Our run started right after losing to you because we realised if such a terrible team like you are riding high in this league then it will not take much work to better ourselves and hey look it's already working!

Just ask any Barnet or Chesterfield fan for example and they'll tell you how great we were against them.
You were great only after Akinde deigned to miss a penalty which would have put us 2-0 up, our keeper decided to rashly rush out and hand your guys an equalising goal and our manager decided to sub off our most effective outfield player which left us exposed at right-back. You won't receive so many favours in every match!

So a win for Accrington while Mansfield and Notts both draw against what should have been 3 points for both.

Accrington looking increasingly likely to go up, with Notts Mansfield and Wycombe all vying for 3rd.

Title to be decided this Saturday, if either team can take 3 points then will go on to win the league

In terms of promotion, a decent night for us with teams below dropping points.

Bit of a shame that Morecambe couldn't do us another favour like they did with Wycombe a week or so back, makes the game on Saturday a very big one! Unfortunately with that win tonight Accrington have really put the pressure on us, which we don't deal well with at all to be honest. Be interesting to see how Jones deals with it, we have had a mental block on games like this for some time.

Even though its 1st vs 2nd late in the season, im not sure its the "title decider" some are suggesting. Looking at Accringtons fixtures they are still to play a lot of the top 7 and we are bound to drop points somewhere too, there will be more twists to it yet.

I think you can add exeter to that list to as they are only 4 points behind us with 3 games in hand

Cough cough.

Some of your fans keep saying not to include you, so I didn't :bg:.

I think it's going to be tight for all concerned, we've dropped 4 points in the last 2 home fans from winning positions.

I think Notts are realistically looking at a 4th or 5th place finish. Our form just hasn't been good enough post December. I think we are capable of getting an automatic, but we will tits it up. We always lose to Mansfield for example. I can't see any other result. We still lack bottle in the biggest games which will ultimately hurt as we essentially have ten cup finals

Mansfield aside I am not so sure. We drew at Luton, beat Wycombe away 4-2, beat Exeter away 3-0 and have drew against Accrington (when we was leading 2-0) as well as beating Swindon at home.

Nolan then lost Yates and had a brain fart with the formation. 2 defeats at home coupled with average form away has seen confidence slip.
We used to be a team that never gave up, that could turn a game around in the last 5 minutes. I am very surprised that we have missed Yates so much.
We seem to do ok in the big games it’s now the mid table games we seem not to be able to handle. It could also be the case that teams have done enough homework on us now.
We didn’t replace Yates sufficiently and never got the striker we needed (Bennet was seemingly destined to get injured at some point)
I think FGR and Mansfield are massive games now after last night.
We over performed before Christmas and we are probably playing at the level we “should” be now, bang average mid table. Let’s hope it’s enough to extend the season a few weeks.

But I don't see us finishing 3rd, either.

We've dropped 4 points at home in the last 2 games for instance. We've got to beat Colchester at home Saturday, simple.

The game against you is anyone's, you do seem to never beat us, but runs come to an end, assume they'll be a big home crowd too? We're well on our way to selling out the 4100 or whatever tickets you've given us

Anyone know a betting site who are taking bets on Luton NOT to secure automatic promotion? I can't find one!

Realistically I think that our automatic chances probably went with Mason Bennett’s hamstring. All season the obvious thing missing has been someone capable of running in behind and taking players on, he seemed to be absolutely perfect. If teams can cope with the physicality of Stead and Ameobi and resist dropping deep against us, we don’t really have the players for a Plan B.

That said, having so many games against our direct rivals is probably a good thing, particularly as they’re mostly at home. We’ll try and drag it down to the trenches and nick some tight games with a bit of magic from Grant or a set piece, which we’re generally pretty good at doing.

Our current form isn't really good enough for automatic; we've not won back-to-back games since September. If we can't change that, it'll be the play-offs for us, but I think we've got it in us to secure that - we win enough at home and should nick enough points away. Plus our GD should hold up if it gets tight, it is considerably better than 3 or 4 teams in there. Big game at FG on Saturday, If we can end our awful away run (won 1 in 13 now I think) it might instil some confidence for our remaining games on the road. Still very much in our hands if we want it though, with Wycombe, Mansfield and Cov at home, and Stanley away. As an aside, our club captain Michael O'Connor is nearing a return after being out all season with an ACL injury. Played 45 mins in a friendly on Monday. No idea if he'll be fit/good enough/back in time to make a difference, mind.

So Accrington now just 1 point behind us.

Fair play to them. Coleman can be a bit of an arsewipe, but I’d hope other Luton fans would join me in saying that I have massive respect for that side. Considering they have no support, no money and being run on a shoestring, to be 1 point behind a team that has spent £1m on transfer fees alone this season is remarkable.

A rare full Meadow lane away end is always good to see, and great funds for the club. No doubt the usual disappointment on the field in the Nottinghamshire derby but at least it’s a very good day off the field for the Chairman.

Thank you

Welcome. Given how much the poor lad seems to be losing at Notts it's nice to be able to help.

The good beers, the good banter and the inevitable avoidance of defeat will entice folk along.

Well the lure of the big city is awfully strong when the folk of Mansfield are concerned.

Will it entice more than will show up at Field Mill this Saturday?

Probably. The quarantee of running water, more modern transport links than horse and cart, and those important 3 points will be too strong to resist. And that its paddys day just adds to the fun

And don’t forget the ‘big one’, that all important 4th stand at the ground. I think the chance to sit down at the side of the pitch and see a proper stand opposite instead of a temporary busstop and some advertising boardings is the cherry on the cake for most Stags fans, and the friends and family that they traditionally bring to their ‘Big Day Out’

To be fair, it is normally at Field Mill that we capitulate in recent years (although I remember several wins there in the 80s and 90s) - usually at ML in the league it's a draw, with three 0-0s in the last four. Be surprised if it's goalless this time though.

The only Notts game I have actually seen at FM or what ever it’s called now was the 4-3 League Cup (I think) when Mildenhall scored from his own goal area.

You beat us 3-2 on August bank hol around 2006 or so. Other than that it's been home wins in the league.

I've only seen us lose once at meadow lane and ironically that wasn't against county, it was against Wrexham in the league cup.

Yeah, I remember the 3-2, we bizarrely sent Andy White on and he changed the game (!!) when we were losing with about five minutes left.

As bad as our record has been against Stags in recent years, we’ve also been a pretty consistently dreadful team in that time, particularly at home.

Can’t say I remember beyond recent years, but will this be the biggest ever game between Notts and Mansfield? I suppose that you could argue the 0-0 at ML a few weeks before the end of the season when both teams were fighting against relegation had even more at stake.

We will lose on a week Saturday, the smart money is on an away win.

Luckily I’m old enough to remember the 80s and 90s when we basically never lost to Mansfield . Obviously we didn’t play them too often as we always in a higher division

Yup

Remember the 3-1 earlier in the season? County were on unbelievable form and just didn’t show up at the Mill, was bizarre really.

Forget about the past, it’s worthless for the remaining games.

Can you create your own thread to discuss your past meetings?

I thought that in the general match thread when everyone was talking about the conference. It’s build up to a big game next week so does have a point in this thread. However I think the tangent has ran its course now and will be picked up in the match thread.
