What's going to happen with QPR and the potential football league fine? £58.6M wasn't it?

Pay up or be thrown out of the Football League was the threat. Ultimately, that won't happen if they don't pay up.

I'd say the worst punishment they could get is a 20- odd point deduction, or another relegation, if they don't pay up.

That's what I was getting at Rammy. After all the bluster from the Football League earlier this season, they have to be seen to do something or everyone will have licence to flout the FFP rules. That's how I see it anyway.

A compromise fine and transfer embargo I'd imagine.

I'd expect a transfer embargo and a fine probably amounting to about 10% of the £60mil being touted, in addition to a possible points deduction.

When was the fine issued?

And what's it for?

I can see them in deep financial trouble though - they have some huge earners, and they're going to have to offload many Premier League players on Premier League wages that they have.

Probably this. The benefit to other clubs in the league will no doubt be minimal.

QPR present the absolute ideal chance for the FL to actually show some conviction with the FFP ruling and make an example of a club who couldn't have taken the whole thing any less seriously. But you know they won't.

1. Last season
2. Breaking FFP rules. Quite severely.

Isn't their wage bill top 10 in the country? They've been wasting money for years though but can't see the Football League getting too strict with them, after all QPR are a decent draw for the league and for TV

Surely the FL have to make a stand here or they will look like total arses? They publicly said what the fine was last year and now they have to back it up to have ANY credibility at all? If they don't, we will know that we can all take the piss regarding FFP and that the FA really do run the FL.
That would actually be quite worrying in all seriousness. Using my own club as an example, what's to stop Steve Lansdown (a multi £Billionaire) chucking daft money into the squad ( he won't by the way as he's far too sensible now) and saying 'fook you' to the FL as QPR were allowed to do it?

They need to enforce it or they set a dangerous precedent, however it wouldn't be the first time considering what happened with West Ham and the FA Cup.

I agree with you but this is much bigger isn't it? for me, this shows just how dominant the FA / Prem is. The FL HAVE to save face here or pack it in as they would be cowering to the FA.
It's not like QPR didn't already know the rules but I have every confidence that the FL will bottle it. Shame.

QPR will not be relegated to the Conference - it will create allsorts of turmoil, especially with the AGM only 1 month away. It would probably mean Cheltenham would stay up, as would the last relegated side in every division.

Would Championship fans prefer a 20 point deduction or a £40m fine?

The FL must stand by the rules it's has set for itself snd it's clubs. Isn't this why us and Bournemouth started the 2008 season on minus 17 points and Luton on minus 30 the same year? Or was that only because we were L2 clubs?

It is surely the reason the FL docked us points for a purely administrative error, which by all accounts happened at the Derby end anyway? We won the points with a Derby player in the team, and rules is rules.

So surely the FL have to stand by their own rule book this time if they are to retain credibility as a governing body.

We will see.

20 point deduction and a 40m fine, seeing as they've been trying their best to weasel out of it.

Personally hope the FL/FA absolute fuck them over, rules are there to be adhered too not blatantly ignored, QPR escaped one bullet back in 2001 when they went into admin.

As I said before, the Conference are under no obligation to accept them. Perhaps they could end up in some footballing twilight netherworld?

The players out of contract must be at least £15million in wages.

Sell Austin, Phillips, Caulker for £25million.

Don't think it would be that bad to be honest.

They won't get anywhere near £25m for those three.

With the state they're in, they'd do well to get 15m for those 3.

Reckon they could get around £10m for Austin depending how long he has left on his contract. 17 league goals and 25 years old. Between 5-7.5m for each of Phillips and Caulker so yeah between 20-25m is right I reckon.

They'd be lucky to get anywhere close to 7.5m for Phillips or Caulker IMO.

Apart from the odd wonder goal, has Phillips done that much? I also think they would want to keep him on in the Championship as I doubt his wages would be that high for them - signed him when they were in the Championship?

7.5m for Caulker would mean his value has hardly moved in a year where he has been relegated again, in a poor defence, year older and a club probably more desperate to sell than Cardiff were last year. £4-5m absolutely max.
