It seems that a small band of people are struggling with Adverts on the site, making things slow and sluggish. A few people have mentioned it's on certain types of device - working fine on mobile and then crap on certain browsers/desktops. Just to clarify

There should be 2 ads on the forum HOMEPAGE;
- 1 at the top in the header
- 1 down the side

There are a couple of other discrete and small ads in parts of the site such as the Prediction League and blow, which are well out of the way.

If anyone has a problem or is struggling and getting wrong/more ads at the moment could you do the following please.

1) Explain the problem you get and on which device/scenario
2) Take a screenshot and upload it to this thread.

It may be that there have been some code cross-overs that have caused a little malfunction in a certain set of circumstances.

Thanks
Admin.

Any chance you can set it up so when you click an advert it takes you to their site in a new tab?

Okay I've started this thread for TB.

We might need to check the settings for Site Supporters getting ads - it will probably be the configuration of the groups.

What about these adverts across the top of the page?

and an Amazon ad just below.

I was teasing you a bit yesterday but I'm really not that bothered because they're fairly small and I can ignore them easily enough. I wouldn't ever use any of those companies, but nobody's making me click the links. I do occasionally click them by accident but that is because I am an idiot.

I was teasing you a bit yesterday but I'm really not that bothered because they're fairly small and I can ignore them easily enough. I wouldn't ever use any of those companies, but nobody's making me click the links. I do occasionally click them by accident but that is because I am an idiot.

I wouldn't call them Advertisements as such - they are built into a second nav bar as text links so people can directly click in if they please - we don't earn anything from them as such for impressions or people clicking in - they get placed there by people who want to sign up and promote a brand/company/product and pay upfront for them.

Anyone/everyone get those as they don't really stand out as adverts, especially not on the mobile format.

But yeah no worries - so long as we aren't alienating people or ruining the forum experience, then we are happy.

Issues with ads should now be resolved. We'll be making a few changes in the coming days to the display of ads to guests/members but they will not be as obtrusive as they have been (wrongly) in the last two weeks

I'm getting them again which is slowing the forum down. This screenshot was taken on my computer. As you can see, I'm definitely logged in.

History, cookies and cache cleared on my phone. No change.

Cache and all data cleared on my tablet. No change.

Both devices restarted.

Computer has adblock.

Meant to reply to this the other day but forgot...

I'm not a supporter (sorry, I'm rubbish hahahaha) so obviously expect to be seeing ads but the main header one has gone back to being MASSIVE and obtrusive again (I would guess at roughly the same kind of time that Meadow flagged this)...

Actually they're small again atm so :dk:

Not for me. The Santander one in particular is massive. Not good on a phone or tablet.

Incidentally, These ads are appearing in various sections, not just on the front page.

Best policy would be to take screenshots and post them here mate, so that they can see what it is that the problem is.

It's clearly an issue that the ads aren't quite right on the mobile/android device and that section needs sorting. As for the laptop/computer version - they are as they should (and have always been) as far as I can see? Adblocker is your friend if your on a desktop/laptop.

I haven't upgraded to site supporter yet - it's on the things to do list - but on the laptop ABP blocks out all adverts and on the i-pad there's just one quite small (¾ x 5") narrow advert at the top of the home page.

Point taken Saddlerad, but

1. As a site supporter I shouldn't be seeing them at all.
2. Adblock slows down the loading of the page and doesn't help the issue on mobiles/tablets.
3. They're not just on the homepage, they're elsewhere on the forum as well. The image I took further up was from the L2 section.

It isn't an issue with any of my devices - apart from my computer being old and slow - as I've cleared caches etc on all of them, it's to do with ads being overly obtrusive and not disconnected from some (?) site supporter's accounts - it would appear.

I wasn't meaning to come across as arsey about it.

1. Absolutely. It's the permissions/settings not set up properly. Something TB will have to look at.
2. See above. Adblocker and adblocker plus ensure that my pages load at max speed time though? Not sure why there's an issue there.
3. Yes they are, but once 1 is sorted, 2 and 3 will be fine.

Ads are here to stay, as they are currently, on the parts of the forum they are now. They have been like this for me and others on the website since the website went live almost 1 year ago (10 days to go). Fortunately, when the permissions are sorted, no supporter will see ANY ad, so in your case - it's waiting for TB to get the time to sort the permissions out on which user groups do and don't see ads - as after that, the rest is really irrelevant.

Sorry that's its taken a while to do so.

I've removed them for now until we can sort them appearing tastefully on all devices. Sorry about that, folks!

Thank you.

I'm aware that the forum relies on the income from ads so I hope something is sorted out to everyone's satisfaction.

Well the site is pretty much unusable for me on mobile at the moment as i get a huge massive Asda advert greying out the site and linking me to their grocery department.

^^^^ Yeah some big fucking chicken pops up and you're fucked. Went back in my browser, went to click a 1ff link and was then redirected to an Asda page.
Went back again and was fine but its a bit of a c***.
