Top 6 hopes slipping away for the Vale after 1 point from their last 2 games. Another tricky game for them, this time against Barnsley. With Bradford 5 points away and probably winning at Crewe, a Barnsley win here could kill off their hopes for good. Really need a win to keep them in the hunt.

As for Barnsley, they dropped points against Scunny yesterday and for the aforementioned reasons with Bradford, they can't afford a slip up here either.

I'd imagine they'll be a fair bit of score watching of the game up the road in this one. Reckon Barnsley might sneak this, but Vale are strong at home so will make it tough for them.

All match discussion in here.

We have an awful record against Port Vale during my lifetime and will be missing a number of key players so while we really could do with winning, I would be satisfied with a point.

That's if it doesn't get called off, forecast looks horrendous.

Must win and must put Burton behind us and keep up the great home form.

Only lost once against Barnsley in the past 14-15 years so hopefully get a 2-1 win, probably be a draw though.

Draw please. Or if forced to pick a winner, please let it be Vale.

Huge error from Alnwick gifts Barnsley the lead.

Poor again. Dominated it seems but missing a striker badly. Season over.

Having seen the highlights we should of scored 2 or 3 and certainly need to address that next season. As for the goal Alnwick should do better. Smash and grab but if you don't take your chances your going to get beat.

Having average strikers has ended our chances of a playoff place. Today we had many chances to get back in the game or even win it but no quality striker to put em away. Thought the ref was poor for there goal, Barnsley took the free kick and it came to nothing and the ref let them take it again and they scored from it. That was the only real chance they had, we have never looked like getting in the playoffs with our poor away form.

Our away form has improved... Unfortunately the home form has now dropped!

To call our strikers "average" is being rather generous to them, I'd use hopeless or inept myself.
Don't know why they got to retake the freekick, but it's stll up to us to defend it properly. Instead the defence left it to the keeper and he left it to them, meaning nobody did anything.

Shoudve kept Uche to be honest, Theo Robinson has been useless and JJ Hooper isn't quite ready yet. Uche was temperamental but would of added far more than the three they've managed between them.

Theo Robinson has never been a footballer. At his best, he was only ever effective.

Just watched the missed chances and the goal, again jak should have saved the goal and i cant believe how many chances we had to win the game. Pope would have put some of those away.

The biggest worry with Theo is that when he arrived Page was claiming that he was a player we've been chasing since the summer. If that's a sign of his player spotting ability then he shouldn't be allowed to spend another penny.

What a huge 3 points for us at a very tough place to go. Absolutely delighted with that.

Thought Vale were a bit hard done by, had some good chances in the second half to draw level but we defended stoutly and should have added to our lead on the break. Not exactly smash and grab but I can see why Vale fans feel that way. One of the better sides we've faced away recently but as has been pointed out, they're a goal-scorer away from having a good side for this division.

10 away wins for the season for us, don't even think we got that the last time we were promoted from this division :ds:

In all honest fairness over the two meetings this season it probably evens out considering you missed loads in the return fixture.

All i took from yesterday was what a horrible side Barnsley are. The black Joe Garner in their ranks diving, cheating and falling over at every opportunity. The only difference is Garner is good and he is absolute gash, cheating cnut.

He nutted Duffy didn't he off the ball as the free kick was to be taken according to the radio commentary?

I wasn't watching them but everyone said he threw a punch at Duffy. The ref was getting the freekick ready and had his back to it, he spoke with the linesman then both players so I'm guessing the linesman wasn't watching either so the ref couldn't do anything but just warned both players.

In fairness, eternal bellpiece Michael Brown came on and gave him a shoeing so if Toney did throw a punch at your player, he got something back.

Edit to add Duffy got his own back later in the first half thinking about it.
