also he had COVID so it’s been a stop start season. Think he will come good though 6.5/10
Padraig Amond: Like what I’ve seen. He’s a clever player and has good movement. Just needs a goal. 6.5/10
Ben Seymour: Not good enough, needs to be moved on 5/10

Overall, other than a shit show against Orient we’ve looked decent and got players to come back too. Solid start.

 

[Agombar stool]

Gk: Jojo Wollacott. Superb so far, great with ball in hand and at feet, good shot stopper and can claim crosses. Faultless so far and 3 clean sheets so has to be top marks. 10/10

CB: Dion Conroy. Has his confidence back after horrible injuries. Brilliant playmaking centre back and forming a lovely partnership with Crichlow. 9/10:

CB: Romoney Crichlow. The on loan centre back is less classy than Dion but has done well so far. Scored against Carlisle. Raw but decent enough for league 2. 7/10.

CB: Akin Odimayo. He's been ok. 6/10

LWB: Rob Hunt. Not really a left back but never let's the side down. Can't really remember much he's done. 7/10.

RWB: Kaine Kesler. Started the season in flying form up at Scunthorpe winning a penalty but then got sent off against Carlisle and had half a good game against Mansfield. Too early to tell but looks a talent. 6.5/10

DM: Anthony Grant. Caught in possession too much for my liking. Think he'll be replaced by Lyden if he ever gets fit. 5/10

DM: Louis Reed. Getting better and better with each game. 7/10

CM: Jack Payne. Makes the side tick, provides huge energy in the side. 2 goals contributed. 9/10

CM: Ben Gladwin. An enigma that makes the game look very easy. That said at times he seems to want an absolute age on the ball which can frustrate. Scored at Scunny but still doesn't look match fit. 6.5/10

ST: Tyrese Simpson. The big striker on loan from Ipswich broke his goalscoring duck on Saturday with a lovely finish. Works very hard in a lone furrow. 8/10

Subs.

Ellis Iandolo. Utility player that never let's the side down wherever he plays. 6/10

Harry McKirdy. Scored on his debut at Scunny. Always puts in a shift and has been a bit unlucky not to have more goals under his belt. Very useful to bring off the bench. 7/10

Jonny Williams. Hasn't had many minutes but came off the bench against Mansfield and created a fantastic assist. Played 63 minutes for Wales earlier so more minutes in the tank.

Keepers

• Lucas Covolan - Hard one as he has overall been pretty decent just seems to have a moment of madness at some random point of the game. He's fun to watch if somewhat heart in mouth occasionally. Kept three clean sheets in five though so must be doing something right - 7/10
• Aidan Stone - Only played in the cups. Looks like wouldn't be bricking it if or when he's called upon - 6/10

Wingbacks

• David Worrall - Always works hard but it's not his ideal position. Shown signs of getting back to his best 2nd half at Stevenage and against FGR though - 6/10
• Dan Jones - Been probably the find of the summer for us. Long throw is an obvious weapon but he is also a lot more than that. Equally slots in at LCB - 9/10
• Mal Benning - Has been slow to get up to speed due to fitness but feel he is getting there now. One sublime bit of skill against Bolton yesterday which sent their player flying - 6/10

Centrebacks

• Leon Legge - Thought he was going to a bit part player with his age etc but been a rock in all games he's played this season but unfortunately injured now - 7/10
• Nathan Smith - Another who seemed a little off the pace to start but seems to be getting back to his best now - 6/10
• Lewis Cass - Fleeting appearances so far but what have seen he looks a proper footballer either at CB or WB - 7/10
• Ryan Johnson - Not quite looked up to it so far. Think he struggles to read the game in front of him so needs a good organiser next to him to get the best out of him I feel - 4/10
• Aaron Martin - Just solid, going to be a good player for us I reckon - 7/10

Midfielders

• Brad Walker - One of those players who does a lot of unseen work and you only notice how important it is if he isn't there - 7/10
• Tom Pett - Done a decent job, good all round footballer and with Conlon back now I think he'll flourish - 7/10
• Ben Garrity - A real bonus for us given initial reviews from Oldham weren't flattering. He changed the game for us at Stevenage and it was his hard work that got us the second goal at FGR - 8/10

Forwards

• Devante Rodney - Been disappointing so far. Frustrating as he has the raw ability to play a couple of divisions higher but has no awareness of what's around him - 5/10
• James Wilson - Not scored yet so have to mark down for that but he has some serious quality in terms of his first touch and vision. The layoff for Proctor's first at FGR was not something many players at this level would have the intelligence to do - 6/10
• Jamie Proctor - Been excellent and for me is now our established frontman - 8/10
• David Amoo - DC now considers him a forward rather than winger, looked sharp when called on - 6/10

Jake Taylor, James Gibbons and Tom Conlon not played enough due to injury to really rate them so far. Politic yet to feature either.

