If Ferdinand is not fit then Cooper. Could also be Robson-Kanu up front instead of Blackman.

I dont like the way Martinez is talking about rotation. Leandro Rodriguez will be 'involved' with the squad for the first time, while apparently Osman and Gibson are going to start. No problem with either player, but neither of them are fit so why bother? We were nearly made to pay for poor attitude and team selection in the last round, so why cant we just for once put a strong side out, get the job done and go home? Instead of arsing about, playing half a side, then having to come from behind or lose?

We very rarely make it beyond this round of this competition, and have lost to quite a few lower league sides in it too. We've lost 5 of our last 6 away ties in this round, including at Leeds and Brentford. Hull in 09 the only one we won.

It's still a trophy. We haven't won one in 20 years and have never won this one so I'm afraid beggars can't be choosy and rest too many players!

And Dazza, I agree. Rest one or two maybe who aren't 100%. Coleman and Oviedos for example were doubtful for Saturday but their replacements did well enough, I'd leave them to make sure they're fully fit rather than rush them back. I expect the keeper will change and I'd consider giving Lennon or Deulofeu a start in place of Kone. That's plenty.

We're not in Europe, it's an early stage of the season, but we're still going to make a load of changes.

Could be the same reasoning as ours, big squad that needs game time somehow.

Eight changes from Saturday, very attacking team too. This could be a very high scoring game (positively and negatively). My main fear is that the last time Cooper and Hector played together I believe we conceded six.. and this time they've got Al-Habsi behind them.

You could be right! I'm fairly happy with our lineup, but we always look awful playing 3 at the back! Another 5-3 maybe?

We were the slightly better team for a majority of the game, just a poor bit of fortune/goalkeeping and we go out, fine margins.

Had we gone full strength we would have won that. Very surprised how well we did though despite making 8 changes.


Quite a lot of talk on Twitter on how Everton had 4500 fans and were silent? Have to say sat here (at home listening in) I couldn't hear them at all, apart from a few minutes after they scored the winner. Wait til the guys who went to the game came back, but would be laughable given how they always seem to put down our support.

On the train coming back from the game and Everton fans were as quiet a set of supporters to the Mad Stad as iv heard, Certainly for the amount that turned up.

As for the game itself we played well and all the players who came in for their first start did well.Ola John probably the best of them.

Just a shame that a good strike from Barkley and a bit of shit keeping from Al Habsi done us.

A lot of positives to take out the game.Looking forward to a difficult game up at Burnley on Saturday.

Also why was Tshibola playing for bottom of League Two Hartlepool last season? Really doesn't look out of place at this kind of level at all.

For all their goading of us, Reading fans were certainly silent once we'd equalised. We get panned for 'singing when we're winning' but they don't?

Who gives a toss about the crowd anyway? We were shit but we were clinical. Keeper defo should have held Deulofeu's (who should have had a pen first half) but Barkleys was a beaut to get us back in it. First half was shambolic, but sorted ourselves out a bit second, Joel made some good saves first half and Barry changed the game for us coming on and making us look a bit more organised.

Anyway, cup football is about getting the job done and we did. Carlisle next please ;-)

Was just a comment.. Trust me Reading fans know a quiet atmosphere as we have plenty of them at home. You yourself rate our home atmosphere as 'poor' on your ground guide, which I doubt many Reading fans would honestly disagree with. But when universally particularly fans at the match, but also fans listening in from home can't hear anything from Everton - other than a few minutes after they scored their winner, then it is a bad atmosphere.

It's been compared to the likes of Grimsby and Wigan taking a couple of hundred at best, and you had 4000 fans to attempt to make noise..

As for the armchair comment; I physically can't make the game, and even then I didn't just state it based on what I heard, but on what hundreds of others who went to the game said. It must have been very bad for that many of our fans to make comment on it.

I never knocked you for not being there, thats your business. The fact you felt you needed to make it your business to comment on the atmosphere thanks to second hand reports is pretty endemic of modern football, especially on the likes of Twitter.

I dont know why people feel the need to comment on the noise made by other fans and start passing judgement when first of all the atmosphere from the majority of fans all over the country is awful these days, and second, like it makes a team somehow superior because they're getting beat but still singing wacky songs. Its a bit like the most pathetic football song in existence, '1-0 and you still dont sing.' Who gives a shit? Id rather be 1-0 up than having megalolzbantz.

Fact is, 4,000 of us or not, we were playing absolute shit away to a lower league side. Maybe you lot will still be singing like its the Cup Final when you're deservedly losing to a lower league side, i dont know. But then as I said, for the snide remarks about us only singing when we were winning, as I pointed out, there wasnt a sound from the Reading fans once they werent winning, I doubt many on Twitter were quite as quick to point that out, as it doesnt fit any lower league superfan agenda.
