"Smyths"

Is it "Smiths" as in WHSmith or "Smyths" as in "Sm-i-thes"

I opt for the former regardless of whether its wrong.

It's pronunciation Murph. Although we 'pronounce' instead of 'pronunce', it is 'pronunciation' as opposed to 'pronounciation', you pro-nonce.

Personally, I would pronounce Smyth differently from Smith. I guess it's down to each individual owner of said name how they choose to pronounce it.

If it's from an archaic document I would say it is Smith.

Depends on how the owner wants it pronounced I guess. I pronounce it Smiths as in the 'i' in fish.

That said you do have pretentious owners who manage to turn a name into something more exotic by pronouncing it with a French accentuation.
I was watching room 101 recently and they were discussing this. Can't remember the name of said establishment but the proprietor insisted on pronouncing it with a French accentuation, even though it was clearly an English name. A bit along the lines of Hyacinth Bucket, but she insisted on it being pronounced 'Bouqet'