For Port Vale:

Goalkeepers-

Lucas Covolan - Bonkers Brazilian who morphs into trying to be Roberto Carlos usually screwing up! Two reds one in a league tie cost us but 3 clean sheets isn’t too shabby and seems to be learning! 6/10

Aidan Stone - Has been a solid back up, made a couple of appearances and looked solid enough. 6/10

Defenders -

James Gibbons - Injured

Leon Legge - got back in the side and looked a rock against Tranmere and Carlisle but sadly out for 2-3 months with an injury against Stevenage 7/10

Nathan Smith - Solid as usual. 6/10

Ryan Johnson - struggled and teams have targeted his lack of pace, give him time as he’s new to this level but needs big improvement 4/10

Aaron Martin - Has been relatively decent, haven’t overly noticed him which as a centre half is a good thing I guess 6/10

Lewis Cass - only played twice but on both occasions has looked very good indeed, yesterday he was at centre back and was busting through on long runs, good on the ball. Should be a good player over the season. 7/10

Dan Jones - absolutely massive throw in! Good on the ball, been a very good signing so far. 7.5/10

Mal Benning - struggled at first. In fact didn’t look very fit but is improved the past couple of games, seems to be gain confidence (summed up by sending Isgrove to the burger van last night with a lovely piece of skill). 6/10

Midfielders

Tom Conlon - sadly injured for most of the season so far but put in a good performance and scored on his full return yesterday 6/10

David Worrall - reliable, struggled with the system but we’ve tweaked it and back to his usual self 6.5/10

Tom Pett - decent on the ball, keeps the ball moving and should link up with Conlon well 6.5/10

Brad Walker - looks a good acquisition, more strength than Joyce who he has replaced and been ok with the ball. 6.5/10

Ben Garrity - real surprise package so far, like a dog with a bone, just runs and has a great engine, carries the ball well and from being signed as a back up now looks to be a mainstay. 7/10

Jake Taylor - Injured

Alex Hurst - not featured yet.

Dennis Politic - not featured yet.

David Amoo - mixing between midfield and striker has mainly been a sub and generally had a good impact, scored a goal 6.5/10

Strikers

James Wilson - looks to have real quality and great movement but needs a goal big time. 6/10

Jamie Proctor - top scorer despite less game time, good brace last weekend adding to his goal against Sunderland and looks fit and a real good hold up presence 7/10

Devante Rodney - frustrating as is usually the case with Dave. On his day unplayable but seems to be off form a bit. Maybe carrying a knock as doesn’t seem to be getting the after burners on. 5.5/10

GK: Lawrence Vigouroux - Bit below his usual standards but he’s simply a very good keeper at this level. Better to come. 7

RB: Tom James - Had a terrible game against Harrogate, but then so did everyone else. Definite upgrade over Daddy’s Little Soldier. 6

LB: Connor Wood - Alleged consternation with KJ saw him dropped for two games. Decent when he has played, though. 5

CB: Omar Beckles - As advertised. Two goals and comfortably better than the forwards he’s facing. 8

CB: Dan Happe - Vastly overrated and continuing last season’s comically poor form. Much improvement needed if he wants to stick around. Now injured. 2

CB/LB: Shad Ogie - Okay at left back in a couple of games, but stepped into CB for Saturday’s game 5 minutes before kick off and absolutely monstered Andy Cook. 8

DMC: Darren Pratley - Uncompromising, physical, shithousing leadership. Invaluable already. 7.5

MC: Craig Clay - We’ve had ‘good Craig’ so far. ‘Bad Craig’ is invariably just around the corner. 6

MC: Hector Kyprianou - Great to see him starting. Plenty of potential but having the hiccups every young player suffers as they’re learning. Hope we stick with him. 5.5

AM: Dan Kemp - Fucking awful so far. KJ hasn’t been using him as a #10 which is the only thing he’s good at. 3

