How are the ex-Bury players doing for Vale, Lainton, Pope and Kay?

Kay and Pope are terrible, not sure if Vale fans have realised this yet.

Lainton is injured, Pope hasn't done much yet but been isolated and Kay has in the main been decent.

Lainton injured is a shame, he's a good keeper who was sadly released from Bury due to injuries.. seems like it was a good decision. How long is he out for?

Couple of months, kicked up a quad injury in pre season, played first game and did it again first half at Leeds, Hornby his understudy is a kid really hasn't had many FL apps and well didn't exactly cover himself in glory during our mad 22 minute implosion yesterday getting beat far too easily for the second goal (positioning was poor). Might have to dip into the loan market for a keeper.

Kay has been one of our best players so far.

Blakeman and Williams reckoned on the radio that keeper could do nothing about any goal?

Positioning was poor for the second goal in my opinion. Couldn't do much about the third. Never have dealt with Akinfenwa ever from when he was at Gillingham, Northampton etc.

Foul for the first but for the third he's unmarked from a second phase corner which is diabolical. Kay dealt with him well for the last hour but by that point the damage was done.

If we can going to concede goals from long punted free kicks from the oppositions own half though we will be in for a long season.

On a side note Ainsworth has the class to go with his legend status at the club. Still our biggest purchase and biggest sale and still loves the club and made a point of going over to our supporters who once adored him as a player.

Smurf dropped a bollock not trying to get him last season when Bruno went.

Lainton out injured, Kay looks okay to be fair. Pope dreadful, when you beat us 4-1 last year i said i wouldn't have Pope back if he was free and you drove him here, problem Vale fans have is he supports us and scored 37 goals in 2012/13..5 years ago for christs sake, he is 32 now and had it.
As for the game, if you mention Wycombe one of the first thoughts in your head is Akinfenwa, so Vale clearly did no homework whatsoever and it took the guy 90 seconds to notch.
A truly abysmal performance but credit to a decent looking Wycombe team who easily beat us, only strange thing why was the Wycombe keeper timewasting from about the 5th minute and finally got booked in about the 50th ? He was only wasting their time as they could and should of won by more. 3-2 flattered us and we didn't deserve any consolation goals.
Luckily Crawley are abysmal so probably only leaves one relegation spot :conf:
Also the guy with pony tail ran the show for them, very good player

The guy with the ponytail is Sam Saunders who we signed from Brentford at the end of last season, his pass to set up Cowan-Hall for the 2nd goal was superb.

In terms of our keeper I have just seen a clip of Wycombe's first goal from behind the net that Doha who posts on here shared on OVF. What the hell is he doing! He is stood to his right of the goal for a free kick in Wycombe's own half so when the Beast get the header in all he has to do is put it the far side. If his positioning is as bad for the second as it looked then we need cover until Lainton is back as he isn't filling me with confidence at all.

Saunders has been around for years, recall our last relegation when he was highly rated for Dagenham (thought he was a winger) but that's what we know we are crying out for an attacking box to box engine of a midfielder. Pugh and Tonge are ancient although we missed Tongey on Saturday and ADF went missing. Pugh is out for months it seems so hopefully that speeds up our recruitment in this area as seems Eagles wont be coming back now.

If Wilson isn't fit as appears after his Hammy last year what was the thought process in sending Yates on loan? Can Mad Gav play right back if needed?

Only just got round to posting on this. What an absolute shambles of a performance. It's early season, so I'll give the manager the benefit of the doubt, but the first half performance was worrying. Wycombe didn't even have to try!

I said we'd never handled akinfenwa before and within two minutes he'd beaten us in the air to score. Surely when a team has a free kick with akinfenwa in the team, you know where the ball is heading? Appalling preparation.

We look like what we are, a collective of unfit, injury prone or over the hill players, trying to compete with established teams that have made a tweak or two in the summer. Why can we never seem to string two results together? Is it too much to ask?

Early season optimism has been dampened and I'm honestly concerned at the moment about which way our season is going to go.
