Derby can't be a big money club anymore, they're barely complying with FFP and had to sell of their two best players in the summer. Wouldn't mind getting rid of Boro as Villa are in the same boat as Derby.

We're quite nicely positioned financially but I don't think it'll be a big summer for us. We'll get about £30m for Flint, Bryan and Reid but Vyner will probably step in at centre half, Kelly will step in at left back and I'd like Taylor to do Reid's role next season as he's never really had a proper chance here, and he is a goalscorer. Nice situation we find ourselves in at the moment as we're starting to see why we invested so heavily in the academy.

Probably us more than you but for clubs like us its going to take time to be genuine promotion challengers. We will always lose players but you've got to be sensible about it, sell for big money and use it to tie other key players down and add a couple more here and there to keep progressing.

Millwall have got in contention through momentum, organisation and desire but if they don't do it this year then it's likely they won't repeat this season's points tally next season so they will have to be similarly sensible. We did the same under Moyes.

We made the play-offs twice in two years under Billy Davies but we had Craig Brown for two seasons before that building the squad.

Or you can appoint a bunch of goons, watch it completely go to shit and just get relegated again, like we did post-Irvine. Although his over-spending started it all, can't see us doing that again.

I agree with you to some extent but I think there's only so far you can progress season upon season before you get set back. For two examples, you and Brentford have some good young players and particularly the latter always sell them on and look to replace them, there's only so long you can keep buying low and selling high before you get a bad crop. With us we have the financial clout to say no to players like Flint, Bryan etc leaving all of whom we've had multi-million pound bids for, and you did the same with Hugill which was good.

I take your examples and hope it pays off with us, but in the summer if we lose two key players it's a big task to replace them, and it's also a big decision as to whether we stick to our philosophy; I don't know how much you know about Vyner or Kelly but Vyner's been the absolute dogs bollocks at Plymouth if you listen to their fans, and Kelly came in like Earl did for you earlier in the season and didn't look out of place, but it's either that or go and spend £10m on a couple of more experienced pros on big money.

We'll see, I don't really fully trust our process as I don't trust our manager.

We'll have room to manoeuvre again, you either comply or you don't.. this year was the one that had most worried but we've still come through it.
Plenty of big bucks contracts up this summer (Shackell, Bent, Baird) and I'm sure Gazza will be pushing the likes of Butterfield, Blackman, Anya etc out too.

We have had a great season. Lost Grayson. Lost Hugil. A season of re building. But its the way we have just chucked the season away. I actually thought we would be the team to do it.

Now 5 games left and our season is effectively over when it should have been going down to the wire. Agree to the massive over reactions but I think it' a very small minority. I think 99% of PNE fans would say it has been a good season, just a very very frustrating end.

The voice of reason.
You've had another great season where in most other people's eyes you have over achieved.
Out of all the teams that have been around the playoffs I would have preferred you to go up, but the reaction from some of your fellow fans wow, a few good seasons and its gone to their heads.
Ok last week or so very disappointing, but the season as a whole another good one of improvement for you, they need to get real instead of going all billy big time.

How are we "going all billy big time" you belm?

I'm chuffed as fuck with our season, but we've been up and around the play offs all season. It's not unreasonable that people thought we could do it.....and it's only natural that folk will feel frustrated that it looks like we'll possibly miss out.

Don't understand the "billy big time" comment at all, but whatever.

Also, I agree with SF that there's been an over-reaction from certain quarters (Joan the old bag, especially) - what a horror she is btw eh. Fuck me.

I'm annoyed as fuck like, because it's been a glorious opportunity but, I'm also extremely happy with our season; and looking forward to seeing what we can do next season, with a talented young squad.

She's a fucking nightmare, can just imagine her with her sherry down Meadow Street club getting on everyone's tits during bingo.

Don't think i've seen any of our fans go 'billy big time' either, certainly not on here.

Yeah, we will be restricted next season. If we can keep the team together, which I think we will, then we will be up there. Don't think Boro will go up this season, but will be fighting automatic next season with pulis having a full season with them. It's shit or bust next season for us, that's assuming we don't go up this season.

Having seen the run ins for Boro and Millwall, blimey one of the big falterers still have a chance if only they could string a few wins together.
City?
United?
PNE?
All eyes on SU tomorrow to blow it open again.

Yep if we can win tommorrow we are well and truly back in it and so are the others chasing. Hardly like Boro are in some unreal form either

Even if we win tonight and Blades win, I’m still refusing to allow myself to have hope again.

I´ll take a draw straight out and leave it down to 4 points from Hull / Forest and then beat yourselves.

shame that Villa have their easiest game of the season on Friday.... can rest half their 1st team and still win 2-0

I still dont see 6 points for Millwall from their last 4, plus there are 2 places up for grabs.

If millwall beat us on Saturday and you draw at boro you will be 5 points behind wall with 3 games left, game over. Derby should hold on although tough games in hand
