So United just beat San Jose Earthquakes 3-1. Mata and Depay netted in the first half, Pereira scoring a nice header off a Jesse Lingard cross after the break.

Lined up 4-4-1-1 in both halves:

rooney
depay
young carrick schneiderlin mata
shaw blind jones darmian

wilson
pereira
januzaj bastien herrera lingard
blackett evans smalling mcknair

I don't get why LVG is playing a natural winger at #10 and a natural #10 on the flanks. Even though Depay showed a great predatory instinct when taking his goal, his movements looked off at times and didn't get to utilise his pace & dribbling in positions you'd want. And wagwan for Blind at CB though.

Bastien's passing range was on show here :bg1: Anchored the midfield beautifully with Herrera pushing on, gave the youngsters stability. Didn't see as much of Januzaj and Wilson as I'd like, the latter having to be a passenger most of the time due to a lack of service. Pereira though is gonna be absolute class!

If you're gonna insist on calling a new signing by his first name as if he's your mate, at least get the spelling right.

Not sure if you were being sarcastic, but Van Gaal disagrees: "The second half we played very badly, a lot of ball losses and the only highlight was the goal from Andreas Pereira. I think we don’t give many chances away, but we give possibilities away, it was a threat always, and that was not necessary. Our positions in midfield were not as good as in the first-half. He [Schweinsteiger] was also bad. Players can play bad, especially when they only have six days training in your legs and you have to play 45 minutes. Everyone can think it is easy to step in, but it’s not. The first match he played very well and now he played badly, but that is also a process when you only have one week of training." Just beat Feyenoord 3-0. Pelle, Yoshida and Juanmi with the goals.

50,000 Feyenoord fans there. Great support.

I can't say whether LVG saw something that I didn't or it was a 'no player is exempt from criticism' kinda thing, but he actually kept things tidy and always gave our iffy backline an option. There was a lot of passing it backwards and sidewards in the second half, losing possession an awful lot too so considering the circumstances, I didn't think he did "badly" as LVG put it. Probably had 1 or 2 passes that didn't reach their intended target, but that's about it.

I may have been kind describing the whole thing as beautiful though, cos generally the overall performance was frustrating. That slow overly-methodical build up :ffs:. Guess I was just gassed to see a world class CM among our ranks again :bg1:

Schweinsteiger isn't world class any longer. He'd still be at Bayern if that was true. He's a good player who will have some tidy games, but will also struggle with fitness and have a few shockers. It's been his M.O. the last two seasons. He's historically been overwhelmed in games with a high press from opposing midfields. I've watched every Bayern vs BVB match of the last decade sans 1 or 2 - he had one noticeably good game in the Klopp era among 2-3 dreadful performances. To his credit, he has shined in some big matches, like the WC final. Schneiderlin is closer to world class at this point.

Dude get fucked that picture is horrible. At least put a spoiler alert on it or something, most people won't want to see that.

Well for all the talk of Delph's injury, no one has mentioned this lovely strike from Benzema.

Arsenal could do with a player like that upfront

Benzema: "Step aside Ronaldo, I got this".
Ronaldo: "Ok boss, I'm calling you boss because I have more respect for you than our shitty manager".
Benzema: "Fair point Ronnie mate, nice goal I just scored wasn't it?"
Ronaldo: "Decent one that, mate".

Giroud: "How did he do that?"

I reckon he's talking about Ronaldo's hair.
