No ones going to comment on the government grant to the National League? Really? WTF! :dk:

I think it's because it's not actually come out officially? You just never know where you stand with the National League. BBC report seems legit but lets wait and see what the clubs says.

I’m sure the National league chairman are getting there heads together to come up with a plan to take most of the money and shaft the teams in the North and south divisions as we speak.

Obviously the teams with the highest costs should get the most money, no?

Not if you have got the highest costs by spending money you haven’t actually got by this I refer to teams with small fan bases who have massive overpaid squads.

But it's being worked out on lost matchday revenue, so the above is irrelevant, no-one is trying to stitch the regional league up, Notts County need more money to support them than Chester do.

what has got under my skin is that some clubs have spent massively in the run up to this season even though this virus was always going to bite us in the arse.

Obviously it shouldn’t be tied to wage bills or anything like that, but lost matchday revenue so average crowds last season or something (taking into account an adjustment for clubs who went up or down so would expect a natural change there).

Has to be based on 'expected lost matchday revenue' rather than cost base. The club's argument has been that the government has stopped fans coming in so a grant is needed to cover that hole - if government funding is forthcoming then it has to go to clubs in a ratio that reflects that lost income. Personally last year's attendance has to be the starting point with a bit of wriggle room around that, maybe the promoted / relegated clubs and Gloucester whose circumstances are radically different from last season

Quite. But already clearly we've got tinpotters trying to make a quick buck on it and whinging.

So long as we get what we were projected to as an average attendance I'm sure everyone will be satisfied. Opening day attendances are always higher for everyone and if a team gets off to a good start then those punters come back again for another couple of games etc....but we won't get into that.

I don't suppose they'll make it public where the money goes? Since it's taxpayer money 'n all. I'd hate to see the boards that sat with their thumbs up their arses all summer, and called for the season not to start, end up getting the most rewarded

We raised 130K at the start of this with a boost the budget project from the fans but we have only dipped into this yesterday to sign a player on a short term contract, I think it’s been very wise of the board to do this to safeguard the club if things go tits up, so if we sign anymore players it will come out of the fund not the grant.

I think average crowds must be a baseline for how this money is doled out.

You're right, the compensation is set against lost income. A chairman dipping into his pocket isn't going to be compensated.

We had our best average attendance since we were in the Football League last season, if they're using that as a benchmark, we'll take it. :ds:

Hope so. Chickens coming home to roost comes to mind.
