It is a well known fact that once a team has suffered a 4-0 defeat to Hartlepool United, they have 'bottomed out' and the only way is up. Thus Pompey are facing a team on an upwards trajectory and have it all to do this Saturday.

With Plymouth and Carlisle duking it out in the West Country this looks, on paper, like the perfect opportunity to finally breach the walls of the promotion places. In truth, to our players it will more likely resemble one enormous, genetically enhanced banana skin, set to propel us once more into the moat of despair.

Hopeful we had our blip on Tuesday.

If we create as many chances tomorrow as we did then, we'll have no problems.

0-0.

No excuses for not winning this one. It's about time we made our mark on the top three.

Luckily compared to other Crewe fans I'm travelling to this from Swindon so it's not as painful a journey as it could be.

Pompey *insert goals here* Crewe 0

If we score tomorrow (own goals apart) I'll be genuinely surprised. Bowery has been great but seems to have a hex placed upon him where he just can't score despite him trying so hard to whereas the rest of the squad are completely and utterly goal-shy. Most consistent defender, best CM and best forward are all out tomorrow which means our squad is in a threadbare state. I'll go for a 3-0 loss but I just want a good performance to make up for the Hartlepool shitshow tomorrow. Lose narrowly but play well and I won't be pissed off given the quality of the opposition we're facing.

Newport at home is the must win next week. If we get shithoused by Westley again we're in deep shit.

I really don't know what result is ideal in the Plymouth game, sure Carlisle are closer and we could be ahead of them come Saturday but Plymouth aren't in great form either and we still have them at home so catching them too is possible. I'll take a scrappy 1-0 win tomorrow though,

If we manage to get the win tomorrow, I suppose a draw would be ideal in that we'd be Top 3 and gain 2 points on Plymouth too, but really I don't see any result in that game being bad for us.

The only positive I can think off is our next 2 games are away from home and if somehow we did win on Tuesday we would go 3rd.

Don't like to see fans fighting in the stands and the team get booed off at the end/as they walk round at the end but that performance today deserved it. We never looked like scoring in that second half.

Where do we go from here? It's impossible to feel confident that we can get Top 3 when we bottle it at every opportunity. Once again I was thinking pre-game that we might finally have clicked, but we flatter to deceive. The players were so complacent today - there was no urgency, in any aspect of their play. Evans was the only player to really show fight.

Literally only got back from Pompey in the last half hour, what a fucking day and win that was from start to finish.

Genuinely believe we were full value for our win and very appropriate that the best player on that pitch today scored the decisive goal. What a Lazarus-like comeback for George Ray ever since Daddy and Junior were sent packing. Glad he's getting the chance to perform, to lead and to show us fans what he's truly capable of.

It was a scrappy game but Ben Garratt was never in huge trouble all day whereas George Ray decides to leap like a salmon and fire a bullet header into the net. Took an age to realise we'd scored with us being so far away at the other end but what a win and what a day for us.

Only frustrating thing is this - We've taken 4 points from Portsmouth and 3 points from Doncaster this season yet could only muster 1 point from Cheltenham and 1 point from Hartlepool. If we sort out this habitual problem of constantly struggling against the league's poor sides then we could really be looking upwards next season.

You should never be surprised at getting a result at Fratton. One quick glance down our previous results from the past few seasons should tell you all you need to know.

Evans was far and away our best player, although Naismith also gave it a go I thought. Surely the time has come to put a full back in behind Evans and push him forward? Sheer madness.

I just don't know what to make of Eoin Doyle? Is he just not getting the service or is he just as pants as he looks? People around me were actually reminiscing about Michael Smith.

Anyway, well played Crewe. Those cunning tactics of competing for the ball and passing to your team-mates was always going to be too much for us.
