Beat a Northern Premier League (whatever step that is) Billingham Synthonia 6-0, nice afternoon in the sunshine, plenty of the ball, raised some funds for a local non league side, had a trialist playing attacking midfield area, no clue who it was.

Reliably informed, the trialist was Ben Tollitt?

We beat Cleethorpes 2-0 today. McAtee and Orsi on the scoresheet. Be afraid.

As Cas said lost 2-0 Derby, pretty typical pre season affair left a bit early to beat any traffic.

Drew 0-0 at Barnsley this afternoon. A few trialists knocking about still. Kornell Mcdonald seems to have impressed so might get a deal.

Visited Cantilever park today where Tranmere ran out 1-0 winners over Warrington Town. Quite an entertaining 1st half (for a friendly) with Warrington missing a sitter and Tranmere hitting the woodwork twice. Kieron Morris came off 2nd best in a full blooded challenge and looks have picked up a nasty injury.

We’re racking up the injuries in these pre-season games; Jolley requiring knee surgery, Davies and Burton both missing today. Have to hope Morris’ isn’t too bad. What did you make of the new recruits?

Any idea how he played? Ex Rover was at Fylde last season and one of their better players, bit of a surprise he didn’t get offered a new deal there.

Difficult to say as the opposition were just an amateur side, could probably pull together 11 lads on here and give them a game, played the full 90, saw plenty of the ball, few shots, see if he's still here for the home game v Lincoln on Saturday, get a better idea then.

Bristow was my pick of the bunch, Byrne and Hockenhull steady, McAlear was quiet.

Drew 3-3 with QPR today.

First sixty minutes we were playing Kewell ball (or horseshoe football) and it was a question of how many QPR would score. Got to 0-3 and I'm thinking we are odds on for relegation. We were honestly that bad.

Trelford subbed off. Nadersan on. Lots of forgotten men appear with some trialists. Start playing in the QPR half and we suddenly look dangerous. Before you know it it's 3-3. Our goals from Tilley, Nichols (pen, it was) and Adebowale.

I might have found my hate figure for the season. Travis Johnson had my blood boiling and it was only a friendly. No matter where he was on the pitch, no matter which situation he found himself he only passed the ball backwards and to the centre half on his side. Acres of space to run in...pass the ball back. Throw in...pass the ball back. His centre half surrounded by opposition players...pass the ball back. I was actually laughing at him at one point.

Stay well clear he’s horrendous, Ben Richards Everton as hellogregory says. A great size for a centre half, that’s all the positives he has, he’s reckless, dives in constantly, I think he was hauled off after half in hour in his last game for us - there’s a reason he dropped into non league.

Sutton came from behind again this time to beat Havant & Waterlooville 2-1 with goals from Kwarme Thomas and Harry Beautyman. That’s 2 wins and 4 different goal scorers in 2 PSFs

Abraham is hopeless, very athletic but just no football instinct. Flynn saddled us with him last season, discarded him very early, Fulham didn't want him back and I don't think Rowberry ever used him.

More of a training exercise but we played two one-hour "matches" against Hungerford from NLS, won both 3-0 using different teams. We don't seem to be using any triallists for now at least.

Aneurin Livermore who trialled for Flynn yesterday looked the best Newport youth prospect for years but plummeted out of favour early last season.

The Trialists have been identified as five young lads:

Matthew Hudson (GK ex Preston)
Opi Edwards (RWB ex Forest Green)
Luke Dreher (MF ex Palace)
Jamie Soule (MF/FW ex WBA)
Tyrese Sinclair (MF/FW ex Mansfield)

and one not quite so young lad:

Leon Clarke (F, ex quite a big percentage of the FL!)

We have arranged a game at and v Heart of Midlothian on 16th July.

I've been singing Sunshine on Leith (very badly) ever since I heard...I might get punched by the other half soon.

Casey

You would get punched by more than your other half if you sang that at Tynecastle.

Its a Hibs song.