AM: Theo Archibald - Lincoln must have some special wide players if they can afford to loan this fella out. Boy is absolute class. 9

FC: Aaron Drinan - Couple of goals and bags of effort. Can see why Ipswich didn’t want him as the quality isn’t always there but he’ll do for us. 7.5

FC: Ruel Sotiriou - In and out the side. Absolute screamer against Bradford which will hopefully get his confidence going again. 6.5

SC: Harry Smith. Quite refined for a blunt instrument. Crowd favourite already. Missed a penno, mind. 7

I probably agree with those ratings apart from Pugh. That guy isnt good enough to play professionaly. Not sure about Bunn either. Happy with our start though. If we can get into midfield mediocrity then its a cracking season

Hutton is probably my favourite of the new guys - loves taking full backs on and has a hell of a cross on him.

AM: Theo Archibald - Lincoln must have some special wide players if they can afford to loan this fella out. Boy is absolute class. 9

We did last season - he was well, well short of the level required (not just the two now Championship, PL linked wingers we had but L1 level full stop).

Perhaps slightly different this season in terms of our wide options but MA wasn't overly enamoured with his training levels. We tried, and failed, with bringing a couple of wide players in, in the summer (one fell through at 10.50pm on deadline day) so ironically enough he'd probably have a place on the bench so far this season.

Glad he's doing well though, he seems like someone who just wants to settle down somewhere, anywhere, and play football.

Agree with most of those, 7.5 for Pratley is far too high though, he was anonymous against Carlisle and Harrogate, 6 for me.

If Pratley gets 7.5, surely Hector gets more than 5.5, he's been very solid.

2 for Happe harsh too. Comfortable 5 for me. He's one of our weaker links but 2 is madness.

 

[Chris FGR]

With our fast start there are a lot of players who’ve impressed, especially going forward.

GK Luke McGee - 8 Occasional mistake but overall has made some great saves and often busy as our defence seems to leak chances like a sieve.

GK Lewis Thomas - 9 Only played cup games but has been brilliant, was the hero v Bristol City and made some great stops at Brentford too.

CB Dom Bernard - 7.5 Mr reliable (off day v Vale excepted) can play anywhere in defence always up for the battle and is becoming a bit of a leader.

CB Udoka Godwin-Malife - 6.5 Started the season pretty well although not quite at his best, but broke his collarbone at Rochdale. A big miss.

CB/M Dan Sweeney - 7 Been good overall, strong in the air good on the ball but occasionally caught out by balls in behind.

CB Bailey Cargill - 6.5 Solid enough, been in and out of the team, good going forward and in 1 on 1 defending but has been caught out of position a few times.

CB Jordan Moore-Taylor - 7 Again been in and out, but when he plays he’s pretty solid and calm and composed, capable of some great passes out from the back.

RWB Kane Wilson - 8 Excellent going forward (which is most of the time), can beat players with ease and his crossing seems to have improved.

LWB Nicky Cadden - 9 Possibly the best left wing back in the league, great crosser and is adding goals to his game, even got a hat trick v Crawley. Would be amazed if we don’t get any offers in January.

RW/M Taylor Allen - 5 Unlucky in that his only league start was out of position replacing Cadden but had a bit of a mare. Done ok in cup games but needs to play in his best position and improve his awareness.

RWB/RW Opi Edwards - 6 Not played much, currently injured. Played pretty well in the Carabao Cup.

LB/M Jack Evans - 7 Hasn’t played much but he did play well at left wing back in the pizza cup apparently.

CM Ben Stevenson - 8 Been very good, always available a lot of play goes through him. Seems the perfect Carl Winchester replacement.

CM Regan Hendry - 8 Great on the ball although bit lightweight at times. Very decent set piece delivery. Looks a classy player.

CM Ebou Adams - 7.5 Been back to close to his best especially when playing further forward, but discipline let him down again at Brentford. Has to cut the needless red cards out if he wants to move up the leagues, which he’s capable of.

CM Sadou Diallo - 6 Not played a lot so far, when he has he’s shown flashes of ability. Bit unlucky to go off with concussion at Brentford in a rare start.

AM/ST Jack Aitchison - 6.5 Not got too much game time yet but has done reasonably well when he’s played. Scored at Brentford which is an obvious highlight.

ST Jamille Matt - 8.5 Captain, been excellent as usual (apart from against Vale) focal point and a lot goes through him. Deservedly shortlisted for L2 player of the month.

