Who doesn't love Friday night football?

Well, probably not Port Vale's fans, who've had to move this game due to it clashing with Stoke's home game with Aston Villa. Not a lot of fun. Their hopes of making the play offs have dipped because, as per, as soon as they get near the top 6, their inconsistency comes back to bite them. 3 games without a win now and only 1 goal scored in that time. Need to bounce back and get a win here, otherwise their season could really finish with a whimper.

As for Southend, they are well in the hunt for a top 6 spot, but their away form has taken a hit recently with back to back away defeats to Coventry and Bradford. If they are serious about making the play offs, these are the kind of games they could do with winning.

Reckon this will be a tightly fought contest and I can see it ending in a low scoring draw.

Form:
Port Vale: WLWDDL
Southend: WWWLLW

Recent meetings:
21 Aug 2010 Southend United 1-3 Port Vale League Two
09 Apr 2011 Port Vale 1-1 Southend United League Two
27 Aug 2011 Port Vale 2-3 Southend United League Two
07 Jan 2012 Southend United 3-0 Port Vale League Two
10 Nov 2012 Southend United 1-1 Port Vale League Two
09 Mar 2013 Port Vale 1-2 Southend United League Two
10 Oct 2015 Southend United 1-0 Port Vale League One

Going to be bloody freezing so we could do with some goals to celebrate to warm us up, not holding my breath though.

Home form is great with one loss all season so can fall back on that usually. Southend had some mixed results so probably a draw. Changed the formation to try and counter their set up back to the trusted formation of the bludgeoning of the likes of Wigan and Sheff United at home.

Hope for a win probably a disappointing draw though.

Wow didn't expect that! Clinical performance and shows how much we've missed Occys delivery in recent weeks.

Southend have been major hoofball and so far we've coped with the aerial balls well. We are awful at set peices scoring wise but these are terrible defending them!

Wow. strong first half. Cov and millwall fans raising a glass to boslum...

Page has countered the diamond they use by dropping Dodds back and they've left the full backs very exposed.

Long way to go yet hope we don't sit back and go in for the kill as knowing us we'd balls it up!

Absolute c***. Can't wait for us to beat Crewe and Chestefield to give me belief of play offs again to then get absolutely fucked by Barnsley. Fuck off Southend

Inniss fit next week!

Lol @ Phil Brown waffling on about being a tactical genius then plays narrow on a huge pitch with our midfield!

Delighted with that tonight and if we can beat the next two struggling opponents then who knows.

13 unbeaten at home now I believe the club record is 16 so would like to do that!

It's why Occy should be first in the team most weeks! Been crying out for a good delivery for weeks and he scores one and assists two (we hardly score any set pieces and get two in one game!)

Thought we did well, Southend were sly and physical, a lot of stray elbows and poor tackles but thought we stood up to it well. After being booted all game it was ironic Kennedys last act of the night was to kick Coker in the head trying a flick!

Thought Doddsy did superbly as well tonight... What we'd do for a consistent Louis Dodds!

Thought the Vale were superb last night. Well deserved win even though we nearly buggered it up in injury time. Really shows how poor this league is , Southend beat Burton who are are top and Southend were were rally poor lat night against us.

Crazy how inconsistent the league is, we were dreadful and didn't look like scoring the last two games but battered Coventry (only a world class performance from the keeper saved them) and were superb last night. Hard to judge what Vale or opponent is going to turn up on any given day this season.

Just wish Mcgivern world get lost, he's awful, loses the ball most of the time and gave the peno away.

Hopefully Inniss be back in sooner rather than later. Ryan was doing well until Wigan but seems to have gone back to last seasons McGivern!

I can't stand him, he heads the ball back to the opposition, pull players down because of his lack of pace. Total liability. I bet Innis stays on the bench even when fit. I don't really slate Vale players but Ryan riles me up.

Odd to think he could be the one Vale player in the Euros this summer!

One of the worst footballers I've watched play for us in my lifetime. Stealing a living as a professional footballer.

Problem is m8 is Vale can't break down teams who park the bus, teams that come to play like Coventry did we do well.

A consistent Louis Dodds would not be playing in League 1.

We all know by now what the deal with Doddsy is. We have to enjoy and appreciate performances like last night and support him when he's having a bad 'un. Although he has proven once again when he is given a free reign behind the centre forward he tends to give his best performances. Been shockingly misused over the years in truth.
