No good for fuel, oil or hydraulic lines, it happened to that BA A320 at Heathrow a while ago and led to a fire. There is also the possibility of the cowling striking the horizontal stabiliser.

However, in engineering/aerodynamic terms it is just a cowling/fairing like the bonnet on your car, not a big deal.

It happened somewhere in South America from what I've read, and the pilot performed emergency landing within 10 mins. Guessing someone at maintenance has lost his job