ST Matty Stevens - 8.5 Been a different player, hard to believe he was on the Stevenage bench last season. A real natural fox in the box has benefitted massively from playing alongside Matt.

ST Jake Young - 6.5 Has been decent in the limited time he’s had, got a good goal against Crawley and played well on the left wing a couple of times too.

ST Josh March - 6 Another one that hasn’t played much, did pretty well in midweek playing up front unlucky not to score. He definitely isn’t a wing back though

 

[Indian Dan]

Nobody can convince me that JoJo Wollacott isn’t, by far, the best keeper in L2.

Hope Bristol City haven’t got too big a sell on clause. This lad is going to be worth big money.

 

[Chris FGR]

Agreed, lad is absolute class. His performance for us when he kept a clean sheet at Bournemouth up against the likes of Callum Wilson, Dominic Solanke, Josh King and Ryan Fraser was probably the best performance I’ve ever seen from one of our keepers.

Agree with most of those, but I think you have been harsh on NKP who has been solid in several games. I think Watson does have opportunities to get forward in the system we are playing, but does not take them often enough: he needs to offer more.

The best players to date are probably Murphy, Davies, Cogley and Nevitt. However, Hawkes looks really promising and I think MacManaman will be a big player for us as the season progresses.

Not gonna rate each player but here is how they shape up so far...

GK: Anssi Jaakola - Ageing but one of the best L1 keepers last season and was in the Finland recent Euros squad. Has made rare mistakes this season coupled with a niggly injury currently keeping him out of the squad.
GK: James Belshaw - Not the tallest but a really good solid keeper. Has filled in for Anssi and not done much wrong. His kicking could be improved. Unofficial MOTM yesterday.
LB: Nick Anderton - New signing for this season. Not impressed so far but has been used as a left sided CB. Seems to get caught out a lot.
CB: Mark Hughes - Disappointing. Very slow, doesn't seem to jump or show any leadership. Downgrade on Max Ehmer that I didn't think was possible.
CB: Connor Taylor - 19YO Loanee from Stoke. Was given the official MOTM yesterday. Only played in the first team in the last 2 league games and looks a beast. WIns everything in the air. The odd mistake but massive potential.
CB/LB: Cian Harries - Scored a worldie in the first league game but not a player I like seeing in the team. Left footed which is probably why he is getting game-time currently.
CB: Alfie Kilgour - Looked a real prospect a few years ago alongside Tony Craig but has gone backwards since. Looked a lot steadier yesterday though so maybe getting back some form.
LWB: Trevor Clarke - Injured since first game of the season v Mansfield. Looked our best player until then.
RWB: Harry Anderson - A new fans favourite. Always looks to get on the front foot and take players on even if it doesn't always come off. Great engine.
RW/RWB: Alex Rodman - Usually plays well but is often injured. Works hard.
CM: Sam Finley - Another new fans favourite. When he plays well Bristol Rovers play well. Scored a couple of worldies already.
CM: Paul Coutts - Didn't endear himself to gasheads by getting sent off vrs Mansfield on his debut and effectively losing us the game. Still regaining fitness after a COVID layoff but hasn't impressed when on the pitch.
DCM/CB: Josh Grant - Opinions on him split the fanbase but I like him. Does the donkey work that goes unnoticed.
AM: Sam Nicholson - Our best player. Scored a couple since coming back from injury but injured yesterday after a bad challenge by the Crawley Bristolian Tsaroulla (maybe he is a City fan?). Was one of the best attacking players in L1 let alone L2, loves a mazy dribble. Contract is up next summer and we are praying he signs a new deal.
AM: Antony Evans - Recent signing, only had 1 appearance yesterday and looked composed and skilful. Set-up our winner with a great cross.
ST: Aaron Collins - Looks a good player without really getting the chances/goals. I don't think we are playing to his strengths. Subbed at H/T yesterday
ST: Harvey Saunders - Has a couple of goals already this season but also missed a few good chances. Looks like a nuisance for defenders. Played left wing back yesterday which I dont think did him any favours as he is too attack-minded.
ST - Leon Clarke - Debut goal yesterday. Held the ball up well which is something we were missing in the final 3rd.
ST - Brett Pitman - Not seen enough of him apart from a cameo v Exeter and started at Barrow. Fitness is clearly an issue
