Pre season friendlies

We're away to Dundee tomorrow, 5pm kick off. £5 to watch on a stream, I'll be at work so can't watch.

Think we may have a few trialists, but Kenny Jackett has already said that we'll be fielding 5/6 of our players from the youth team to make up the numbers.

We're still by my count around 6 players short of having a full squad.

Lost 3-0 to Dundee and only started 6 players who are likely to be regular starters next season.

After 60mins 8 youth team players/young pros came on. We had no trialists with Jackett preferring to take youngsters and give them a run out.

We need 6-8 players asap!

First one tonight. Lost 2-1 to Weston.
We played the kids first half, no first team starts between them. Looked a bit rusty the first half an hour and went 2 down.
Second half it was more like the first team, though still without the more experienced new signings. Won that half 1 nil with Archie Collins scoring.

At the end of the day it's just a run out so not much learnt.

We have a lot more to go but I have the suspicion that we wont see our likely first team line up until the last friendly, which is behind closed doors but on YouTube.

Good to have a pint and once in the ground there weren't many wearing masks. It felt like normality returning

Different teams in each half. Goals by Trialist and 2 from Tom Nichols.

I was working so didn't get to go although I do normally enjoy pre season matches and playing the "Who the he'll is that?" game.

We start our pre-season programme at Melksham on Tuesday evening...not sure of the value of a friendly like that, or what the level of opposition, but we seem to be moving away from games against more local rivals...no more Shortwood, Brimscombe and Thrupp or Slimbridge.

Got another game tomorrow at Newcastle Town so daresay will probably be a mixture of some of the first team squad and youth team. May get a look at Johnson and Covolan for the first time in one of these games.

Aye probably done to let Stafford have a look at a couple of the academy lads if they want to loan any of them.

One of them is some lad called Solanke from WBA. No idea on the other.

We lost 2 nil to stafford rangers but its was mainly our youth team. Our youth team were garbage last year finished bottom of there division and were conceding goals for fun so no surprise to me we lost was men against boys. First team players to play were stone in goal who will be back up keeper, garrity and Proctor who will be subs. Only Martin who featured tonight I think is the only one who would start regularly for us.

Johnson like the rest of our players and staff will of been self isolating after a Covid outbreak during our promotion celebrations, our lot are only just coming back now.

Yes he's pretty good. Got injured last season and didnt get back in the team, we loaned him to Portsmouth bizarrely as he didnt play there either.
I thought that we could have kept him on, and now we dont have any experienced keepers it will be interesting to see if we get anyone better.

Best goal off the game was Jamie Hodgson for HoB who lobbed sub keeper Lillis from the half way line.
