Currently 4-1 down to Gateshead with pretty much our first team.

That's enough football for me today.

will be interesting to see that result when i get in from watching us play Bolton - because we drew 1-1 away at Birmingham on Tuesday
I don’t mean to sound like a twat here but why would the Northampton v Birmingham result be interesting to you?

Flyde 0 v 1 Rochdale.
Jake Beesley with his 4th in pre-season. Trialists at GK, RB and CB, so a clean sheet won't do their chances of a contract offer any harm.

Barrow 0-1 Bolton - doesn't really represent the match, and only one manager will be happy with the performance. Can't remember them having more than a couple of attacks.
Pleased with our new signings and definitely missed Zanzala and Quigley, so it's obvious what the priority is.

A very good workout and I think we'll be in good shape come the start of the season.

Impressive performance and result today from us against a strong Blackburn side. Our attacking options are night and day compared to this time last year and we actually look dangerous every time we go forward.

In all fairness you played a much under strength team today and I'm guessing Evatt will be pleased as you rightly point out, only a pre-season game but we're already looking good with a lot of strength in depth.

It's pre season and it doesn't really mean a lot, but we've now lost back to back to Non League North teams. if anything it might highlight we need to spend some money and get bodies in.

Did not go so i cannot comment but it was a miss mash of experiments
We are unbeaten pre season but we have only turned up against Preston.............Think Evatt will play his starting 11 in our last match of the season v Blackburn

Lost 1-0 to Hull, didn't actually play too bad by our standards.

Carlisle 0 - 1 Blackpool

Having won our previous 5 friendlies with an aggregate score of 21-0 we played our first proper team today. Blackpool I imagine will be up in the L1 promotion chase agin and put a strong team out first half. Fans hoping this might mean more of a challenge though will be dissapointed as Blackpool were just too strong, and chasing shadows might not be the right kind of test for us, as it was one way traffic until midway through the second half when Blackpool replaced most of their players for ones with shirt numbers higher than their ages... and Richard Keogh.

As well as simply them being much better than us on paper, we seemed to have some injury issues as our two oldest players Alessandra and McDonald were missing from the squad. It didn't help either that Feeney went off injured midway through the first half and Armer had to switch to centre back with first Dickenson, then Riley deputising at left back and some of our less experienced players, such as Whelan and Bell struggled while Armer was beaten to a long ball that the Blackpool player slotted home to give them a lead. It could have been a much higher score too as Blackpool had one chalked off for offside while also wasting a couple of good chances. I stood near to the goal we were attacking and barely saw the ball, and neither did Zach Clough. Blackpool had a very handy looking sweeper-keeper who snuffed out most of our tentative attacks.

Things improved once Blackpool's youngers (and Richard Keogh) took over and Toure and Mampala linked up well to cause them some troubles. We had a couple of chances near the end to level the scores, Toure bringing out a good save from sweeper-keeper (think they kept the same keeper on the whole game) while Dickenson spooned our best chance (forgivable seeing as he was in his third position of the game by that point). Too many of our players though had little to do, and the best performances from us came from Toure and Mampala (Toure loves playing in the summer) while Josh Dixon came on near the end and had a really impressive cameo.

But that is that as far as friendlies against League teams goes, Blackpool were the only one in our summer schedule. It's back to playing tinpotters now with our remaining opponents being Brother Halifax and Lancaster.

I don't mean to sound like a twat here but if you can't work out why Barrow fans would be interested in seeing another L2 team playing a team they've played themselves this summer then you must be losing your Football League fan sharpness already.

We play Hull at home today.

They're also playing Mansfield so they're splitting their squad up.
Apparently Stags beat Hull’s first team 2-1 at the KCom whereas Hull reserves won 1 -0 at Scunthorpe

We looked in decent shape against Bolton albeit a bit toothless in attack, granted Zanzala was missing. I didn't think Bolton were great by any stretch and you could say similar about them, their goal coming from our mistake.

Bully for them then. I don't pay much attention to the leagues we don't compete in, are Yeovil still in the Championship?
But at least it makes it more comforting that we were given the run around by a championship side rather than a top L1 side.

The teams were split but the side that played Mansfield was more experienced, we played a few of them newer signings.

Well no that doesn’t make any real sense.
We played Mansfield last week, if another National League team played them this week then I would have no interest whatsoever in what their result was.
My question was a valid one but you have chosen to reply to me by being an arse about it for some reason.

We beat Warrington 1-0, Mani Dieseruvwe scoring from the penalty spot after MacManaman was tripped. A decent performance, but it is clear we are still lacking a centre forward, something that will hopefully be addressed in the next few days.

Did you go to the match then?

Who was missing, except for Santos then? Evatt will have been livid with his team's lack of effort - certainly didn't tolerate it when he was our manager.

I prefaced my comment with 'I don't mean to sound like a twat here' surely that's the get-out if someone takes umbrance to your comment.

I put that at the start of the post because I meant it as a genuine question as to why he’s so interested in other teams friendlies and didn’t want to put something along the lines of ‘why do you care what Northampton’s result is’ as I thought it would sound a bit shitty.
Anyway I guess you’re having a bad day as you’re not usually like this so I’ll just leave it there.

I just thought I was being snarky, not gonna pass up a chance of that... but I'm not sure what you were saying though, it sounded like you genuinely didn't get the Barrow/Birmingham/Northampton connection and thought Barrow fans were just curious about a friendly match between two totally random teams.

Tbf Grimsby fans don’t usually read too much into pre season results…
